The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

.. the name of the fellow who developed the very first aircraft add-on for the very first version of FLY!. I think it was a 757 and it was a freeware. The forum archives don't go far enough in time for me to find out nor his aircraft is still in the library.Michael J.

I don't know if it's my system, but there's a small, pink line appearing on the windshield of the Socata. It appears in all views, except in the larger instrument panel. This is some work of art! It's the first plane I can manually fly IFR and not over control.tony

Hello dear friends,Here at Fly.Simvol-ROTW, we often receive messages from new potential users who would like to buy a copy of Fly!II.When they are Windows users, we send them on the websites practising auctions sales, and they often get there what they are looking for.But for Mac Users, it seems quite impossible to find copies for sale...Do you have an idea about the best way to find ancient users of Fly!II on Mac, who would accept to sell their original copy? If so, we could bring them to contact with buyers, for instance by creating a special forum dedicated to these contacts...Thanks in advance for your suggestions :-)

Hi there,Just to let you know that I've manged to get the 737 panel up and running in FlyII and its coming along quite nicely, just completed the Engine instrument displays, and are now in the process of making some more needle files and pbg's. I'll probably have some better pics in a week or so, once I'm able to tidy things up a bit.Anyhow I thought you maybe able to get a feel of what to come, as well as completely new B737 flight dynamics and engine specs. Thanks again for your interest EarlTake care John

Hi folks,I'm back to FLY! since I used Fly2K for a time and amazed about the development of the simulation. Started with the DVD of the ROTW I have a lot of fun flying in FRance. So I want to make my home region a little more attractive and realistic, because Germany is very poor in Fly. Beginning with Danieles easy to use tutorial of converting srtm to ras-files(thanks Daniele) i want to make some elevations first. But the DEMFILEViewer, that is needed to convert the TGA-Files to ras seemed to be no longer available. The side www.asrux.com/fly/gtopo30.html is down and i can't find any other page to download the program. Please, tell me, where i can get the program!Best r…

G'day all,I was doing a shakedown flight from Sydney to Canberra and made a discovery (for me :-) - but then I'm always the last to know :-lol ) that ADF auto tune in the vector map actually works. I don't know if it was corrected in the final patch or if in fact it was ever a bug at all?. I always thought it was a bug. When the cessna installs, at start up the ADF radio defaults to displaying the active frequency and the elapsed time. Auto tune tunes the standby ADF frequency so when you auto tune there is no visible sign of anything happening. However if you then select standby frequency the auto tuned frequency is displayed and if you then select transfer it becomes …

With the proliferation of aircraft for MSFS in the payware arena, time to throw out some ideas once again:I for one would dearly love to see a decent C-130 model... regular and ski-equipped. The latter I can provide picutres of, or direct one's attention to the AlphaSim C130 package containing the Operation Deep Freeze ski-equipped LC-130 (back in my Operation Deep Freeze day (1978-1980) it was an LC-130R model).Hoping Eddie Souter still plans on releasing his C-152 as well!Feel free to add to this list / thread! Thanks!Ken Wood :-sun1http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/dfdg/bannernewkw.jpgGateway 700X; Intel P4 2.4GHz; 512MB RAM; NVIDIA Ti4200 4X AGP 128MB; SB Audigy; Thrust…

Hi there all,FYI the TB10 will ship in two versions : a simple version with an auto tab, that is a sort of auto trim coupled to the yoke, and a version with two coupled ROTW_350 navigation displays in a plain overhead view, not very realistic but handy to place those big gauges ... you'll have to choose one of these versions. Cheers, laurentC (rotw)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/146711.gif

Hi at all, after installing EGLL and Gatwick scenery yesterday everytime I used the flight planner to generate a route it crashed to the desktop.Searching avsim I found out it has to do with the ATSRoute.pod. I replaced it today with the original pod and now flight planner works with no probs but I suppose with outdated data.My questions:Does custom scenery do changes to the ATSRoute.pod even when it comes wihtout dex.files for the databases? What exactly is stored in ATSroute.pod? Thanks

Wow, it's been a loooong time since I've peeked in here. I just can't stand the MS FS2004 scenery blurries anymore, and would like to explore some of the other flight sims options lingering around. Can someone please tell me how the VFR flying is? Specifically, what is the scenery quality around 1D2 airport, Canton-Plymouth-Mettetal Airport located in Plymouth, Michigan? Details here: http://www.airnav.com/airport/1D2 I know that Randall Rocke in the past was so kind as to actually make this airport specifically, but do you get "photo realistic" textures/scenery surrounding it? What does it look like today with any scenery enhancements? Would someone be so kind as…

Hi guys,A new bridge is born in the "Skunk Works". You can take a peek at it if you check my profile, site -> Fly II -> Projects. Check the "newstuff" pic. I am not much happy with my previous "Bridge Pack 1" that you can find in the library, hence the reason to make a new one. If any of you need it, I can tailor-make a new bridge pack. If you want English/American road markings...just send me a 256x256 .tga pic with the road texture, and I will include all the versions. :-scatter

Just a note to all who use TerraScene...I was able to access and freely download DEM (7.5 and 15 meter datasets) from the following link: http://www.geocomm.com/You need to create a login account (free) to download files. Then click on the 'GIS Data' tab along the top of the web page. I clicked on the USGS DEM's link under 'TOPICS' on the left side of the web page and eventually was able to see DEM's, DLG's, and LULC's - everything I needed to get TerreScene up and running again. (A 'Premium' account for the above link would cost but is more geared for businesses needing the data on a more frequent basis than most Flight Simmers.)Also, here is a link to the USGS SDTS…

Hello all,I'm wondering if anyone is running Fly! II with an on-board GeForce6100 Video Accelerator chip. Here's the system:Athlon64 3200+(L2 Cache 512KB)GeForce6100 Chipset (Micro ATX Motherboard)1 GB Memory (DDR SDRAM / Dual Channel)160GB Hard Disk (7200rpm)I'm considering buying the above. At the moment I'm using a GeForce 3 Video graphics card on a Pentium 4 (2.4 GHz) and only 256 Mb memory. Fly runs at 25 fps.Is the GeForce6100 Video Accelerator chip built on the motherboard better than my present GeForce 3? Any comments?Danny

I would like to request these 2 to go with my Adventure here in the Avsim library. You do the greatest airport work! Thanks for all the ones you've already done!Earl
