The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I just noticed a post on another forum about screenshots. Shots for the purpose of demonstrating a problem, how to resolve a problem or providing "tutorial" info are allowed on any forum. However, shots that demonstrate a particular aircraft, scenery etc should go in the "screenshots" forum. Since even the files on the DVD are all available as freeware, I doubt the "comercial vendors" provisions apply to ROTW though. Perhaps with permission from Chris the Wicki Web might serve as our personal "screen shots website"? The new rules are in the very small print above the list of all forums. Also about the Wicki Web: I am interested in making don…

Up until now I have been using Volnav beta 5 without any problems.I downloaded and installed Volnav 1.2 and have found that when I start the program and click on the English change I receive a message to restart Volnav to effect the change. I assume this means to close out and resart the program. On doing this I receive an error message and the program starts in the French version.I also downloaded the US map zip file. and copied this to the volnav directory. This doesn't seem to have any effect on the program.Richard

Hi all,From today, some modifications concerning our website at Fly.Simvol:- the opening page was simplified, the former one is accessible by choosing "Enter the site" from the mini-menu at the top.- now "French/English" choice is clearer (I hope) :-roll - especially, "The headlines" management was completely revised:* it is now organized with a dedicated database (MySql + php): the former "pop-up" window disappears. You can consult them from the mini-menu at the top (or as previously, from the left menu).* "Last news" a little bit old will be archived and not destroyed; that will facilitate the research for our occasional visitors. In brief, Fly.Simvol should be more func…

Hi All,I may have discovered a fix for the error:TEXT3D3ERR_ELINFO: an unknown 3d3 error occured. When one uses a Nvidia video card and the latest drivers on Fly!1 and Fly2k.As far as I can see the problem lies in the file: "tridx6.dll"So I copied over the file "tridx7.dll" from Fly!2 to Fly!1 and modified my .vcf file. From:nVidia GeForcefx (AGP)tridx6.dll4318 // Video Card ID #1818 // Video Card ID #22 // AGP Flag (0=no AGP, 1=High Detail, 2=High Detail+Triple Buffer)1 // AGP Must Exist (if AGP is non-zero on previous line)1 // Mip mapping0 // Allow AutoMipMapping (Mip Mapping must be off)0 // Direct Texture Mode0 // Alternate Blend Mode0 // Texture Count 32 (0=default)48…

Hi, I'm wondering if the autobrakes in the 777ER are functional or if they just never got fixed before PMDG moved on. So far I'm unable to get them to work. In PS1.3 it's a pretty simple process, turn the knob and you've got autobrakes. Is there some kind of condition that must be met in the 777 for them to activate?I've tested it both in RTO/Aborted takeoff mode and in regular usage. The PMDG manual states that autobrakes should engage if the throttles hit idle before V1 when the knob is set to RTO. No go unfortunately, the airplane will roll down the runway until you hit the grass or intervene manually. Also unable to discern any uniform deceleration even with reversers…

Hi all,Daniele and Donny reported an error occuring in FLY!2Tweaker when trying to open the render.ini file "'32 ' is not a valid integer .." (it might also bei any other value!!!) :-(This happened because there are render.ini files with whitespaces at the end of the line (and I NEVER had those when testing). The magic word "trim" in the code solved the problem and a corrected version 1.7 will be uploaded to the FLY! Wiki the next time.YOU MAY DO THIS WORKAROUND IF YOU WANT TO USE VERSION 1.6:- open render.ini with the "EDITOR" of Windows- mark the whole text as a block- you may see that some lines do NOT end with a number but a whitespace- go with the cursor at the end o…

Hi. It has been a long time since I last posted on this forum. I was so frustrated not with Fly 2 but with my USB CH products yoke and rudder peddles going to sleep during a flight. I tried everything incl flashing the bios only to stuff up the whole thing. However I installed a new motherboard with a much more up to date bios and I have to report that it is once again a pleasure to fly with Fly2.I have been doing a spot of catchup particularly with the Rotw website. I am intrigued by their DVD version of Fly 2 and wonder whether this is suitable to English speaking guys like myself. If anybody has installed this and might like to give a report I would be grateful.Meanti…

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I have an appointment to take pics of a Lear 35 in another week. Any tips? I have arranged loan of a high-end digital camera, capable of 2035 X forget the height resolution. Also if those pics turn out, I have permission to get pics of the BE-103, a Russian piston twin amphib. I could go there any time but I want to practice on the Lear and it's out on a charter. Plus the head of the US distribution center is dealing with a contingent from Russia which has been installing prop reversers just certified for type in the US, and will be less busy in a few weeks.I'm starting to play around with panel maker, a real world pic I saw of the Captain'…

Hi All,I have finally worked my way up to the twin engine (after a detour to the helos) and, following the manual step by step, have discovered that I am unable to adjust the left/right side throttle/prop/mixture controls independently. I.E. they move as one.Using the key mapping tool, I was unable to find seperate controls listed, yet the exercises in the manual have me shutting down one engine while in flight by pulling the mixture to full lean, as well as sycning the props by making slight adjustments in the left/right prop controls. Also, on both the Kodiak and the Sahara, during the pre-take off runup, I find that switching one magneto off (looking for the rpm drop) k…

Hi FLY! friends, the little "FLY!2Tweaker" helper tool is now out with version 1.6.I have uploaded it to AVSIM now.UploadID: 163912Name: FLY2tweakerSize: 338 kbThere are two reasons that there is no real manual for this tool1. I am not sure how many people really use FLY!2Tweaker as up to now I have not got a single bug-report for the versions up to 1.4. But I doubt that people who really used it could not find anything wrong. If there are people who don't understand how to use it, I may write some sort of manual for the next version. But you can always contact me via AVSIM or the eMail address you find at the bottom of this text.2. I used my today's sparetime to imp…

A very minor but I'm sure very easily solved problemWhen I go to an airport and "CRTL-E" and bring up the editor I can use the car symbol, windsock symbol and the others but as soon as I click on the house symbol to bring up buildings, planes and other assorted stuff from Biberall I exit right away from the program to the desk top. hmmmmmmm, is someone able to help or explain which terra model pods I should have in my scenery/shared folder, right now I have tm256 and tm21_256 in there. It worked fine before. I recently installed Terramodels V2.20, could that be the problem?Ali

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I have been going over default planes listing bugs so they can be fixed. This is what I noticed in the Pilatus. Some of these bugs may only occurr when switching from certain aircraft types. Did I Miss any?First, glaring bugs that affect usability of the plane:Condition lever: It will not shut down engine. Sometimes the engine overspeeds and occasionally not enough power is available for taxi. Usually the overspeeding and lack of power goes away after switching to B200 and back. Engine must be shut off by pulling fuel. If I do this then exit FLY, when I return in persistent World the engine will start by cycling the fuel cutoff even though …
