The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

My amd 2500 and fx5600 worked just fine for FLY2. But more speed is addictive, so I went out and purchased a 6600gt which is presumably the the standard in speed vs price. Immediately, after I purchased it, both FLY2 and Fs9 crashed the computer. So, naturally, I looked at the various forums for help. "you need a more powerful power supply", they would say. So I went from my 400w to a 550w supply. NOthing. The sims locked up. "You need more cooling", they would say. So, I took out the heat sink, lapped it and added better heatsink compound. NOthing. "You have conflicting drivers", they would say. So, I played with , who knows, hours and hours of changing everyconceivable…

Well Fly!2 friends, its been a very long time since I last posted to this forum. I've been extraodinarily busy in my job, and whenever I have free time, I've taken to the real sky's. And after about 20 hours dual, with some significant lost time this winter due to the horrible weather in New York, I finally crossed a major milestone today.I am proud and very excited to share with everyone my first SOLO photos. I did three takeoffs and landings solo at KDXR (Danbury, CT) in N3024Z, a Piper Warrior PA-28-161 (very similar to the one modeled by ROTW). After two touch-and-go's together, Rich pulled out my logbook and signed the endorsements. He told me to taxi back, explained…

Hi!For those interested,I just uploaded two helicopter videos to Hovercontrol.com.They have been on my harddrive for some time, and it was time to share them, even if I'm not a good movie director. One large showing the state of the S61 at that time, and a smaller showing the Super Puma panel in an autorotation situation. You'll find them under various helicopter videos.Thanks.Janhttp://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/dfdg/bannerjh.jpg

Hi there all,The Dauphin is in the avsim library ...We postponed this release for a long time, hoping to complete a decent manual for the autopilot system ... unfortunally, due to our present commitments and new developments, it turns to be quite difficult to prepare one for a while.I prepared a sort of quick instruction anyway, but if you want to know what's actually going on, I strongly recommand to find a real manual and read all the details in there. Sorry !Then, it turns out that the autopilot is fully functional and has been deeply tested, but its usage isn't that obvious for non used people. Sorry again. One of the frequent problems one can experiment is that some c…

I hadn't planned on making this announcement coincidentally with the AVSIM conference, but it's certainly as good a time as any...while fans of the "other sim" are partying in San Diego, I'd like to let the Fly! community know that there is at least a potential future path for further development on our favourite sim platform. Fly! Legacy is a new, open-source flight sim platform designed from the outset for complete compatibility with Fly! II aircraft, scenery, and other add-ons. Whether we are ultimately able to achieve 100% compatibility on everything remains to be seen, but at least that is the design goal, and so far, so good. The project is now hosted on SourceForg…

Hi Flyers,I am considering to try out Fly! II on Mac since I am looking for a flightsim not too hungry for Vram and ghz.Important is to me how good ATC is implemented in Fly! II to use it also as an ATC-Training before going on Vatsim with maybe X-Plane or in those times when there is no much coverage on the networks.X-Plane is lacking of good ATC-implementaion.Flight Unlimited is not for Apple. So, is Fly! II a good deal? Thanks

I remember some changes where Terrascene downloads the files it needs. I can't seem to find that thread. I am having issues downloading files from wingswithwires.com. Anyone know if this server is outdated and should I be using another? Thanks for the help as always!

Hi all and Chris,I'm not used to CVS protocols and I'm in trouble with the script to be used with the Turtoise CVS program (sf advise).I copied and pasted the anonymous protocol d:pserver:[email protected]:/ cvsroot/flylegacy login and also this one with "source" as modulenamed:pserver:[email protected]:/ cvsroot/flylegacy co -P modulenamebut couldn't grab anything (while the turtoise CVS tree is read and downloaded ...)Any hint ?I then downloaded all the files in the CVS browser by hand ... but couldn't just get the /flylegacy/source/src/Terrain/TerrainTexture.cpp rev=1.1.1.1The download seems to wait and wait and wait ...I'm preparing the framewo…

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!Peter Wilding started a thread in the MSFS forum about interest in a possible new comercial shell. What is he using as a Benchmark? FLY II! Some of us might be interested, and there might be oportunities for colaboration. Since this is not directly related to the great news from our friend Chris, I posted it in a separate thread. The thread is called "new flight simulator".Best Regards, Donny:-wave

I have had this problem for a while. If I slew/fly south of Norfolk, VA I get a CTD. It seems to be a large area all the way south to around Nags Head/First Flight. The gtfo.txt file says stream currupt - can't process next tag line, no such file. I have done the normal delete the sit and history files with no luck. I have used TerraScene on this area. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for the help!!

and while getting frustrated with the rather "narrow" selection of flight simulator addon's, I began to wonder if anyone had ever mentioned to PC Pilot that there are other GA sims besides FS9? Fly!II pops in mind as does the work being done on MicroFlight and even Flight Unlimited 3. Did PC Pilot ever do anything with Fly!II? I'd think that with all the great stuff ROTW has put out in the last couple of years that you could easily fill a couple of pages with Fly!II stuff.I guess I'm just a little tired of all the heavy iron reviews. The combat stuff is fine I guess as I used to be a die hard combat simmer, but they really have just scrathed the surface with that stuf…

Greetings all!I know it has been quite a bit of time since last posting, and I apologize. With strong thanks for a lot of hard work, ROTW member Laurent has spent many hours working to solve Seawind's water landing and land landing without damage to gear, sinking, etc. - problems we have had in the past. I am very pleased to announce that Laurent has indeed solved our problem - although it requires the use of dll files. Unfortunately, this means MAC users will be unable to take advantage of a full Seawind model. :-( I will however, include a version for MAC users to still enjoy! So hopefully within the next few weeks we will be posting a Beta version for you to try.Steve …
