Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Is it possible to change control response at slower speeds without making any change at high speed? The F16 is a great aircraft to fly, but I find that on approach, when 'on-speed', it is difficult to gain height because the nose cannot be raised higher. In fact it is not sufficiently responsive in either pitch or roll..... a real problem in landing with one mile viz! Does anyone have a solution for this?Brian

Installed a fresh copy and immediately installed the ROTW DVD add-ons. Everything is fine except the panel for the default 172 looks different. I believe it is the IFR panel. No scrolling needed to get to any of the controls. Looked around some and can't figure out how to get my old panel back. Any suggestions? Prolly just a simple key press knowing my luck...:)Dondo

Being new to the sim thing, a stupid question. I have been using flightgear and see alot of posts about FlyII. Is is freeware or where can I get it? Is it an add-on to MS Flightsimultor?

  4. G'day all,I've been procrastinating far too long. :-) The panels are simply TRI Navajo panels repainted and with just a couple of mods. The Flight model is a totally new effort and its no F-16 to fly but will challenge your piloting skills. I hope you have a bit of fun with it.I need to free up the hard disk space for other things.Cheers Roger

Hi allI have a Jetstrean J23 with the Bae Panel. I have one problem with the panel I canot find a way to reverse thrust the engins on landing. It can be done with the mouse but this only allows u to do one engine at a time and is too slow. Ia there a key function to do both at once.Pauld :+

Have just upgraded to a larger hard drive and am able to install Terrascene2 scenery for the first time .... it is an amazing step up from the generic scenery ! Kudos to Randall Rocke and all others involved in this great work!!I see that in the file library there are Terrascene2 projects (not by Randall) designed for Fly! ... will they work as is with Fly!II ?In particular there is one for Greensboro NC ... or is there one that Randall has packaged for Greensboro and Raliegh-Durham NC area ? I am looking for the global tile to the east of Winston-Salem if it has already been packaged.Brian.

Hi Donny,I added a personal wish to yours and therefore FLY!Tweaker 1.8 will have the possibility to make 3 "personal default ini-files" (sorry, I had no other idea how to call them, English is not my native language :-/ ):1. fly.ini2. default.key (Key settings)3. controller.txt (Controller settings)Fly!Tweaker already has the possibility to select files for 2./3. but you have to do it manually before starting FLY!. And although you had the helo config loaded the last time you left FLY! from time to time FLY! corrupts your configuration and you get some strange effects (when you fire FLY! and do NOT select your 2./3. config via FLY!Tweaker). This was the reason to sa…

Having just decided to resurrect FlyII after many years I have completed a fresh install of FlyII and Terrascene 2.1 onto an XP system, used only for Fly.I had previously created quite a lot of Terrascened scenery, which I resurrected from an old archive but when re rendering the projects I continuously came up with the following problem, presumably as Terrascene/Fly attempted to load the created output:Error C3DMODEL::LOAD Can't open vor.smfFile Smodel.cppLine 3701 C3DMODELI then tried to create a new project which did all that I expected it to except that it crashed with the same error message after the scenery creation was apparently completed.I have read all the previ…

I have never tried any of the ATCSynths before. I d/l beta 2 tonight and can't seem to understand how it works. The install went fine. I did have to move C4TO because of a keyboard conflict. I am able to ALT-F and the auto frequency change works. I click ALT-C and I hear talking, just don't hear any responses from a controller. I haven't tried anything IFR yet, just VFR. Anyone know what I am doing wrong? Thanks again!!

I must be doing something wrong ... I thought it was simple to do, but now my METAR files will not load. Loading weather using the 'weather//clouds/winds/other' menu works fine. Here are the files:KGSO 182354Z 23015KT 2SM -RA BKN012 OVC075 09/08 A3008 RMK AO2 SLP190 KCLT 182354Z 36015KT 2SM -RA BKN012 OVC075 09/08 A3008 RMK AO2 SLP190 Any ideas as to solving this problem?Brian

Just wondering if the hobbs meter or to say it better if the hours a machine is flown in total in simulation has any effect on performance, failures, etc.?If not - I like it that it counts continiously for some record keeping.....

Hi Flyers, just wondering if anyone uses Fly!2 for some extensive bush flying instead of "scheduled" airline services and can point me to some interesting "scenarios" (not essentially saved simulations files for Fly! but from your experience: what is fun/challenging to do?)I know there is BFU around but it seems everything they are talking about (BFU facilities, etc.) is only MSFS.Also, I scanned the file library and got some nice scenery of Alaska and thanks to Wayne Roberts there are some airports modelled, but any suggestions are very welcome! Thanks

Just wanted to express my feelings I got about Fly!2 and X-Plane since I am using both. There is a lot to love about X-Plane and I get some features Fly!2 cannot offer on Mac but comparing the visuals (although vastly improved now with Global Scenery 8) there is always something steril in the look of X-Plane whereas Fly!2 and the Terrascene is so much more "lively" (although completely static due to the missing animated environment).I don
