Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

  4. Q1)When I start a flight after completing the flight planner and then acknowledging the Alert: 'If this is an IFR flight...'my flight planner checklist screen reappears and then the IFR Alert screen appears again. In other words both have to be mouse clicked twice. Is this normal?Q2) SFO and OAK are not in the list of airports for California in the Flight Planner. I have to manually enter SFO and OAK and then do the search. How can I enter SFO and OAK into the flight Planner list of airports for California? I presume other airports for other countries can also be entered eg France. Thanks for the answers,:-beerchug

Hi folks,Yesterday I found a very interesting camera.dll on the Simvol pages. It`s a new camera DLL , called MoveCamera V1.0.dll. (MovingCamera V10.zip by Laurent Claudet -ROTW)After installing the dll, we have a brand new experience in FLY.The camera , of wich position towards the airplane is adjustable, follows the plane. It`s completely different from the default Fly-by camera.(this Moving Camera does NOT replace the default fly-by camera, it`s extra)With the normal fly-by camera we see the plane in a fly-by wich repeats itselves after a few seconds. The Moving Camera follows the plane endlessly in it`s fly-by.From a fixed position the camera follows the plane flying-by ,…

Hi, I've been trying for days to get some of the small GA/Glider airfields (Vinon, Ales etc) from Simvol installed, but they just dont show up in the airport locator.I'm assuming they should appear under France?I have scoured the simvol site for clues and have installed everything mentioned in the readmes and on the Simvol essential files page.I've got terrains to work, and the PA-19 and 28, and the gliders...Any clues before I attempt to inflict my execrable french on the simvol forum?Cheers, Keith

Are any of you Fly!ers attending the AVSIM conference in Denver this September? I live here in Denver and was thinking it might be fun for a few of us in this group to go flying together if anyone else will be out here. I have a 2004 Skyhawk SP that I keep at an airport in the Denver area (I've attached a photo). It might be fun to take a tour.I haven't done a lot of posting on the forum lately, but I've been an avid fan of Fly! from the beginning and in many ways this community has encouraged me in my efforts to get my pilot license. I'm now working on my instrument rating, and my instructor often speaks of how good my "touch" is when flying on instruments. I attrib…

Here is another model, a block of houses I have modelled for viewing while landing at Liverpool. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/83356.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/83357.jpgYou will be able to see them when taxing to the GA hold. They are Just like what I used to live in as a child. I took the design from Paul McCartneys old house nearby.I was wondering what is the norm for models of this size???Vertex count is 210, poly count 104. On my computer it has no effect on performance. So I realy need to know to get a better idea.Thankyou, Steve. My Websitehttp://www.wrexhamspace.orghttp://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/ysomdesign/banner.jpg

Hi Guys,I bought a new videocard (FX5900) and installed the last Nvidia drivers with Edimensional glasses (great experience, I can tell you! :9). For my surprise, landing lights are gone so I tried several setups and finally discovered that if I change the startup screen to Direct X8 with no T&L effects, they will back again. At least I think it's better lost some T&L effects than Fly! at night with no lights, don't you think? ;)Just a hint for all FX owners that would like to install new Nvidia drivers and don't want to lose Fly!'s II landing lights.PS: I lost aircraft shadows too. So I disabled shadows option on menu and got better performance.Hope it helps,Keyt…

Anyone know what this is for? Finally can someone please explain what the TRIM Failed annunciator means. When is it displayed and what failure does it notify you of.Any help would be grately appreciated.Cheers John
