The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Hi allThe implementation of LWM-Data is finished, only some testing and the readme to be done. For testing I use the original MFSF scenery data. BGL2SHP can extract and convert the roads, rivers, railways and lakes/coasts that come with the MSFS standard scenery and convert them into ESRI-shapefiles for Terrascene.Altitude (I recommend the free avaiable SRTM data) and landclassdata are not supported.Harald

G'day all,Well finally it's finished and uploaded.Ian Burton has done a heap of work helping to develop this aircraft. All data, photographs and beta testing was done by him. He actually did his first SOLO flight in the Grumman during the development of this model. Make sure you read the readme.txt file as this contains information relevent to the operation of the aircraft.Attached are just a couple of pics to give an idea of what the model looks like. enjoy.Off to make another model :-)Cheers,Roger

Hi allThe buildings for this two small Austrian airports - Gmunden (LOLU) and Scharnstein (LOLC) - I have converted with BGL2BIN from FS2004 freeware. I then added some of the generic trees and of my cars and aircrafts.I will upload the necessary DEX-Files, flattened TRN-Files and taxiways as soon as I have written a short readme-file. All you have to do is download the FS2004 scenery and convert it. This should be done in less than 30 minutes.Harald

Hello,A couple of days ago, I started installing some cockpits to all my air crafts. Everything was working great. Two days later, all my GPS' stopped working. Nothing pops up. Also, one of my cockpits gauges stopped working for no apparent reason (they were fantastic the first day.) I tried deleting all the files that I down loaded in the time frame, and it still doesn't work. Should I re-install flight sim or should I come about this problem another way? Thanks

Hi allI started to write a tool that converts MSFS2004 BGL-Files with VTP-data (streets, railways, powerlines, rivers) and LWM-data (watermasks for streams and lakes) to ESRI-shapefiles that can be used with terrascene. The VTP-Part is finished and I started to work on the LWM-part.To decide which BGL's to convert I recommend the freewaretool LWMViewer that draws a map-image of the contents of the BGL-Data.Harald

Hello fellow Fly!ers and real-world pilots. Its been 18 months since I achieved my ticket. I am about to begin my instrument training. Several of my pilot friends have recommended MS Flight Simulator as a good (and cheap) way to practice approaches and use the instruments. While this wouldn't qualify for PC simulator time under FAA rules, the practice is helpful regardless. As a long-time Fly! 2 flyer (I have a yoke and pedals as well), I'm planning to try our simulator before purchasing another. But one concern is the accuracy of the Fly!2 database, particularly given its relative age.Has anyone in the Fly! community taken out some approach plates and shot a few VOR approa…

By this time if the link is still active it must be legit. PMDG just doesn't want even questions about it. I think the "upgrade" might be a patch that fixes the autobrakes etc... Support is one thing, but not even basic info about products for sale? Sounds worse than not selling at all.Opinions?:-beerchugFLYing? It's cool. Trillions of birds and insects can't be wrong.
