Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Hi Wayne,Thanks for Huntsville. Now we have another airport to fly to from Atlanta that is 30 minutes or so. That is usually all the time I can steal away....Thanks again for all your hard work and dedication.Earl

Wayne, thanks for KUGN Waukegan Regl., this really adds to my little corner of the Midwest. If you don't mine the question, how long does it take to scene an airport of this size?Regards, Mike

Folks,You can download it as an [a href=http://www.f2fdesign.com/downloads/PILAHI.ACM]ACM[/a] or as a compressed [a href=http://www.f2fdesign.com/downloads/PILAHI.zip]ZIP[/a] file. If you download the zip file, first decompress it. Place the .ACM file in your /models folder and that's it.This fixes the animation of the Pilatus' propeller which is incorrect and, among other problems, skips a frame. The next one to fix will be the Flyhawk...Enjoy!http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/dfdg/banneraa.jpg

Dear fellow Fly!ers,Based on a technique originally developed by F2FD for the Dauphin's searchlight, and thanks to Laurent Claudet's ingenuity and outstanding programming skills, we now have the ability to add moving lights to our aircraft. We used the Pilatus as an example, because its taxi light is mounted on the nose gear. On the default Pilatus, the taxi light remains pointing forward while the nose gear is pivoted left and right. With this addon the light pivots with the gear!!!We've enclosed a Readme file that gives a very basic explanation of how this was accomplished. You can download this addon from the www.F2FDesign.com downloads section. We look forward to your fe…

Folks,At Wayne "Eagle" Robert's request, we have posted a survey for you to tell him which airports you would like him to focus on.If by now you don't know who is Wayne or what he does then you've been living in a different planet :-spacecraft (or you're new to Fly! :-newbie).Just in case, Wayne (aka Eagle) has been "populating" US airports with Allen Kriesman's TerraModels Scenery Development System since May of 2002. He's the second "Most Prolific Uploader" to the Avsim File Library, with 630 uploads as of today! Please cast your vote [a href=http://f2fdesign.com/WayneRoberts.html]here[/a]!!!http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/dfdg/banneraa.jpg

The electra panel will be different: it will not have a copilot side. So what you see is the captain's side only. I've done this for practical reasons: time. You can see that some guages are still not in their right place, but things are coming along just fine.I happened to stumble on the 747 panel and could not stop admiring what a great panel that is. I rarely fly that I forget what wonderful works people have done for this sim.tony

HiMaybe you have noticed. In the ROTW forum there are a lot of hints and tricks about making scenery from Landsat7 ETM+ Images.Unfortunately its in french, but with free translation tools from the internet it's understandable although funny to read.I have now downloaded my first images (4 different channels) and assembled them with Multispec as described into a colour-image.The process is straightforward and well documented by ROTW. It would have taken weeks for me to figure this all out.I hope someday's they will write a tutorial in english about the use of Landsat images.Thank You Harald

HiI have written a little C-program which can smoothen polyline-shapefiles (Shapetype 3)like roads and railways from DCW (digital chart of the world)-shapefiles using the Bezier algorithm on all angels greater then 10 degrees. You can apply this program several times to enhance smoothness. In the appendix you see a Screenshot of the DCW-RRLINE-Shapefile and the result after 1 (RRLINE2), 2 (RRLINE3) and 3 (RRLINE4) passes. It's still a beta with nearly no errorhandling included.I ask if somebody is interested in this program and maybe the source-code.I'ts my first C-Program so I am sure it can be improved.Harald

I think it's positively amazing how much work Wayne Roberts has done with Fly - he's nearly singlehandedly populated the Fly world with airport sceneries! This is one of the main reasons I'm still liking and using FlyII as my main flight sim. Any time I'm interested in Terrascening a new area, I can look and presto, there's a bunch of Wayne Robert's airports already made and ready for download.OTOH, it's quite a daunting proposition to download and install them all individually. Does anyone know if there is there any place on the net to download the whole collection in one big mongo zip file you could just unzip into your Fly directory, just to save all the manual labo…

I'm considering launching into an Alaska terrascene project. I tend to do such projects in a big way, ending up with 100 Gb + of sceneries.I'm not sure the default textures seem quite right for Alaska, to capture the proper feel. Has anyone done this, and do you have any recommendations of texture sets to use?

The default download locations in Terrascene have data for most of CONUS, but they don't seem to have much for Alaska, so you don't get good elevation detail and roads and stuff.Has anyone found alternate download sites that can be entered into TS which provide good data for Alaska?madmax

Just thought I'd put a plug in for CH's throttle quadrant. Six levers that can be configured any way you want. Note: when you pull the levers to their detents and then back behind the detents they activate buttons, when you go to assign the axes you have to make sure that the levers are in a centered position otherwise the assignment menu will pick up the buttons being pushed and try to assign them (makes for an interesting first flight!). The full travel is utilized in Fly!II so you cannot assign reverse thrust as can be done in MS land... not a big deal, just assign the switch below to toggle reverse and wa la.Makes flying all of the twins (ROTW's Seneca being a favo…
