The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

I am working in a scenery photo-realistic and is a hard work for a small part of the world. I believe that the future of the simulation is googleearth like scenery in Fly. In Fsx and X-plane already it is possible. The project is called TILEPROXY. The result is spectacular. You can see videos:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDvWU-DVARk Many regards FonchyFonchy/2009

Hello, I am looking for repaints of PMDG's 777 and was wondering if anyone had PMDG's official repaints (they made a slew of repaints including Cathay Pacific) or the American Airlines repaint by Grant Millikan. The AVSIM file library doesn't have his repaint available at the moment.... Robert Williamson

Hello, does anyone know how to change the splash screen? (the loading screen with the Bell 407 flying in front of a canyon). Is there a special graphics tool that you use? I tried editing the splash.pbm file in the /art directory, and Adobe Photoshop couldn't load it. Robert W

Hello, I recently reinstalled Fly! II (I still think it has the best aircraft panels of any sim) and I have been trying to get Squawkbox 3.24 working with multiplayer. I am having a problem where Squawkbox constantly crashes whenever I try to run multiplayer mode at 5 nm radius. I did check the AI aircraft listing and downloaded and installed all of the required aircraft with the exception of the Lufthansa/Air One 737. The zip file for it on AVSIM is corrupt... I ended up modifying some of the .sbx files that used the above mentioned 737 to different .nfo files. Everything else in the sim works great, so I don't think it is config error. I can run 3.24 just fine…

Hi there all,We're not yet ready to get involved in a formal communication nor we are ready with the code that needs some tidy up before any public release (although it is since the very beginning in the sourceforge.net site) so I just post here some images or videos (like the one of the link below) to let you see what's FL looks like in some areas ...http://balloon.flightsims.perso.cegetel.ne...acy/takeoff.wmvIn the first part of this tiny video (2Mb ca) you can see red lines (and maybe little perpendicular green lines) above the wings and the elevator that are used to materialize the lift and drag vectors generated by the WNG file. This feature that can be toggled wit…

Well, it looks like I am not the only one returning to Fly!. I used to be an avid (and dedicated) Fly!er spending most of my spare time buzzing around the world. But as hardware moved on I was lured by the flashier baubles of the competition and slowly Fly! slipped out of my life. But I was not satisfied, the new sims gave better eye candy but I found that I spent more time searching out addons, or sitting looking at spot view of my pretty new aircraft. But did I actually Fly anywhere? So now, with the advent of lower powered netbooks I have come back to Fly! and the old bug has hit, almost instantly. Why did I ever leave? So I am back, re-acquainting myself with the for…

While we wait hopefully for Fly Legacy, here is a model you may wish to fly. Since uploads to the AVSIM File Library are presently not available, here is a link to download this model:http://www.storewith.com/account/imageview...x?fileid=491874Try Formation flying with dynamic scenery aircraft. Also this model has the ROTW Navigational Map Display with Collision Avoidance - this is of great help in joining up for formation flying, as well as for flying instrument procedures. Try it with C4TO clearances. A repeat of a cockpit checklist for the Hawker is also included. If someone can tell me how to improve the definition of the dynamic scenery aircraft your help would…

I purchased my copy of Fly!II back when it was fairly new, but got involved with other things and never really gave it a good wringing out. I found it the other day whilesorting through some old software for a flightsim that would run on my single core intel/vista_home laptop. (flightsim 2k was the only MS version that would run at a decent speed, but crapped out too often.)I installed Fly!II, applied the patches and was very pleasantly surprised with the results. I flew for several hours the next few days, testing all of the stock flight models, and had zero program stability issues. As my enthusiasm grew, I decided to try a few addon planes, resulting in the old "subsy…

Hello, has anyone used voice in squawkbox? I cannot transmit voice with Roger Wilco 1.4.1.6. on Vatsim. My microphone works in Roger Wilco, but no one can hear me on Vatsim. I have ports 3290 and 3728 opened in my firewall (voice ports used by Vatsim). I noticed in the Squawkbox docs, that Advanced Voice Client also worked with Vatsim, yet I cannot find it anywhere. Anyone out there still use AVC and would willing to send me a copy? Robert Williamson

I have been following recent discussions on FLY! Legacy and all the previous releases of FLY and just received shipment of FLY! and FLY 2K through Ebay to give it another shot. It is either bad luck that something has corrupted both CDs or I am too dumb to get the compatibility issue together. I tried to run in compatibility with MS98, 95 etc... NothingUpon loading the CD the auto-run does absolutely nothing. My next step was, I explore the folder and try to manually start the installation, but no action. Please help if anyone has an idea of this issue.V/rKeith

Hi all, I seem to be really into formation flying with dynamic acft these days! Here is a model that you might want to try. It is an adaptation of Roberto Vigetti's F-16, but with changed flight instruments - better for instrument flying, and has the ROTW glass-panel nav/TCAS display installed, which makes formation join-ups much easier. I have added nine extra views for looking around in formation work, which along with the pretty good flight dynamics and handling makes it a better formation model than the Hawker. In fact it flies and lands much better than the Hawker - though being a fighter it is much more sensitive on the controls.Flight using the autopilot i…

When I run a search for waypoints to add to a route, using the flight planner, the result often is that the waypoint is not found. Also it is not displayed on the route map in Flight Planner. However, when looking into the Waypoint.pod, using VolEdit! or Excel, the waypoint is in fact in the .pod/.dbf. But Fly! does not find it. This seems to be a problem with indexing of the .pod by Fly! II ?Does anyone know how to rebuild the natural order of the waypoints in the pod so that waypoints are in unique key alphabetical order, and they are also in the same order as the record numbers? This would mean a new index file also (.dbi?) ?I am using the excellent glass_cockpit …

I was looking at my IE Favorites and saw the AVSIM link, so thought I would check it out. It has been many years since I visited the site. Also many years since I played FlyII. I had FlyII on a HD that died, so I don't even know if I have a backup copy.So that I can be brought up to date, what is Fly Legacy? Also, is there a place to download the FlyII patches in the event that I find my program CD?My computer has the Nvidia on-board graphics, a 6150. Will FlyII run well with this? If not, what is a good current video card to get? As best as can remember, the ATI cards had issues with Fly. My cpu is Athlon 64 dual core with plenty of memory, and XP.Thanks,Kline

Hi, I have installed the GPS Navigation Display by T.J. & Laurent Claudet (ROTW_350_V-3.zip) in the Hawker, but while mostly it works very well, I have a problem with waypoints not showing. Can someone help my find a solution? All waypoints are shown for the departure airport, but after about 60 -70 miles, particularly when flying east, some waypoints are missing. When arriving at destination it seems again that while waypoints the west of the arrival airport appear on screen, most, but not all, of those to the east are not shown. If the arrival airport is, in a new flight, made the departure field, all waypoints appear.I have tried making a very small waypoint.po…
