Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

For network flight fans, Roland Herblot (ROTW) has improved the Squawkbox tool in creating a 3.2 release. But he has added also a new Fly! specific module named POTW for "Patrol Over The World".Go to the specific page on simvol site (in english) and try it: you will be surprised!"...POTW

I simply replaced the old aircraft v4 pod with the version 5 and now I don't have internal sound. I hear the wind and other sounds, except for engine sounds. The options menu appears ok, and the external sounds work fine. All other aircrafts don't have any sound issues. Version 4 was fine also. Anyone else with this issue?Tony

  6. HiCreating a flightplan with VOLNAV gives me unrealistic long distances even between Airports that are very close. Look at the attachment (LOXT and LOWW are about 40 NM aApart, Volnav says 6000).The function "center at" works fine, drawing the flightplan takes forever.I am using XP-Professional SP2 US-Version, Fly!! German Version with all Patches and VOLNAV 1.41.Maybe a problem with the decimal point. (. vs ,)thanks for your helpHarald

Hi FLYers!First of I would like to thank Rene and ROTW team for this amazing aircraft!I have downloaded version 5 now and it flys GREAT. I do have trouble when "Manuel" starting though....Yes, I did read the manuel BUT my fuel valve does not want to open even when following the procedures exactly. I am not sure if it is me or the Thrustmaster Joystick that is playing up. I tried to control the "condition" lever with various axis and still, it does not want to open, but when I start up with the "E" key it does?I did search the Forum but did not find anybody who had this problem before therefore I am very certain it is ME or my set up.Thanks for all the great offerings and …

This is by no means a criticism of the wonderful work that Wayne does populating our FlyII world with airports. It is a review of the problems that result from the different data bases for the Australian airports that Wayne has used and that Danny Vickers has also uploaded to AVSIM.If one has installed Danny's database Wayne's taxiways and runways do not align up.These are some that are affected. I do not know if this list is complete. The airports are:Charleville YBCU; Chinchilla YCCA; Cobar YCBA; Curtin YCIN; Cooktown YCKN; Clermont YCMT; Cunnamulla YCMU; Coonamble YCNM; Coen YCOE; Corowa YCOR; Corryong YCRG; Cootamundra YCTM; Doomadgee YDMG; Dysart YDYS; Hay YHAY; Herve…

G'day all,Ok all I have done is downloaded C4TO-base.zip and extracted the zip (with maintain folders checked) to the Fly! II root directory.I read the readme for C4TO vers 3.0 ( nothing in it about installation or setup, just authors )I read (and printed out )another readme file (but for C4TOV2.zip)which has heaps of info about installation and use of C4TO so I followed that file.I select aircraft, set time, make flight plan and select Alt F-12However it just doesn't seem to work. If I select options/sound and uncheck the ATC I get no voices.Alt AAlt C Alt Rdon't apear to have any effect. At one stage (at KSFO) I did contact (oakland??) but for taxi clearance was clear…

After paradoxbox's Pilatus thread, I gave her a few quick flights. I have a few problems/questions.What is the trick to using the autopilot to chance altitude? I attempted to descend by reducing the setting to the alt. I wanted. I then change the VS setting to about -500. But the Pilatus wanted to climb. After climbing for about 1000 feet she finally started the expected decent. Is this normal? Seems like it took too long to adjust the trim or something.Other question is how do you shut her down? I had to pull the emergency fuel lever to get the engines to stop. Maybe there is something I missed.Would like to find a fix for these. Thanks again for your help.

G'day all, I'm currently downloading C4TO ver 3.1 (dll) and wonder do I need to download both the 3.2 patch and the 3.3 patch or do I only need the 3.3 patch.? ie. Are the 3.2 modifications included in the 3.3 patch.Decided it's time to add a bit of ATC chat to my flying. :-)Cheers,Roger

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone familiar with python scripting or coding in C++ could possibly make a small tool for Fly!II.Basically-It should be an auto save tool. It should check the fuel state in each tank on the aircraft, the airspeed, gear state, flaps position, and if possible the fuel flow/engine conditioner setting. It should then save it to a file in the Fly!II save game directory. It should do this every 5-10 minutes, overwriting the old file each time. This would allow us to restart a flight if Fly ever becomes unstable and crashes. It'd be REAL nice to have this on a long haul, like when I leave my 777 on a flight to Hong Kong and go to work.Is this feasabl…

Hi Wayne,I always get the error message that FRATOWER.BINcannot be found when firing FLY! with EDDM selected. As nobody else complained until now I was a little doubtful whether it might be my personal problem and I installed again (now not in the external folder) and looked into the shared directory (all there: Biber, Steve, TM256).Is there an error in your scenery OR - if not - which other POD should I have to get FRATOWER.BIN?Thank you in advanceRegardsGeorg HeliFLYer EDDW

I currently have the panel for the Flyhawk that covers the entire screen when I'm in cockpit mode. I've been trying to find a way to get back the original default panel without much success, so I can install Steve Browns repaint. Hmmmmmmm, I'm sure its one simple file that I can remove to put it back to the default panel but which one?Any help or suggestions would be greatAli
