The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

After reading the posts here about USGS data no longer free, I went to look for my self, and I found this site. Not sure if this data is still in the format Terrascene needs, but the USGS still provides data for free. It appears though they are using a new interface (Graphical) to get it, here is the link.http://seamless.usgs.gov/website/Seamless/

Flying out of Providence, RI, weather is picked up correctly.A few minutes later, weather appears as Kzab, which has totally different weather conditions. In fact, it provides clear weather conditions. In the next round, Kbos is picked up , thus providing correct weather again.I am puzzled, since you say that FLY2, in the absence of a weather station, will retain the last one.All of this takes place in a range of less than 50 miles.tony

Your New Jersey airport series are a delight for me. Many years ago I had an ercoupe stationed in Rhode Island. I remember one day,on Christmas, dropping my wife on Long Island McArthur, and continuing on to Princeton airport, where an old friend of mine lived. The Ercoupe had no radio to speak of, so dead reckoning was the way to fly. The problem when flying west was the low sun and the smog. I remember flying and hoping that at the right moment, when looking down, I could see the airport. Sure enough, I saw the runway and quickly set up for landing.Princeton Airport was a small field with grass all around the runway.Upon touchdown, I noticed that my brakes were not doi…

After a seven month hiatus from FlyII I just got everything installed and running on my new computer. The OS on my old computer (WinXP SP2) got ahold of something awful seven months ago and while I did save basically all my data I just never managed to get FlyII working again. My new computer is an Athlon 64 4000 with an ATI x800 256 meg card, it will run FlyII without a hitch. Thanks for keeping FlyII and the forum alive. Now to get back to working on those sectional charts I was going to do. I'll have to check and see if anyone did Hawaii yet.And BTW the ROTW Socata TBM 700 is still the best simulation available. I think ROTW's Seneca is also superior to the MSFS …

Hi All,Recently purchased a CH Throttle Quadrant to go with my Yoke and Pedals.Tried to create maps using the CH Control Manager for the Grumman and the DC3.All worked well to start with but now the mixture control lever on my Yoke won't work with the Grumman. The axes are set and all work when tested in the sim.Have sent an e-mail to CH Products but thought I'd ask here in case anyone has a solution other than re-installing the Grumman.:-beerchug

Hi all,I saw the discussion about those birds. Experimented a lot with BirdFlocks myself, saw them now and then, but it was hard to take a pic still.Recently I got my site up and running for good, with a new, *cool* domain name. Her you will find my old Fly II pages. Check the screenshots section, birds are there. The two pics were taken by Frank d`Hont (hope I spelled it right), and he kindly gave me the permission to use them at my site. (-: http://www.athomsen.org/index.html

Was on a flight from LGA to SEA and around Montana did a viewing of other aircraft in the area. Around some of those planes were birds flying alone, in 2 and 3s and even big V-formations! I didn't even know FLY! had birds until I saw recently a posting about them.Hmmm... Tastes Like Chicken!

Been messing around in Fly!II again and am wanting to get some Terrascene scenery for Colorado and Washington state as well as some others. Read a few posts in here about the data not being with the USGS anymore. If I try to render any of these places, (including elevation), whats gonna happen? I really miss my Seattle and surrounding area's scenery... :(Also, I saw once upon a time some updated Terrascene textures, are those still around, payware/freeware?Basically, whats the status of Terrascene and Fly!II?Merry Christmas fellow Fly'ers!Dondo

Hi All,In the Grumman AA5, the Jabiru, the Staggerwing, the Stearman, the Piper PA-28-161 it is necessary to turn the Carb Heater on by using the mouse L-click.In the Options TAB the carb heater is supposed to be turned on and off by the keyboard letter 'h', which it does not.The parking brake knob, for example, works fine. Can anyone tell me where the program is that activates a particular keystroke so I can try and correct the bug.:-hmmm

Hi everyone,I've just reinstalled Fly! II after a long absence (not my choice). The machine is new and has the following hardware:ATI Radeon X600 with 256MB3.0GHz Dual Core Intel Proc1GB MemoryI've made the appropriate render.ini changes (Vertex=0) and so forth, but I get this unusual flicker every 3 to 5 seconds. The screen clearly goes black for a fraction of a second and then carries on quite normally. Everything else seems to be working just fine. The problem is more irritating that debilitating and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and might have some suggestions on how to cure it.Also, on exit, Fly! crashes with an access violation (excep…

Hi all. I have Fly2 for many years but it's been collecting dust especially since the X-plane 7xx version and Century of Flight became available. I always liked the cockpit functionality of the default aircraft in Fly 2 among other things. I also always found it to be a bit buggy. Last time I attempted to run Fly 2 I had a terminal flashing lights problem that no settings changes would remove. This happened after my most recent general PC upgrade. At the time, it was AMD 2800xp, ATI radeon 9200 SE, and 512 meg of PC-3400. Currently, I am running the same 2800 XP with 768 meg of 3400, a 6600 GT, windows XP full service pack 2. What would I need in way of patches, u…
