Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

I've stayed in contact with some of you in the Fly! community for the last several years (has it been that long?) so I thought I'd share my recent accomplishment. Last Friday I passed my instrument checkride! All along the way, I've used Fly!2 to work on my procedures when the weather was too poor to fly outside. My story then starts in 2000 when I anxiously awaited the original Fly!. In 2002 I started my flight training, but had to quit when I lost my job. Then in July of 2003 I got started again and got my private that November. A year ago, my flight school needed a new 172S and I had the great fortune of being able to pick up 2099J and put it on the flight line. …

Hello All My Fly2 friends.Sadly I have to tell you all, I will no longer be creating for Fly2, for the near future at least. My health is getting worse day by day, and the pains in my chest and dizzyness is continueing. I wish you all the best, and those of my team mates in F2FDesign. I will continue ( I hope) with my website, as this is my obligation to NASA and the Millenium Award Commission. When I feel fit again I may continue with my (our) hobby.I was due back at NASA for December this year, but it has now been cancelled, Im devastated about this, but without my health its no good. Over the past few years I have made some of the best friends one could wish for on the…

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!Some wrapped copies of FLY FLY 2K and FLY 2 are available on ebay. Others sell as CD only meaning box was opened but there is hope for those that don't have FLY 2 but want it now that the ROTW DVD is available. It seems some online stores have a bunch of copies as these auctions seem to start one after another. To get yours search the "video games" category. I got 64 items to search thru using "FLY" as a keyword but make sure "search title and description" is unchecked or you will wind up with over three thousand! I am buying a couple myself, my original copy won't last forever.:-wave

Hello guys. I would appreciate some help if I may.I have never done a Fly!II skin before and I just don't know where to start with POD files and the formats used inside them, or even where the textures actually are. Could someone please point me in the direction of a good tutorial or two on skinning for Fly!II if there is some available. I searched the forums here but didn't come up with much.FYI: I want to do a Northern Territory of Australia Police Air Wing PC-12, a Royal Flying Doctor Service PC-12 and a Victorian Police Air Wing Dauphin. Fly!II is absolutely awesome in that it has 'major' remote aerodromes in the NT such as Gove a few hours flight east of Darwin Inter…

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!The Cessna has very few bugs that affect usability, the most glaring deficiency in the default Cessna other than the parking brake is NO KATE RYAN IN THE BACK SEAT!!! Ahem, bugs that directly affect usability are: Aforementioned parking brake allows aircraft to move at 1500 RPM 2227 lb gross weight.I seem to remember the GPS NAV 1 slaving being a problem and I didn't use it for a long time till I checked it when compiling this list. None of the patches I installed mentioned it in the readme but it now works perfectly though it hunts a little excessively when activated in my opinion.Autopilot goes off on a tangent when APR or BC function sel…

We had announced it because it was one of our decisions during our "congress" on December, 2004 and we did it!The ROTW Fly!II DVD is available! If you're a Fly! II fan or an occasional visitor who doesn't use it a lot or not at all (how much does Fly!II CD's sleep in a drawer, near to an old good FS98, put there because disappointed by the latest version bugs and by its updating complexity ?), you're surely concerned by the fruit of 4 years'creativity by the ROTW.And in addition it's auto-loadable: you can even start a "patched" Fly! with a "new look" directly at the end of the auto-loading procedure. Finally, and it's the height of refinement, it's bilingual and may be ins…

I'd like to invite anybody who uses trueSpace 3.2 (or perhaps higher versions) for modelling aircraft or scenery objects to drop me a line to test out a new plug-in exporter for TRI S3D files. This plug-in works the same way as the 3DS MAX plugin that TRI supplied with Fly! II. It takes your trueSpace scene and generates a .S3D file that can be imported by either the Shape Editor or Keyframe Editor in Fly! II to generate .SMF or .ACM files for static or animated objects respectively. Thanks to Roger Mazengarb and Paul Simpson for their test efforts to date, and Even Larsen for finally squashing some persistent bugs related to part animations.I will finish off the documen…
