The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I am not keen to clutter up my aircraft selection list with two of the same aircraft. The only reason I didn't delete the Dragonfly was I couldn't find the file- till a few days ago. The description in the file library said the Dragonfly was an "enhanced performance" version. I climbed the Sahara to FL 25 and set 32 MAP 2400 RPM peak CHT. I topped out at 217-223 kots groundspeed. Without touching the throttle I switched to the Dragonfly. After resetting RPM/peak and waiting for the cabin to repressurise I was doing 253 knots!!! I switched back and forth between Sahara/Dragonfly several times and the Dragonfly consistently acheived 250+ KTS …

Quick question....I dusted off my copy of Fly because I remembered that there is a disk labled charts and I am wondering if there is a way to view and print those charts. Any ideas? I searched through this group and could not find any mention of this and I appologize if it has been asked before. Thanks,Dale

Hi all,I am getting back to Fly2 more and more because of the steady stream of absolutely stunning freeware being published for it. Good job everyone! One thing has always bugged me, particularly for helicopter flying and that is the fixed view system. For general aviation and instrument flying in particular this is not a big disadvantage at all, but judging approaches, finding the hover button etc I find myself wishing for a more wide angle view, slightly looking down and ideally slewable. Even back when the original Fly was published it looked like an omission, but these days people are just accustomed to it. Without comparing to other sims, my question is: Is there a te…

have done a fantstic thing: a dvd add on that updates FLY2. go to their site and marvel at the great work. Somehow, we've got to convince TRi to release some more source code to these folks.tony

Hi all,Came across an interesting website a few days ago.It has tutorials for the Malibu, the Hawker and the PMDG Boeing 777.Unfortunately, the site is no longer maintained and the downloads cannot be obtained.I followed the flightplan for the Malibu (as best I could with no download for it) and found some features that I had not previously noted. It is well worth a look at.www.zulu1.com:-cool

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!This is what I came up with in the Malibu. Some of these bugs may only occur when switching from certain aircraft types. I have never flown Dragonfly.I present this list not to complain but so developers can make a great simulation even greater. In a previous post I mentioned magnetos. THAT BUG HAS ALREADY BEEN FIXED! (Check malibu/Navoho magnetos thread.) The computer I fly on is not on the internet so I have not tried this fix yet.First, glaring bugs that affect usabilaty of plane to some extent.Malibu moves with parking brake on during runup.Yaw damper does not keep ball centered.Autopilot rocker switch messed up, ROTW mentioned in Senac…

G'day all,This is a spin off from another thread. I just thought that it deserves a more prominent position in the listings, maybe catch more peoples attention. Is it just me (fully patched, Win 98 SE) or can someone confirm that the magneto switches for Tri's Sahara (Malibu) and Kodiak (Navajo) serve absolutely no function whatsoever. ( magneto's permanently live :-eek !!). - some maintenance guy has neglected to connect the wires to the switches :-)Hopefully thats all thats wrong within Fly! II also. Could someone in the Know please take a look at this.Cheers,Roger

I'm getting this error when I use the FLY/FL2K texture option instead of the default FLY2 7.5 mp but if I use the default FLY2 texture it's O.K.Help will be appreciated,chris_CA http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/105514.jpg

Hi, I recently reinstalled Fly2 (had to reformat HD :( and have a couple of questions. 1) Is there any icing in Fly2 or any addon/hack/trick to get icing to work? I read an older post that mentioned changing the system.ini file and changing all icing settings to 1 and ignore icing settings to 0. I tried this but to no avail. I couldn't get the enableicing message to work either (tried 1-3 for settings). 2) I was curious if ground effect is simulated in Fly2. It seems the aircraft isn't affected by ground effect at all upon landing. If it is simulated, is there a special setting to use, etc? Robert Williamson

Hi, Is there anybody interested in doing a 172N for FlyII? I could provide pics, specs and sounds. Also, if anybody in Minneapolis wants a ride in a real 172 send me an email.paul [email protected]

Hi All,It's taken a bit longer than I thought it would but other things like work and Christmas got in the way :-)Fly!Mesh is now available as a first release! It's not finished yet but most features are working. If you have TerraShape then unzip the archive into the same directory. If not then put it where you wish.It doesn't access the registry in any way.For now, it is on my home site where it is easier to update. You can get it here Fly!MeshAny feedback is welcome good or bad :-)Colin

Hi folks,As we all know , there are several new planes in the pipeline.I am not allowed to make confidential things public , so I won`t.BUT there is one question wich I would like the have made clear.I present it to you as a strick personal initiative.Let me explain:Making a new 3D model is a huge job but there are several talents able to do such.Making panels is even more complicated.Question:What do you think about publishing a 3D model without a panel? This needs more explanation.Lets say we have an airplane wich is ready , painted and all , the panel is not yet been made and can take many months to accomplish. The kind of aircraft in this example should have a panel w…

