Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

I just reinstalled FLY II and the ROTW DVD. I am surprised how much I am enjoying revisiting this old friend. However, every once in a while I get a fatal error... here are the diagnostics. Msg: Fatal error caused by .DLL "system\modules\pc\pydll.dll" in DLLIdle routine. File: Dllman.cpp line 1619 Time: Fri Nov 21 17:09:06 2014 errno = 2 (No such file or directory) Any advice? Thanx in advance Donald

A while back in Fly!'s development a feature was added to allow us to access scenery from other physical drives than what the Fly!II program was installed on. This was very important for me, as my scenery data is quite large (around 16 GB right now). Since I switched to Win7 a while back, this no longer appears to function. As I recall the setting in the fly.ini was: searchOtherDrives=1 There is also this line, which may be an old parameter: serchOtherDrives=0 I've tried every variation of these 2 settings with no success. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Might it be a "compatibility files" problem?

  5. Hello fellow Fly!ers, Been very quiet here, but thought I would let you know that the english version of volEdit by Didier Rigault (ROTW) is now back in the library under development category. Didier was kind enough to provide me permission to upload the file, and any others that might be missing and not available on the ROTW site. So, if there is something Didier provided but is not here, let me know - if I have it I will post it back to the library. Cheers!

Was going through some of the library files on TerraScene area many of us had done and of course was reacquainted with Randall Rocke's efforts to supply new shapefiles from the 2000 Tiger census info. So checked out my old link and redirected to the Census website for Tiger shapefiles. Low and behold - there is new 2013 files available! Soooo... am thinking while I am unable to work I may redo my Atlanta, Kings Bay sceneries (areas I frequent most right now) and maybe restart my Oklahoma and Puget Sound efforts with the updated roads, rails, etc. All I have to do now is get to my files so I can re-read Randall's instructions on the use of the shapefiles! LOL Hopefull…

Hello Flyers! I'm sorry I've been away for so long (career issues). I see things are fairly quiet - I hope someone can point me in the right direction. After installation of a TM airport scenery set for Spain, I now get an error message that dumps Fly!II. This is the old C3d Model Load failure I used to get with some sceneries when a model pack was missing. The missing item is TR-FR30.SMF. Anybody recofnize this file? Is there a model set I can download that contains it? Many thanks!

Hello Everyone, I'm new to this and this is my first post, yey! I've had this problem for some while now in Flight Unlimited 3 and it is quite annoying! When I land/touch down on the runway, after a few seconds of rolling, doing landing procedures the simulator shuts down coming up with a box saying "Flight Unlimited 3 has encountered a problem... Please tell Microsoft about this" etc. There are three options: DebugSend Error Report Don't SendI usually click on 'Don't Send' and it returns to the main screen of my settings. I usually open the simulator up again and carry on, until it shuts down on landing again! I have clicked on 'Send Error Report' and 'Debug' buttons bu…

Happy new year to all Flyers.I was in a shop the other day and saw a very nice (Saitek) Cessna trim wheel that matches their throttle quadrant in general style. Can anyone confirm that this will work with Fly II. In options/set up axes I notice that there is a trim funcion ( elevator - I pressume) so I'm inclined to think it might. I have their yoke, rudder pedals and throttle quadrants and they all work perfectly. TRI were really thinking when they allowed the user to assign different harware to the various aircraft axes. It is however a shame that they didn't allow for turboprop condition levers.I was surprised by the number of add-ons Saitek make, the sales person sai…

Hello everyone.Good to see that you guys are still working on this sim / extension. Still the smoothest sim in my arsenal.I want to thank you all for your effort and give you some feed back. See my System info below.I downloaded and installed FlyLegacy_Alpha_Installer_0.6.5.1.exe, without any problem and my FSX was Not affected by the mod / repair of the "Visual C++ Redistributables 2008" request, to which I answered "Yes"The Program started, the cockpit showed up, the plane settled to the runway with the typical high pitch sound / squeal, engine shut off, and then it started to update the Clouds and Scenery in a SLOW Motion action. For every action, like the movement of…

The work was huge because the first step of the development consisted in reproducing a software which has the same behavior than the original simu…

Hi, Has anyone ever had any success at correcting the problem of dynamic acft taxiing with landing grear retracted? I find that on my install of Fly! II that is the norm, and then in flight, when the gear should retract, it partially extends. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, have you found a way to correct this? Cheers, Brian3cffts
