The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

I've used 64x64 tiles 16 bit and changed the 64-512 render ini line to 3000, since my 256 meg video card can handle it. Unfortunately, there seems to be a limit that is closely tied to the medium scenery setting. If this setting is above 7-10 miles, in external view FLY2 slows down unacceptably. Much of this problem is caused by the higher polycount of an external model, but unfortunately we cannot discount this when trying to get the right balance. Ata medium scenery setting of 10 and under, Autogen keeps things flowing very nicely. I will try using more models and see what things look like. I just wanted to warn some of you to keep an eye on you medium scenery settings…

In Fly II, is there any way to get rid of a very 'jagged' appearance of straight lines in the fore-ground ... such as runway edges when taxiing. At times what should be solid runway edge lines appear as a row of 'dashes'. My video card is an ASUS V9280 with 128mb on board RAM in a Pentium 2.4 Ghz with 512mb RAM.

I would like to thank those great and talented people at ROTW for creating the Seneca Five N95D.As you know I am the real world Pilot of this aircraft and it is amazing to see the aircraft alive in my PC :-)I can take very little credit for this creation as I have recently taken up a busy real world job flying a 2 year old Citation Bravo. This and my Seneca obligations have meant that I have had little time to spend advising ROTW.The Bravo has gone for maintenance so I should have a few weeks to spend enjoying the Fly! seneca.Again many thanks and I will be glad to answer any questions that anyone needs on flying this ship of the skiesPeter

Why can't we look at autogen and see if someone can add more features to it? I like the idea of populating the scenery as I fly.tony

Hi, Leen. As you can see from the pic, the transparent windshield is not too attractive. I don't remember how to create an opaque look. Can you advice? thanks.tony

As in real life, taxiing in a taildragger is daunting. I've created a view that would be used exclusively for taxiing on the ground. Let me know what you think. The ground visibility can be increased by simply pressing the view key, and I thought the engine and part of the panel would add some perspective.tony

Currently, the SB key press is the same as the "new door" keypress. I lost a couple of passengers and my laptop while over the Sierras and didn't realize these keypresses are the same. ;-)tony

Hey,I'm absolutely loving flying this beauty. Check out the screenshots over at http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/DC...mID8/46832.htmlIn all this excitement I haven't been able to locate the Nav switch to toggle between Nav1 and GPS for the HSI and autopilot. Manual doesn't list it either (unless I';m blind!).Anyone know where it is?Zane

Just can't use it with a mac :-( I know ROTW has always been so acomidating to us mac users ( thanks guys;-) ) and if anyone has the time, it would be nice to have! Thanks once again!! :-wave

From the pics, you can see that there are small details, mostly having to do with 3d max and my learning as I go. I've worked some more on the panel, which will be standard FLY2 but with some modifications so that it creates the illusion of a unique panel. The flight model is getting better, and I spent a lot of time to make sure that when you fly it, you feel the weight of a vintage plane. Remember that it will be an alpha, but I think a decent alpha.tony

Hi Ken, and everyoneAs promised here is a pic of the 737-800 series Panel Ive just started. The interior graphics are almost complete so the next step is to get it into Fly and start work on the Pbg's.As you can see the picture attached is very low resolution and reduced due to the 125k upload limit. I'll post some 100% pics once I make a bit of progress.RegardsJohnhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/92624.jpg

First off, I want to say once again I love this thing. Now I'm not sure if the TBM or the Seneca V is my favorite. Anyway, does anyone know where I can find the "V" speeds and other procedural information on this. I like to fly correctly and haven't been able to find any on the net that are not purchase check lists. I also would like to know what the approch speed should be. I have been playing around and an 80 knot approch has been working pretty well. Also, not sure if this is a bug or something I am doing wrong. If I take a short flight, land and shut her down, when I go to restart the engine start buttons don't work. If I load up another aircraft and switch back…

It's a very good new in the forum. I often fly Simvol planes and now there is another complete one. Unfortunately it didn't work on my environment and I have questions. In the installation instructions I found two files that doesn't exists in the package I have downloaded, AIRPVMAG.pod and rotw_flp.sit. I wonder if the problem I'm experiencing is related to these two files. Fly crashes even before it shows the configuration screen.Does any one can help me? ThanksJJLobo

It's simply amazing to see how Richard Harvey had it right. FLY2 has so much potential, and the SEneca and everyone who worked on it have proven it. The flight model, the feel, the graphics...., simply amazing.tony

I havent used used my FLY!II sim since sometime after the PMDG 777 add-on. I always loved the sim over MSFS, but its incomplete status left a sour taste in my mouth. Since then I've tried both MSFS 2002 and 2004 and found myself still disappointed in the flight models compared to FLY!II(my biggest gripe is the touch down model on MSFS...too easy and simplified).Well I've started flight school and Im finding myself wanting to get back into flight sims. I still have MSFS 2004, but Im still longing for my PMDG 777 add-on(MSFS add-ons are supposedly plagued by the codes easy/simplified landing and flight modeled still). Im curious to know if and how FLY!II as perhaps been…