Just got done with enough tiles to complete a few flights. These are much livelier than the base TS2 textures pulled off the FlyII program. Have a look...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/104472.jpgThis is the coastal range between Newport and Hillsboro, Oregon. A beautiful area of the country and now even nicer than before in FlyII. Thank you Jak :)Zane

It's difficult with a shot here and there to just relate how much these new textures make the landscape come to life. This was taken at 4,000 feet heading north from Roseburg, Oregon towards Eugene. The whole panorama was breathtaking :)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/104969.jpgNow to talk Jak into the updated Sky textures... what ya think?Zane

I am a first time user running fly!II version 2.5.240 and i am trying to install a file vicrwy_1.dex which realigns the runways in Victoria, Australia and it says i need to unpack the runway.epd first with the latest database editor. My current editor is not the latest one. Where can i get a copy of the latest editor and a set of detailed instructions on how to use it. my current editor when i press 2 only comes up with a directory list but won't let me do anything else.

Before thinking about another beta version of FLY!, how about to give a chance for FLY!II, or how can FLY!II world be made more "practicable" for all ? In the mind of simmers around us -me at last-, FLY! is always a "restricted area", the same bug riddled hard to customize program we have years ago. Create without headache his own scenery with a few datas, worlwide, is now more than ever the "good old" key for FLY! series life. In fact, we've nearly all we need... in pieces, pieces of art, of course : Terrascene, Terrashape, Shapetools, and fine free tools by others gentlemen too. In fact, for the gentlemen, we have all the knights of the round table... without the table …

G'day all,If success is judged by numbers sold then this little plane is the best all Australian aircraft of all time.500+ (all variants) have been unleashed on an unwitting world. :-) Cheers,Roger

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I can set you up with an instructor at my flying club who will give you some stick time on a remote control plane using dual controls. There will be no charge if you use my plane. Starting in May you can use a club plane for 30 days when an instructor is available at a cost of only TEN dollars to offset fuel cost. Avsim members can e-mail me or use the inbox. I am away from the internet for days at a time but I will get back to you. My club is located near Allentown, Pennsylvania USA aproximately 60 miles from Philadelphia and 95 miles from New York. My club's web address is lvrcs.com, feel free to check it out.

Donny AKA ShalomarIn every real plane I have been in the gyros spin up as soon as the master switch is turned on. ELECTROmechanical gyros is what they are called. In Fly 2 the gyros don't come on till engine start. Even worse, when you lose the port engine in the Navaho or B200 you lose the gyro and HSI 4 the captain, and vice versa 4 starboard. They should keep running with or without electricity on vacuum provided by the operating engine. "Use Alternate air" never works on any FLY plane. The Seneca has all gyros running off the port engine, at least in the Navaho & B200 U can scroll 2 the copilot side if U lose port engine. The TBM has separate gyro switches that wo…

Hi, anyone of ROTW listening here?I installed L'Alpe d'Huez (LFHU) and verified that the POD/SCF File are installed correctly in the scenery folder. But the scenery is not showing correctly (see attached screenshots). Only a runway artefact and a lonly tree? can be seen.I did a second test and unpodded the scenery and copied it into the correct folders - no change! There must be a CONFLICT with another (French?) scenery I have installed, I think. Before searching for hours just the question - anything known about possible scenery conflicts at ROTW?Thank you in advanceGeorgHeliFLYER EDDWhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/104644.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/104645.jp…

Donny AKA ShalomarAttention ROTW: I was glad when I saw the TBM had a self installer cuz I'm a plug and play kind of guy. But I couldn't see the plane on the select menu after it ran. This happened a few months ago and recently I tried again. I found the plane had been installed to a created folder on my E drive called "Fly ii". I set the folder to E Program files FLY II aircraft and the aircraft appeared at the top of my aircraft selection list. When I tried to select it I got an error message. Upon further investigation I found the entire folder including DLL's in my aircraft folder. Finally I manually put the Dll's in Modules, PC and the TBM pod in aircraft then took o…

Donny AKA ShalomarI finally got the Seneca going but I can't tune the NAV or COM radios. When I put my cursor over the digits nothing happens. I tried tuning with the knob. The outer ring and the inner ring both control fractional digits. Left click reduces fractional digits and right increases them. (NOT what the manual 4 that radio said!) I tried the "tune radios" option under "aircraft" to no effect. Finally I was able to tune NAV 1 by using the "tune" feature under "directory, details.' I installed the TBM 700 the same day and those radios are fine. The ADF and the transponder started working in the Seneca after I refreshed all the folders. Incidentally when I move th…
