Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

I had Fly! II installed on my XP machine.Worked fine. After repair(new motherboard) and new install with all updates I see flickers, mainly in the sky. I tried several display settings, but no result. It seems I am flying in thunderstorms, but the weather is clear. Has someone an idea how to solve this?

After a mediocre 2007, a year in which the total team was questioning in which direction to proceed,in 2008 under the impulse of Laurent Claudet and Jean Sabatier , our main developers, we saw a returnof our team to "The Project", obviously named "FlyLegacy" (short named "Legacy") To be much more precise, we need to remember that Chris Wallace, being the project initiator and depositor, has mentioned on his site from the very project start: "Fly! Legacy is a completely non-commercial endeavor, so there will never be any monetary contribution required to the project."This couldn

LoL.....tell ya what, I just started perusing though this forum and it brought back all my fond memories of my flight simming heydays...., FS2002, still playing all the Janes Combat sims, European Air War, CFS2....man oh man...those were the sim'n days...Fly!/FlyII/Terrascene/Terramodel. Seems like yesterday I had my super fast 430mhz PC with 128 meg of ram, downloading and rendering all the Terrascene stuff....waking up early in the morning, firing up FlyII and the joy of looking out the window in the virtual world and seeing all the roads/rivers/cities where they were supposed to be....kind of brings a tear my my eye. The Fly! series (and FU) were my catalyst to get …

Hi FLYII ers!Wow, it has been a while since I posted here but I have been lurking every now and then. FLYII is still great!I have a problem with jagged edges. I have loaded FLYII onto my new gamer: i7-940, 3G DDR3, Vista 64 SP1, GTX260. Incidentally, I no issues just running the CD to install FLYII and loading the updates to 240. I thought I read where some had problems with this on Vista 64.Of course it sings on this beast but no matter what I do, I have jagged edges as though I have no smoothing. Anti-aliasing doesn't seem to be working even when set to 16x.Anyone have any ideas? Thanks,Earl

Good day all,I need help! My installation of Fly1 II on my desktop would not load; it would hang up with the first screen of the Pilatus showing. I re-installed Fly! II with the same freeze of the initial Pilatus on start. Since the computer has seen a lot of programs loaded and removed over the last couple of years, I did a re-format of C: drive. I installed Windows XP again, and before loading anything else, I loaded Fly! II. I tried to start it. This time the computer froze with a blank - black- screen, and did not even get to display the Pilatus picture. The Task Manager message is always "Fly!II not responding". I removed this copy of Fly! II and re-installe…

I never cease to be amazed when looking through some of the Fly! II sites still around... :( Was looking at some of the Maps available at the ROTW site for France and "Re-discovered" some interesting things one can do with Fly! II and our maps. Had totally forgotten about the Multi-Map function! Am sure there are some other things those wonderful fellows at ROTW have made mention of - just a matter of rummaging through the web-site and taking a good look (yet again!). :( So for some of you somewhat new to Fly! II (via rummage sale purchases), or those of you finding your way back to this terrific Simulator, give ROTW's site another browse through. They have posted a lot …

Greetings all. Used to be an avid Fly!er and forum participant, but then real life took hold, and I haven't done either in around 7-8 years (although I've stopped by Avsim now and then)So I'm wanting to get Fly2 back loaded and I need to ask the typical total-newb questions since I don't remember crap. After loading Fly! on the Hard Drive, what procedures and addons do ya'all suggest? What was the latest patch (and are there any previous patches that I need to load first before the final?)What other addons, aircraft, etc do I need. Sky? Terrasceme? give me the best you all have come up with in the last 8 years!-BrianKOMA

Would like to try using Squawkbox 3.24, in the POTW or peer-to-peer mode, and wish to know is it possible for two members of a POTW session to act as pilot and co-pilot, seeing the same instrument panel live? As if giving instruction in IFR flying. Has anyone done this with Fly! II?Cheers, Brian.

A few months ago I produced some videos while beta-testing Roger's new Beaver. While testing the frame-recording system, I produced a video of a basic IFR flight with the ROTW Piper Seneca V. I saved the video, thinking it may be a good example some day of the beauty of Fly!II and all of the developers and groups that work to keep Fly! alive. For those of you who may be new to Fly!, the Seneca V was a wonderful collaboration of Peter Sidoli (formerly with Real Air Simulations), F2FD, and ROTW (the Rest of the World) group: Parked at Wayne Roberts KRFD. Left cockpit and stack.Outside of this outstanding custom-developed aircraft, this flight was made with the followin…

When I try taxiing using the zoomed in vector map (shift+M, then options/use icons-on then off), (to see which turn to take when there are many taxi turns - this is in the USA) I find that the acft representation is almost always 150 to 200 feet east of where it should be on the zoomed vector map taxiway/runway.... If I look forward over the instrument panel I am on the taxiway/runway center-line. Does anyone know how to correct this error I have which seems to occur all over the continental U.S. ?Best wishes to all in the Fly! forum for the festive season.Brian.

A new "old" Hawker panel and model (HAWKR605.zip) is now in the AVSIM file library. I have uploaded a round dial pilot's panel that somewhat represents a Hawker 600/700 Series panel. It is primarily meant for practising manual instrument approach flying in a jet aircraft. Included are GPS and autopilot on the main instrument panel for those wanting to use updated navigation aids. Enjoy.Cheers, Brian.

Merry Christmas everyone! If you haven't given yourself an extra Christmas gift by downloading Brian's Hawker modified panel, you're missing a treat. This isn't just a panel, but a new aircraft/panel/repaint.I had the pleasure of running some test flights on this aircraft while Brian was fine-tuning it. Here's a shot of a portion of the finished panel mod:Outside of the obvious mechanical gauges of an earlier version, he's added some great extras: Increased ground steering response Digital readouts have been added for N1 and the Ventral Tank Com, Nav, ADF, & Transponder single modules with standby Transponder has Mode C KLN89 GPS Here's a slide-show from one of …

I recently decided I'd try and install Fly!II again. Unfortunately, now that it's installed, I only get a blank screen when it loads. If I ALT-TAB out I see the start-up screen flash just before the focus changes. If I go back in, it's just a blank screen. It seems to have defaulted to 640x480 and my monitor and graphics card do not support anything under 800x600 and I think this may be the issue. Is there a way to set resolution in one of the .ini files?
