The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

I would like to join some SRTM .hgt files using 3DEM, but understand that I need to convert the files from little-endian to big-endian format. Does anyone have a copy of Harald's alpha utility that does this? Many thanks, Brian.

Thanks to Zane (what a sweet-talker!) I now have permission to release the Fly! II DLL for Precision Flight Controls digital controller hardware (e.g. Cirrus II console, digital avionics stack). Zane and I are currently testing it, but if there is anybody else who has this hardware and would like a pre-release copy, please reply by private message. Thanks,Chris WallaceOttawa, Canada

I am doing some terrascenery and find that the land use files appear to code the airfields in urban areas as mixed use residential - instead of the area around the runways appearing as grass, it shows as a built-up area! Does anyone have an easy solution for making these airfields grass covered? Cheers, Brian.

Hi Fly fans,I'm still lurking around but FS9/FSX development keeps me busy. I still pop in to check these forums and Fly the Seneca and TBM700. I recently got a full PFC CirrusII console, radio stack and pedals for review and find that no one ever did a module to allow for its use in Fly, Fly2k or FlyII. Don't even know if it's possible but if someone with knowlege looked over the dll for FS9/FSX I'm sure they could come up with some ideas. If I keep this thing I'll be in heaven flying MS or X-Plane but FlyII is out of commission with this hardware.

Is there a reason that we can not control the frequency of Squawkbox for Fly2 like they can with MS. They can enter the frequencies in their comm instead of like ours where we must get them from the directory and SB changes our comm. I have had several incidents where the frequency in the directory is 199.998, but the other pilots have the right one. I usually have to log off of vatsim and log on again to get the frequency right in the directory so that I can communicate with ATC. Or they are not even listed in the directory, but are online. Is there something that I am making a mistake about, or is it the way SB was intended to operate for Fly2?Tom PetersonFargo, ND

How is everything Down Under?? :-)Am scrambling around to find some of my original downloads (most of my AZ to GA stuff disappeared from two CDs mysteriously... haven't used them in several years actually - yet cannot "see" anything on them with my latest Roxio! Roger do you happen to have a file or files related to afg_cnsw (which I think Danny Vickers created), which main pod is in scenery-shared folder? After a reload of the sim, and patching up to current - a lot of my reloads aren't working and if I use afg_cnsw it will CTD with a terra models made file error (re: Dssy00343255.SMF or some such). According to the file itself - it is mainly a terrain update, but someho…

Hi, it's been a while.Recently I restarted using FlyII again, after using it quite some years ago. While I did a trip from Prudhoe Bay along the Northwest passage down to Frobisher Bay, Canada, my program crashed with a box "ATC stack full" or something similar. Actually I only had used TWR and DEP comms then was handed over to some Center but without a plan filed there was no way of communicating. Around Cornwallis Island the crash happened. This was flying a Mirage.Yesterday evening I filed a plan CYYT-BIRK-EHAM with the Peregrine jet and around 200 nm ahead of BIRK the same #### happened. This time I had been on radios, TWR, DEP, next Center first Gander and shortly be…

Hello all, I'm just getting back into some Fly!ing now after a longer than planned-for hiatus. First, work responsibilities got a little too heavy, then my computer went down. It didn't die overnight, but it slowly sank over the horizon over a few weeks. Now, I've always tried to keep a clean machine - I blow it out and vacuum where appropriate about once a month. Since I had recently done this, I couldn't believe that there was anything clogging up fans or cooling vents - I checked under the hood again and couldn't find anything. However, the performance of the system continued to drop as though there was a heat-related failure. In Fly!II, if there was any weather and I w…

I used FLY2 for some time while I was getting my IFR ticket a few years ago. Used it together with Jeppesen FlitePro because I liked the concept of a non-microsoft flight sim and had issues with x-plane at the time. The question is this; does anyone here have any input on the comparison between FSX and Fly2?For sentimental sake, i'd prefer fly, but need to get back in the cockpit and do some simming for IFR and wonder if MSFT ever caught up?All opinions are welcome. Just looking for some guidance.Cheers.Tracy

This is an update of the status of InfoMETAR, especially as regards the broken download feature in the wake of NOAA's FTP site change:I'd mentioned in a previous thread that I had been stymied by problems with building the InfoMETAR project file under the newer compiler I have installed nowadays. Tonight I've solved those problems, so I can move on to addressing the FTP issue. As long as I am going to be doing a new build, I also have a few other minor fixes/updates in mind to incorporate while I have the chance to do so. No time for major changes or new features, alas, but I'd still like to make the v1.02 update as worthwhile as I can within those limitations.Building…

Can anyone please help, I'am getting the following: Runtime execption code c0000005(EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION)at address 00730ED6File:winrun.cppline:152 The last thing that I did in the sim was hit the mode button on the clock by mistake, trying to reset the timer in B200, it crashed to d/t. Have tryed everything, but no luck. I installed fly II on top of my 340, And now I get the above notice, I'd hate to have to do a full reinstall. Thanks for your time Raptorbd

Hello,Hate to bother you guys. I just installed Fly!2K on my pIII 933 mhz computer w/ 512 mb ecc rdram, 128 mb vram (nvidia) Gainward FX5200, DirectX9.0c and DX9 is functioning perfectly fine, and got WMP9. This computer runs MS FS9 really well with fairly high settings no problemo. But with this arrangement, and in the graphics section selecting DirectX 6 compatible with AGP, usually after about 20 to 30 seconds I'll get this error:Directx6 3D driver error, D3DERR_Elifino: an unknown D3d Error Occured. So when I press "OK" then Fly!2K crashes to the desktop.Should I select "Software only" in the graphics section? I'll try that out. HMMM, that only allows me to have 6…

(Cross-posted to MSFS forums)Hey, everyone.Just wanted you to know that I'm working on a brand new e-book just for the flight-sim community...something along the lines of the "Ultimate Flight Simming Handbook".But it wouldn't be complete if I didn't hear from you first. After all, I can write what *I* think is important easily enough, but I'd like to know what YOU think is important, because that's the book you'd actually be interested in reading! So I've created a brief page on my personal website for you to come and tell me your burning wishes and gripes when it comes to flight simming. Everyone who fills out the survey will have a hand in shaping this book and help to m…

I have just installed an ATI Radeon X1650XT 256mb PCI-E graphics card in place of an ASUS EN7600GS card. The rendering of TerraScenery is noticeable improved. Particularly with MIPLEVELCOUNT=3. Much sharper images ... and the response of the sim to the controls seems much smoother than the old card. However, While I can change the contrast, brightness and saturation using the ATI control panel, and generally the monitor responds predictably to new settings, the new settings appear to make very little difference to the display of Fly II scenery ... it remains too dark, being only slightly brighter than before the change... even if the ATI panel settings are set so that …
