The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Hi Guys,Having chosen an Aircraft, made a Flight Plan, and then teleported to the end of the filed runway............After engine starts and system checks, I then activate the FMS and select NAV (on the left display) and turn the CRS mode Knob to select Waypoint (NAV) so the aircraft can follow the filed Flight Plan. Then after take-off.... at around 1,000 ft , I activate the Auto-Pilot.The Problem is that the NAV button on the Glare panel will NOT let me depress it (Select NAV function) while the A/P is ACTIVE (When the A/P is NOT active the NAV button will depress (select)).1) In any case the Aircraft will NOT follow my Flight Plan2) The Course indicated does …

Hi All, Question: Am I correct in thinking that the Fly! II scenery editor (Scenery editortoolsimport scenery) does not handle USGS 7.5min DEMs?When I try this I get a message "Unable to open DEM file".I am still trying to flatten TerraScene2 terrain for a runway that spans two globe tiles and need to use Flattenator. There is no "floating runway" problem at all with the default Fly! II scenery, just with the detailed TS. There is also a break half-way down the runway that prevents normal t/o and taxi. The built-in Fly Slicer will not fix the problem. Have tried many times! So I want to use Flattenator if it will load. Has anyone experience with Flattenator and 7.5m…

Hi All: I am attempting to change the colour of the mountains in Utah from what appears to be forest green to a more appropriate colour. Can someone give me some guidance on the best way to do this?I have gone into the gentex.pod and using Photoshop have amended the colours of the file Mountains-forest-green.tga and re-podded the gentex.pod. But this change seems to make no difference in Fly! scenery after re-slicing the globe-tile.Am I amending the wrong file, or do I need to put the changed file somewhere else?Brian

Hi All:I have a runway that needs markings added; the white bars at the end of the runway, and white touchdown squares. What is the best way to add these markings to a runway. Also, I have another runway that is now closed. In the blue FlyII pop-up it describes the runway as closed, but it still has runway numbers on it, touchdown squares, and no "X"s. How would I delete the numbers and add the "X"s for a closed runway? I have looked at TerraModels and the Fly scenery editor but they don't appear to have such an editing capability ... am I missing something again?Cheers,Brian.

Hi all. Am I missing a file? When I click on the windsock in the Fly Scenery Editor (Control + E ) I get no response. I am able to place buildings o.k. so the editor is working. If I am missing a file, what is the name of the file? Should it not be in the data folder? At present the only .mlf file I have is factory.mlf. Cheers,Brian.

Dear fellow Fly!ers,A long time ago I purchased Wilco's 737 for Fly! and even kept the confirmation e-mail. A friend of mine was recently promoted to 737-200 Captain and he wants to do some CPT so I recommended Wilco's software. My intention was to send him my original copy (since I no longer use it) and since I couldn't find it, I forwarded my confirmation e-mail to Wilco asking them for a replacement copy (via download). Their answer was that they no longer sell this product nor support it or have it, so they can't replace it.Since I did purchase the original, and I have a confirmation e-mail to support this, would someone be willing to send me a copy of Wilco's 737 alo…

I need to extend a runway by 3600' and I have Terrascene installed which I want to keep. I have no problem extending the runway using VolEdit and DexImport. It all looks great, but when taxiing and taking off, the aircraft is on the runway for the original portion of the runway, but when I transit over the new extension, the plane climbs, because the Terrascene terrain is rising in the area now occupied by the runway extension. According to FAA charts I have the correct field/runway elevations.Any suggestions as to how to flatten the airfield without running into a Terrascene wall at the end of the runway? Brian.

Hello,Wow, this forum must be having some kind of technical problem, this is the fourth time I try to post this.My original Fly!2K installation is giving me problems, won't run at all. I installed it about two years ago, right next to FS98. I flew it fine for about 1500 hours straight, then started flying FS98 more, and had a second licensed installation of Fly!2K on another computer. So haven't flown Fly!2K on that original computer a great deal in recent months. But it was running fine. That computer has been off for the most part for about three weeks as I have been upgrading and overhauling my other computers. I changed monitors on that computer as the previous …

I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, but I don't suppose out of curiosity the Fly!/2K/2 series will run on Linux? Maybe the Mac version? No, ridiculous idea?Maybe on one of the window-esque versions like Wine, or ReactOS?How has Fly! Legacy been going? Will that have a Linux version?

Is anyone familiar with the Riverside Flight Center in Tulsa, OK?I have a contact in India who is planning to take commercial flight training in the U.S. They are considering Riverside as their flight school. I've taken a look at their online descriptions, and it appears they offer accelerated commercial training - even specializing in training international pilots, with a specific emphasis on Indian flight students. This is the first time I've heard of Riverside - I would appreciate any knowledgeable comments about the quality, history, and reputation of the school.

G'day all,I'm intending to update my computer hardware for Fly! II just after Christmas and am doing research into what graphics card to get.Is an nvidia 7600GS 512 Mb PCI-E card any good for Fly!II???I'm a bit sus about it because whilst it does have 512 Mb of on board ram it is only 400 Mhz which is quite slow compared to the blistering speeds of some other cards. Is anyone using this card? Failing that is anyone able to recommend a medium priced good grapic card for Fly! II. ( must be PCI-E not AGP ) Aus$200-$300 price range Cheers,Roger

G'day all, Could anyone who downloaded the Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer (PC or MAC users) please report back to the forum or me privately if you find that the aircraft, when first selected (engines not running), bounces on the tailwheel and then stops bouncing when you start the engines? I cannot reproduce this on my computer. Thanks for helpingCheers,Roger
