The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

I found the time to finish this project. I live here and now I can fly over my city. I hope you will enjoy flying over too. It's possible to pilot a plane across about 100Km. The scenery has a night texture an a smooth gradient between the waters. I am testing it and I think to release it during the week end. So you will know Trieste (LIPQ), a nice seaside city 150 km far from venice.RegardsGiorgio Gnesda PS: Just some pics to see it

Does anyone know what the 512 and 512_565 texture slots are for?Tried tweaking mine and found that FlyII wouldn't allow a value for 512 to be less than 8 (it automatically corrected it back) and 512_565 can be 0.:-beerchug

It was a rainy day today in New England, just what an old Vintage lady needs for her first cross country flight. Before today, the test flights were around the airport, but today was her maiden flight--to see if there were some anomalies on long flights. The takeoff was gentle, and in the clouds I had to do real IFR flying, without the autopilot. This plane feels like what the ones from the 1930' felt. the 3d model is very, very close to finished. Texturing a model is very difficult, and so the many iterations. My hope is to release it before my trip to Africa, on December 15th. tony

Clearly, the reason for taking such a long time for my first full model is that 3d max is a program that requires a great deal of patience and work. FLY2 also has its challenges. But I can say that once the first model is completed, the feeling of satisfaction is wonderful. I've learned so much , and this will make the next model easier and faster to develop.I consider this an Alpha release, in that the panel will be taken from an existing FLY2 panel, but with some changes so as to create the illusion of a different panel. This, I hope, will change in the beta version. These projects simply require a lot of time as well as the help of so many woderful FLYers out there, wit…

Hi All, I don't know if anyone else has this phenonema happen to them, but when I am parked doing my flight prep I notice that the Lat. Lon. for my plane are perfectly still before I start the APU. But after it is running the Lat. Lon. both start counting, with the consequence that when the 757 is parked at an airport gate you have catastrophic damage & see from the ouside camara that you have all of a sudden managed to get the nose wheel on top of the gate!!!Any idea's? Thanks Desmond

Hi all-An update to my Bergen Flesland ENBR scenery can now be found in the Library:http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=56359The pod had a double-up of Biber`s models and are cleaned up. I have also given a new, see-through roof texture to the terminal, new numbering to the gates, a new tower texture, and added a new GA hangar.Plus I have heavily reduced vertices on my 3D models :+ Enjoy!http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/josve/andrew/bergen2.jpg

Gday fellahs! I would imagine no one here knows me despite the fact I have been enjoying your addon work for years now with Fly!2. I have some questions regarding the Dauphin. It is absolutely of excellent quality and I was taken completely by surprise to fnd it! My (minor and petty I know) problem is that the the rotor disk moves to the wrong axis of my bodgy Microsoft Precision 2 , but it flies to the right axis (ie: push forward, rotors move to effect a left bank but it noses down instead). Can I change this myself easily? Very minor I know, but I would like to fix it. Thanks for listening and thanks for the excellent work on the Dauphin, F2FD. Very nice ;)Russki Bear

If you have a fast internet access and wish to visit some french places, I've made 3 photo sceneries available on SIMVOL.Each of them cover a whole globe tile and are a mix of NIMA black & white ortho photo (10 m/p) Landsat7 color (28.5 m/p) and include also SRTM elevations with 8x8 and 50 feet settings during importation. At the moment, you will find Paris tile 1-167, Lyon tile 3-164, Clermont-Ferrand tile 2-164 (~300 MB each). More to come.Of course, regarding the various quality of available pictures, it's not perfect, even if I tried to correct pictures differences and holes ...Enjoy

The Canadian Localizer frequencies that were with Fly 2K do not appear to be installed in Fly II. I have downloaded file ilscan3.zip and extracted the files into FlyII/Database directory and have Fly.ini "SearchPodFilesFirst=0". The localizer freqs do not appear when I bring up the airport info screen. Am I doing something wrong here? .... or does that zip file not work with patch 240?

Hi all,I made some improvements (?) in the dll code and modified the altitude flag in the templates files in order to have several hide altitude levels. Small objects like single houses, barns and things that size... are really small (and useless) above some thousand feet. You can then divide the main ini altitude with a value for every rendered object.Other improvements are related to the management of huge files or huge templates for tile textures. Maybe you won't notice the difference right now but I tested it with huge files and the benefit is real... I also put a template for the TERRAIN_FARM_USA_GREEN with a lot of Steve's trees placed at fixed positions. If you tak…

HiToday I uploaded my "Styria South East" Scenery, which covers the area between Graz (LOXG) und Fuerstenfeld (LOGF).Most of the shapefiles are drawn by hand using FGIS, so they are not 100% perfect.enjoyHarald

First the fatal one:With the Seneca files (specifically Glass_Cockpit_1-v1.4.dll) in place Fly! doesn't start. Once the screeen has flooded red I get a couple of minutes of HDD activity then the following message:Fatal error caused by .DLL "modulesplGlass_Cockpit_1-v1.4.dll" in DLLStartSituation.Commenting out the dll in question removes this error. I've been through the readme a couple of times and everything appears to be in the correct place. I've downloaded the glass cockpit update as well.Any clues?Secondly, the new dynparts.txt file appears to have dropped information for other aircraft apart from the P51. Is there a complete version of this file available.RegardsAn…

Hi all,I prepared a template scengen file with new Steve's trees. I think the best rendering result is with forests even though single trees are good for farm areas ... and palms for tropics, eh, eh !I also noticed that I was having hard time work with all the templates scengen files to test : copy, past, rename, put in data folder, save previous one, add trees, remove them, etc ...I then add to the dll a button to select a scengen template file on the fly. This way, test are made easy to do, but it also allows several scengen templates files in the data folder and choose one according to the mood, the area of interest (we can have USA files, EU files etc and this saves f…

Hi allI am using EASYTRACE to convert scanned maps into shapefiles and MICRODEM to join them into 1 big file for Terrascene. This process is rather fast. But I am not happy with the result, because the shapefiles have rather sharp corners. So I use FGIS to add manually more points and in this way to smoothen the curves. This takes really a lot of time.So does anybody know a freeware tool to automate this smoothening? It would really speed up things.Thank youHarald

Hi guys, Im pleased to let you know I have nearly completed a tutorial on how to make a Tree with 3DS Max and Photoshop. You can follow along with me on every move with your mouse, creating the model, importing into Fly2 and making the unwanted bits vanish. If I had any secrets all will be revealed :-eek This method then can be used to the full with making people, bridges, towers ... sheep?? Sheep? anyway check out the F2FDesign website soon. The tutorial is in PDF format. After that I will make a building tutorial ;-) http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96678.jpg SteveMy Websitehttp://www.wrexhamspace.orghttp://www.wrexhamspace.org/Steves%20Card.jpg
