The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Greetings everyone! After a little over two years, lots and lots of testing, pulling of hair, more testing - losing more hair... repainting, etc. it is finally ready for a public appearance!Making the landing:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/134666.jpgReady for some fishing:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/134667.jpgMany thanks to everyone at F2FD, ROTW and all who contributed to this project! There will still be a few refinements to come - namely with the panel - but she looks rather good and very fun to fly with! I apologize to the MAC Users at this time - for the floating capability will not be possible for them at this time. Maybe Laurent and I can find someone …

Hey guysI have been away from flight sims for a long time now, about 3 years probably. I want to get back into it so I dug out my FS, FLY and FLY2 CDs. My FLY2 cd is not working anymore, i don't get it. It's dead, i can't read it at all. I put it in and the light goes on and then the computer hangs until i just take the cd out. The cd is perfect, clean, no scrathces or anything. I installed FS2004 but I still crave the FLY panels which are still unmatched by any other sim. My qestion is, where can i get my hands on FLY2 again? I have not seen it for sale anywhere? Is there anyway i can get my hands on it now or am I screwed?BTW, i'm glad to see that the FLY commu…

Hi all,FlyLegacy is progressing quite well, Chris is working on the scenery rendering, Roland is fixing menu bugs and adding visual features such extra views and I'm developping the engine/gauges subsystem.I'm happy because the Cessna has came to life this w-e and the engine has been revved up for the first time ...As you may see in the pic below the panel(s) is displaying a fuelflow and the rpm is in its low rev. Not a big deal you may say but a big result for me, eh, eh !Chris has made a very awesome good frame and now, coding is like making huges dlls ... really great ! Unfortunally there's still a long way before an alpha exe could be shared but we it's almost half wa…

The TGA file produced by Terrascene has some significant gaps in various rivers and coastlines. I was wondering if anyone has determined if this is the underlying USGS data or something that confuses Terrascene?Dick Boley @KLBE

Hello Wayne,I want to thank you for the huge job you do for the Fly!ers community but I have a remark for you.You have recently release three airports: Igor I. Sikorsky Memorial Airport, Tweed-New Haven Airport, and Waterbury-Oxford Airport; now, after a check I have noticed that these three airports were already done by Scott Cannizzaro and are included in the file "ny_metro_ga_airports_v2.zip" available at the Avsim Library.I don't want you stop to do new versions for existing airports but, when you realize a new version, please mention in the README file that Fly!ers must remove the previous version before using the new one.Thank you for taking my demand into considera…

Hi allI wrote a small program "NOCRASH" which analyses BGL-Files and removes the crashcode and corrects the "No texture"-flag. Now you can use this files with FSIMP. This tool only works with the old BGL-Format (but there are still a lot of FS2004-sceneries made with the old MAKEMDL-Tool - even GMAX-created - and my program gives a warning if the File is in the new BGL-Format)I tested it with the FS2002 Vienna-scenery from Johannes Loy, available at AVSIM (look at added screenshots).Does anybody want to give it a try ? Let me know in this forum.I also wrote a program to convert new FS2004-BGL-files to the old Format, so you can use them in FS2002 or older and therefor con…

yes, as you can suppose it, Jean Sabatier, one of our aircraft builders, is preparing another bird.In this time, she is in beta test to adjust the flight model and some other elements: I think you will have her in your hangar in this month. Oh, sorry, you don't know about what aircraft I am speaking...OK, OK, look at the main panel, I am sure you know nowhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/129008.jpgWill you love her?

G'day all, The forums been pretty quiet as of lately so I thought I'd try a little experiment.Last night ( well this morning actually 0200 ) I uploaded an aircraft to the library and went off to bed. Got up this morning, had breakfast and logged on to Avsim at midday. The upload has not yet been publicised on the Avsim front page. Just out of curiosity I went searching to see if the file was actually available and to my surprise found that it was and that it had already 47 downloads. I was expecting a zero download ( I'm not complaining - just pleasantly surprised but also confused :-) )1. Do simmers have some 6th sense that tells them there's a file to upload?.2. P…

I have finally gotten new Wiki software installed on the Fly! Legacy SourceForge web site. Since this is now hosted by SF.net it should be more reliable than the old version. The new software is MediaWiki, the same package that runs some of the web's largest Wiki's such as Wikipedia. Not that I expect we'll need to manage 750,000+ articles, but the old package that I ran on my local machine was not really appropriate under SF's hosting rules and I felt that MediaWiki, while having way more features than we'll ever need, was a stable and reliable way to go.Due to limited resources on the SF.net account, and to comply with their web server policies, please do not upload …

Gentleman, I downloaded and installed a file for Alaska AK180_v10.Whenever I go to an airport at one of these sites, my runway markings do not match my GPS nor my aircraft directions. IE. runway 33 on the runway will show up as heading east at runway 7. I wonder if there is a simple way to correct there errors. Really confusing when you think you are flying north when you are really flying south. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Ray (Flyer 2)

Hi all,I have a problem. So I installed my flightsim 2004 game, and all was going great. The next day i go to fly, the airplanes were all messed up. Firstly, when taking off, the planes go to 250 K before even leaving the ground! Secondly, when I want to land, I have to turn off the engines because the plane will be going to fast if I don't. Turning the engine off at least gets me at 130 K. Landing is impossible, the plane ALWAYS bounces twice, and in order to land I have to put the plane at an angle of 35 degress going south others wise the plan goes up. This happens to all the planes. Can anyone help me?Thanks
