Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Hi all:Has anyone been able to get the stopwatch function of any digital clocks to work. The nearest elapsed timer that would seem to work is on the Bell 407, but it causes Fly II to crash!Cheers,Brian.

G'day Brian,>Let me back off on my last post! I have just read your post to >another thread.... I did not realize I was using the wrong fps info. >Now I have set "allowdebuginfo=1" and get the true frame rate. I >find that this rate does vary with dynamic scenery (with 20 acft and >in a max rate turn = about 9 fps) ... but still does not appear to >change with any of the other settings... it maxes out at about 35 >fps, even with Terrascenery ...or no scenery. At the time you posted this I was blissfully unaware that I had the same problem. However last night I had reason to go into nVidia Centre to change some settings and to my horror found that aft…

Hi All,Does anyone still experience the 4 fps bug in FLY2 when flying in airports with detailed models like ROTW's beautiful airports. Is there a fix for this bug. I have a AMD 64 dual core, ATI x800xl, 2 gig of memory, which I think a decent system.Thankschris_CA

  9. G'day all,This is a bit long but there might be a lesson in here for anyone else upgrading.Well the day finally arrived and after building my new computer system and loading XP-Pro onto it I picked up my copy of the American version of Fly!II and casually slipped it into the DVD rom drive.I just knew it wasn't going to be straight forward. :-) Well Fly! II seemingly installed no hassles but on running the 152-210 all in one patch I was greeted with the familiar "old file found with same name ..." error message. Ha!! mute the midi and uninstall and try again; dang! it: same result :-) This time uninstalled Fly! II and copied the Fly!II installation CD to my WD Raptor ha…

  14. Hi guys,Now that I have your attention. I can't believe it either! But it is true!My old rig came down with a bug which turned out to be a video driver issue. But at the time, I needed a computer to work emails etc for business. My old rig wasn't coming around and I had little time to devote to repair, so I bought an Acer AST690-UP925A. It has a 935 D core duo 3.2G processor, 1G RAM, Intel 946 3000GMA on board graphics, on board sound from Realtech and Vista Home Premium. Well, once I got through the important business, I decided to try FS-x. UNBELIEVABLE! It works! OK, not as well as one of the monster machines, but I didn't expect it to fly at all, with any set…

Hi everyone,I had (and I still have !!!) a 17" CRT monitor and I bought a month ago a LG 19" LCD monitor, bigger, best than my CRT but I have some troubles with Fly! II since most of its panels work with a resolution of 1024x768. The problem is that I set my resolution up to 1280x1024. Fly! II is beautiful with that resolution but the panels are cut at the bottom. If I set a resolution of 1024x768, the panels are good but the fonts (menu toolbar, windows, ...) are bold and there are aliasing.People who have Fly! II, what monitor do you have and with which resolution do you run Fly! II ? Please tell me more about it. Tips are welcome.:-)Have a nice day.;-)Damien - LFQQ.htt…

  25. Hi Everyone.I was just wondering if anyone can give an explanation as to what causes that Metallic/Shiny image on the FLY aircraft?Ive attached a picture of a couple of Delta Repaints on Giogios B737 and MD82 Aircraft, and as you can see on the B737 (as of ALL FLY aircrft) I have this Metallic/Shiny finish..............but for some unknown reason the MD82 repaint is a nice matt finish and the overall repaint is much more realisic. (Hope you can see the difference in the attachment)Ive compared the Model files and Lod files of both aircraft and I can't see any difference in them. Just curious as to what part of the FLY program effects this.Or perhaps its something Giorgi…
