The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

A Moment of your timeI have been recently running Fly2 on a Sempron AMD processor with Windows XP and it worked fine, I"ve now upgraded to one of newer series quad core and Geofoce 9600 GT and when I try to run Fly2 it boots up to the first screen and thats it....nuthin else. I'm sure theres a tread somewhere in the forum that explains what to do but I haven't come across it and I'm sure there's a simple solution. Any direction would be much appreciated.

While I was browsing for some unrelated 3D stuff, I happened across a message on a forum announcing that Caligari was releasing trueSpace 7.6 for free. Not sure what all in a "catch" there is, but if interested, here is a link I was directed to to get it:http://cart1.caligari.com/web/Truespacemainreg.aspxI doubt any of our utility scripts will work with it, but hey - always worth checking out, yes? I got the main file (about 130mb), the PDF manual (30 or so MB) and video tutorials (132MB). To show how far behind on things I've gotten - I didn't even know M$ bought out Caligari!!!Oh, well... :-rollKen Wood :-sun1Gateway 700X; Intel P4 2.4GHz; 512MB RAM; NVIDIA Ti4200 4X A…

As we are approaching the five year, nine month time-frame, I just finished going through the pinned posts at the top of the forum. Namely those from Rich H. , Brendan G. , Tom A. and Tara H. As this was (for those of us in the USA) Pearl Harbor Day (least when I started reading the posts! :( ) - I was reminded of how close-knit our Fly! family is and just what this Forum and the legacy Rich left us with means. Reading Rich's final post - Tara and Brendan's notification posts - the community's responses (and responses from other AVSIM members who didn't even use Fly! series) - just what an impact Rich had on the flight sim community as a whole. Over five years and once a…

Hello everyone.Just a heads up for people that may be looking for info / compatibility of Fly!II and Vista 64. It runs fine on a Q6600, ATI, and Vista 64. No install needed, I just moved all the files / Folder to a new system Folder and run the EXE.It is still the best, most fluid, sim to date. I only hope someone can get the Source and continue on. TV

G'day all,My trustee old ThrustMaster afterburner II joystick has finally gone belly up on the rudder control. Very inconveniently as I am in the middle of flight tuning my latest creation. Does anyone know if the Saitek control yoke and quadrant controls are compatible with Fly II. Alternatively what other option can you suggest? Thanks for your help.Cheers,Roger

Hi allI have recently tried to re-install the beloved Fly!2 only to find out that installation will fail upon inserting CD #2. There seems to be a single compressend archive on it called cab2.zip or something similar but I cannot open nor install it. I know I am asking a lot here but if anybody could upload this file somewhere for me I would be very grateful indeed.Prion

G'day all, Ever noticed how murky the L/H wing view is from the rear pax seat? Nobody has mentioned it but it sure bugs me. In the rush to get the aircraft into service the apprentice used a sheet of commercial grade Perspex to make the window :-) This mod is a new window made of the good stuff - aviation grade specification Perspex.copy the attached file Beaver.cam to the World folder. Thats it, job done!. Enjoy the brighter view. Don't forget your sunglasses :-cool In case you are reading this and the file attachment period has time expired you can make it a DIY project.Using PODVIEW,(in TOOLS folder), extract the file Beaver.cam from the aircraft pod file into the…

Hello,I was wondering if anyone has heard any news on the progress of Fly! Legacy? And also I was wondering what format it will run on?I'm guessing that it is written in opensource format, so will it run on Linux? And will it be ported to run on XP and Mac OSX or OSXI?Will it be a heavy application requiring a lot of computer resources? I am really looking forward to it. It would sure be cool if Rob Young could contribute a Learjet for it.Any screen shots from Fly! Legacy yet???Thank you in advance to all of the Fly! Legacy developers, your efforts are very much appreciated!!

I am having a strange problem. I have Terrascene and TerraModels in use, and when I load a scenario flight-plan sometimes I am on the ramp and can see hangars etc, but most times I am in the middle of the airfield with nothing but grass around ... no taxiways etc. It seems random as to whether the aircraft is initially positioned in the infield or on the ramp.Has anyone had this problem and found a solution? If I use the flight planner, starting from the ramp, without saving the scenario, everything works just fine.Brian

Couple of days ago I stumbled across a used copy of the original Fly! in a local game store for only 3 bucks. Since it came with a nice thick manual I picked it up and loaded it on my laptop. I must say I am very impressed with the panels and systems modeling! Being an avid MSFS simmer for years, I couldn't believe I totally over looked this series ten years ago! I do have some questions however:1. What exactly is the difference between Fly! and Fly!2k? I patched my copy to 1.01.88, does this bring it up to the Fly!2k level?2. Is there a guide to editing the fly.ini, render.ini, and VCF files? I have some graphic flickering and texture blurriness problems, and I guess I n…

G'DAY ALL,Sorry for the "on again" "off again" "on again" posts but the Library were so super duper efficient. Within 20 minutes of my email requesting deletion of Beaver from the library I received a reply confirming the deletion!!! Hows that for great service. Hats off to the volunteer library managers.Since I already had the new zip all ready to go I have uploaded to the library so it's once more available for download.Download this one; I'm sure you'll find it a huge improvement (cross fingers :-) )Again many apologies for the stuff-up. Cheers,Rogeredited to get post sequence correct.

G'day all,The title says it all.I have requested the Beaver be removed from the library. I stupidly, stupidly, stupidly (I just can't explain it) uploaded the wrong pod. Once the old file is removed I will upload the correct aircraft pod. This will however be in approx 2 to 3 weeks as we are off on holidays to Cook Islands (flying Air New Zealand B737)on Tuesday. I apologise to the forum for any inconvenience.Cheers,Roger

I have tried many settings in Fly.ini in an attempt to make taxiways seen at distances greater than 4 1/2 miles, but without success. Is this a limitation of Fly!II, or is it the way my system is set up? Does anyone have better distances than this?cheers, Brian.

50 people have read my post below and not one reply for some help on getting a new system that will run fly. That`s sad. I guess it was coming. Maybe in time.Qdog

Beta-testing continues on Roger & Company's Beaver, now working with water operations. The float system is working well! Also, note the beautiful night-lighting of the panel, contributed by Bart Simpson. Roger has done some fine work on this aircraft. I'm in the process of testing out its aquatic capabilities right now, but in the meantime, I'm going to attempt to post a video to give the community a little taste. G'day all,Finally finished ( I hope :-) ). Could someone please volunteer to do a small job of beta testing. Nothing fancy, just load and check that the aircraft flies ok and everything works as it should. If you can help then please email me at roger*[email protected] Just remove the star between roger and maz. The pod is 18MB unzipped. I'll zip it up and email it back to you.If all's OK I'll then ask Laurent if he can please make it an amphibian and then upload to the library.Cheers,Roger
