Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

After doing various jobs in scenery to Fly and have tested the potential of Tileproxy (software to fly with Google-earth scenery, Yahoomaps, etc.) I think that if you could fly operating in Legacy, would conclude work on scenery. You can see in the following link, which makes the transition tile proxy in the coastline, still visible the seabed, and bringing more reality to the scenery. Tileproxy run on FSx and X-PlaneI have tried something, but my few programming skills have not given me no par result. Many Regards Fonchy

Hi there,I have been doing some background work on setting up Fly! II and have just ordered a copy from Amazon which should arrive in a couple of days.Believe it or not I still have my copy of Fly! which sort of works on my XP Pro 64 bit machine, but what I am really interested in doing is getting the ROTW TBM700 which I have downloaded to work on Fly! II.Here's my questions:1. Is it vital that I buy the 2 DVDs from Fly.Simvol to get the Fly! II working correctly?2. Are they still going, as nothing has been posted on their news updates since 2008? I see that Ken has been on there.3. On their notes released with the TBM700 package, they state that the TBM700 POH can be dow…

I have been kicking around the idea of reinstalling Fly!II for quite awhile now. I remember back in the day how many hours I spent creating scenery (Terrascene/Terramodels), and creating accurate taxiways for almost every airport in Kansas. Man, those were the days. I spent way more time messing around in Fly!II then I did flying it. I also remember the patching process, which was lengthy as well as the max screen res of 1024x768. Not sure how that is going to look on a 24" monitor, but I'm willing to try. Help get me back in the mood, lets post some screen shots from Fly!II. Cockpits, scenery, aircraft, anything. I think my favorite plane to fly was the Malibu. …

I believe we now have all of Allen Kriesman's TerraModels system and support files restored to the File Library. These include: Allen's TerraModels program Allen's TerraModels Textures Biber's Models (biberall) from Biber Salsa One of the most prolific airport scenery creators, Wayne Roberts, often uses Biber's models in his scenery, so we wanted to be sure that Biber's models were available again. I should also mention that Wayne occasionally added custom models by Steve Brown (Steve's Models). Steve's Models appear to be safe in the Library and ready for download.(Unfortunately, forum posts' titles cannot be edited - obviously, I meant to say "restored".) :(

The AVSIM library is still finding files that were corrupted when the server was hacked, so they are contacting the authors for replacement. This is good news. However, I've run into a snag with one set of my TerraScenery for Fly!II. I have back-ups of all my projects except for my Arizona Project Packs. I have the full scenery pods, but not the packs and kits which would be necessary for others to use in order to generate their own sceneries. Ironically, a drive failure took out the packs and kits before they were archived. I didn't worry about it at the time, as I figured I'd just download my own stuff and archive it - obviously, I waited too long. :( Right now the l…

Hi there all,Things are coming pretty well : the code is coming better every day ; tuned and refined. Two informations among a ton !First : just a sneak peak to the smoke effect that adds some eye candy to the external rendering (feature still in development) : and second : the code is now compatible with MS VC++2008. Any developper wishing to help can now download the free environment from MS and start coding ...Cheers,laurentC

Hi Guys:I am trying to import SRTM-4 data into fly 2, by means of transforming the original .tif file into a .bin then (bin2ras) to .ras (taking in consideration the correct value of 6000nbr (its a 5 degrees by 5 degrees file)the files are already patched of holes in the land side (which looks really good), but the coastal areas are awfully grafted (something that NASA seems to acknowledge in their FAQ page) I have tried to fill the holes by means of 3DEM or even VTBuilder (cant use srtmfill, since I cant produce a .hgt file) but still I am left with huge cliffs where there should be a smooth beach.the files come on the formats .tiff, .hdr, .tfw, .asc and .pjr In the orig…

Hey Guys:I started a project recently, and while verifying some of the the phases that I have to go through I found that terrascene didn't have information on the airport I would be working on, I tried to open some of the files (with extension .dat) found in the map folder but got nowhere, does anyone know if it is possible to edit those files, (the ones containing information regarding the visible map), there seem to be some files that appear to be shapefiles, or their name at least suggest that, but cant not be open by the program I tried.the location to the files is either /MAP for the .dat files or MAP/LOWRES, MAP/MEDRESAny help will be greatly appreciated.Daniel

Hi there all,FlyLegacy will be released with databases of the south of France (to make package lighter : even though all the world will be covered by the default terrain - with TRI pods - or with added sceneries). In this area we have a great airport : LFML-Marseille as shown in the pictures below. The default area is also improved with a 2D scenery as you can see in the video : Just to let you know we are working hard to get all ready for the public release ...Cheers.

Hi gents,Yes, Chris' FlyLegacy sequel is still in progess : we have completed a lot of features and the sim is now quite almost finished for an alpha release in order to entice more developpers to join the group. We have also added several features that weren't in the original sim like a lot of informations from the vector map or the possibility to be dropped in any airport with just a mouse click !We have planned to discuss and prepare the FL release in our annaul rotw congress in december or january 2010, that is FL should be released very soon in the first months of 2010 ... obviously completely free and opensourced. Just to let you see the rendering a tiny image ... m…
