The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Well, after all that fussing around with MTHP I now realize that D-BNNN does not have the normal Contact Air tail paint scheme at all! Most of the others in the fleet do, and I have used MTHP to fix the elevator problem (thanks Leen! ;-)) but that will have to be one of the others in the fleet (I'm thinking D-BQQQ for no particular reason, unless anybody has a preference...Georg?) According to the pics on Airliners.net, D-BNNN has a fairly boring paint scheme, but I'll upload it nonetheless, and D-BQQQ with the normal blue and yellow tail paint scheme to follow.Chris WallaceOttawa, Canada

Hi Guys,I'm trying to slow down the visual deployment time on the flaps (so that the flap appears to move slowly)I thought it would just be a case of adding a ( 9.0 line ) into the WING file under the FLAP section (similar to the GEAR deployment in the WHEEL file). But I can't seem to slow down the FLAP part movement. As anybody any ideas?...........or Is this something that has to be modified in the PART MODEL.Thanks for your invaluable helpJohn

OK, assuming I haven't goofed anything up in the final POD (not such an unlikely assumption), the Aeromar repaint of ROTW's ATR 42-500 should be available shortly in the Fly! II Aircraft section of the library. Thanks again Leen, I can safely say that I couldn't have done it without your efforts and help! This was a fun diversion, and although I doubt I have a budding second career as a graphic artist, the experience has definitely encouraged me to look at doing other aircraft repaints from time to time.Chris WallaceOttawa, Canada

I would like to apologise for my outburst the other day/evening. I hope I didnt offend anyone too much, or at all! It was wrong of me, and I see that now.My kind regards to all of you, steve.PS. Thanks for the kind words of encouragement and emails sent. You all put me back on the right path. I now feel like a silly Moose and I wonder back to the Forest *:-*

I am amazed to see that a few months away from design, modeling seems to flow. I learned the hard way with the Electra( which is practically finished, except for a few paneling and flight dynamics tweaks). Here's the tail with rudder and elevators moving.

G'day all,I thought now might be the time to re-release the Jabiru. Very quietly uploaded it to the library last night without prior notice.logged on tonight and hey 16 downloads overnight. No mention yet on the Avsim front page.!! So there are simmers just lurking the library for downloads. Thanks must be given to Jan for setting me straight about environment mapping and the Fly! II editor. No more nasty CTD's ( fingers crossed :-) ). This latest upload has been improved thanks to suggestions from beta testers Tony and Steve. * darker cockpit windows * new exterior view of instrument panelOnce again a huge thank you to - Jean Sabatier for his aircraft tutorial, Chris …

Hi Everyone,I was just wondering whether any of you guys who have written Python scripts in the past would'nt mind me taking a peek at them, .......so I can get the feel of what the mandatory lines of code are and how they interact with Fly.If you'd be so kind you can either Email them to me or Post them here (which ever suits you).I've read Rich's script PDF file and have Tony and Georg's samples, but would'nt mind seeing a few more examples. Thanks Guys for any help.p.s. Does anyone have a current email address for Jeff Davis. Ive tried his address which was posted with his Yakster script, but I think its no longer applicable.

I have been doing "missions" for BFU in Alaska and notice a lot of airports for FS9 our beloved FLY doesn't have. Have there been database updates that include Alaska? Also, I heard about an "Alaska Project". What does that involve and is it in progress? I really like the enhanced elevations for SE Alaska and the Aluetians, the taxiway pod and of course Wayne's contributions. Those who have toiled in the area, your efforts are apreciated. If there is no existing update for Alaska, I could take a stab at it, at least runways/seaports if not taxiways. I have a 2005 AOPA US airports directory that might come in handy for that. Just don't want to "reinvent the wheel".I tried …

Coincidentally there is an ATR 42-500 in the Aeromar (Mexico) fleet with registration XA-TRI! I thought I'd follow Leen's advice and take a stab at a repaint. I'm surprised that it's progressing as well as it is after only a couple of hours...this being my first repaint of anything! The paint kit really does make things so much easier...being able to immediately get reasonably close on the scale and alignment relative to the base texture really speeds things along.Constructive comments are welcome, I need to fix the side fuselage logo to even out a few bumps, maybe do a couple of tweaks here and there, but unless there are any glaring problems I'll upload it tonight.ht…

This probably belongs in the Developer's forum, but I thought it might be of interest to anybody repainting the ATR...I noticed in the existing repaints that the entire base panel image seems to be replaced with an updated panel in order to have the repaint registration # appear on the panel. It's certainly the right thing to do for realism, but there is an alternative way to do this that only requires the repainter to provide a small bitmap that gets overlaid on top of the registration # on the default panel.I first determined the appropriate offset and bitmap size from the main panel, cut and pasted that portion (118x30 pixels) into a new image, obliterated the default…

Hi Guys,I was thinking of how to generate some new interest in FLY and can't understand why more has'nt been done with the Python programming script. Is there problems with the script? or do we just lack the guys with python knowledge and knowhow.I've been trying to get in touch with Jeff Davis (the author of Yakster) but my emails are being returned. (If anyone knows his email address i'd be grateful).......anyhowWhat I had in mind was a script similar to Jeffs which would allow several folders eg. Heavy Jets, Turbo Props, Landings, Take-offs, Baggage Carts, vehicles etc...So that sound wav files can be placed in the folders and played randomly along with silent interval…

Look at this picture:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/117103.jpgThis is the number of ATR downloads on simvol at this time, after 4 days.(the counter is 783, but if we divides the total download size by the size of the zip file, we find 589)And there are 446 checklist downloads.Intersesting no?Comments?

Folks,I've created a page on the Wiki site for the ATR 42-500, not much is there but feel free to contribute. One thing I've started is a repaint "signup" sheet. Although there might only be a couple of folks doing repaints, this is a means to coordinate and reduce the chances of anybody duplicating effort. (It's also just an example of the kind of "open collaboration" I had intended for the Wiki to track) I've listed a bunch of operators (past and present) that I know of, but the list is surely incomplete. Hope to see lots more repaints of this wonderful offering from our friends at ROTW!!http://flylegacy.dyndns.org/twiki/bin/view/Fly/ATR42-500Chris WallaceOttawa, C…
