On Saturday the 2nd I flew with my wife and daughter on US Airways flight 567 to Orlando for an eight day trip. What was interesting was the speed of our flight. It took a little over three hours and at one point our ground speed was over 590 knots. We averaged over 500 kts from takeoff to touchdown in Orlando. I looked at our flight path on FlightAware and pulled our stats from that site, During the flight we flew just to the north of KDFW and I snapped several pictures from our cruising altitude of 35,000 feet of KDFW and downtown Dallas. Our groundspeed was so fast it only took a little over 90 minutes to pass KDFW from our takeoff at Sky Harbor. All this beg…

Some things never change. Idiots abound and the sad part is that there are a lot of gullible people here who are willing to suck this stuff in and give total credence to folks with an agenda. Here's a fact; we have a very unhappy little British boy who was banned last year and has since tried everything he can do to make our lives hell. He has failed miserably, but he sure has been entertaining, and often at your expense. He has tried it again using the persona of Helen_P, who signed on to the system on February 3rd and immediately went to the defense of another sad sack. Here's the truth about "Helen_P": She claims she is originally from Dover but now lives in St…

If you go to the bottom of the forum main page, you will see a list of folks that are on the forums or have been during the preceding 15 minutes. It is not the easiest way to tell if your friends are online. Though we have had this feature online for a while, not much mention of it has been made. Today we added a bit of an additional capability and thought we would give it a bit of exposure. You can quickly now determine if your friends (and staff) are online. A single click on the two heads image will bring up this display. Enjoy!

Sad to see it happen, but I guess that's the future of airlines. A merger between American Airlines and US Airways will likely be announced next week. Maybe in 20 years we'll have only one airline and WOAI won't have to close their doors, making their life much easier. RJ

Announcement We, the management of AVSIM have permanently banned Mr. Srdan Kostic, longtime member and onetime Administrator and Moderator of the Hardware Forums. Srdan has a lot of friends that have much respect for certain aspects of his technical and organizational abilities. For many years he was a positive contributor to this institution. When Word Not Allowed was appointed the Hardware Forums Manager he asked if he could put together an FSX hardware guide. Over the course of the next short while he accumulated the various pieces most of us hardware and software orientated people had collected and stowed in files, favorites links and buried in old forum t…

Hey guys, I have been thinking about opening up my game stream for some FSX cross country flights. I am actually training to be a pilot so everything I would do would follow FAA procedures/ Instrument approaches. I will try to answer questions about addons / specs of my computer, Will also take requests on airports to goto. Aircraft that you would see are Carendo b200 king air, Eagle Soft Citation X(sometimes is buggy for me) PMDG 737-800 PMDG 747-4/8, Captain Sim 767 and 757. Let me know what the interest level of this would be.

I am asking because I've always read about how pilots describe their first solo as the ultimate high and so on, while my own experience was completely different. On my first solo, my CFI just asked me to come to a complete stop on the runway on the next touch and go, he then jumped out (it was a small grass strip with no traffic) and told me take off again. So I did and I really didn't feel or do anything much different from when he was onboard. Well, I did sing 'I am sailing' by Rod Stewart all the time because it felt like the right thing to do! A couple of other training aircrafts then joined the circuit but we all continued business as usual. Afterwards I f…

Hi, all. I am just curious - when facing a monster winter storm such as Nero in the New York and New England areas, do airlines try to move as many planes out of the area while they can, or do they leave them in place and deal with clean up afterwards?

I was thinking about bidding on this one: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=561390705 It is now up to $705 when I posted this and I bet it sells for over $2000 dollars. Who would have thought a 25 year old Computer would be worth so much. I used to have one but it has been lost in a house fire about 15 years ago.

Well, really, a new brand under which Hawaiian Airlines will offer ATR 42 service to "lesser" destinations in Hawaii (currently serviced by Island Air which is having its own problems, as well as some really small operators) to be called "Ohana by Hawaiian". http://www.hawaiiana...rendering_5.jpg background vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=OiS9K16F04I Interesting livery. Maybe a little busy? scott s. .

I've got a presentation for a class I'm taking coming up in a month or so, which I will be teaching my advance aerodynamics class about the aerodynamics of wide body aircraft. I've been doing a lot of googling and looking around youtube for videos and other sources for my project but besides a few articles on the 787 and a very dated but good nasa book i've found squat. Wondering if anyone here knows any resources which I should be looking at? Here's the link to the NASA article if anyone is interested: http://www.hq.nasa.gov/pao/History/SP-468/ch13-5.htm Thanks,

I waited until this one ended up on DirecTV to watch. Did anyone else see this movie? Only the first ten minutes of the movie are actual flying, and the rest is edge of your seat "stop drinking!" yelling from the couch. There are some really good life lessons to be learned though from the ending. When Cap. Whip was asked by the NTSB investigator, during the hearing, if it was his opinion that the woman flight attendant (whom lost her life saving a child's life on the flight) was the one who drank the open liquor from the galley -- I wasn't sure how he was going to answer... When he took the blame, admitted he was an alcoholic, and bit the bullet, I was really s…

Simple question; why not? I am not a parent, so I don't have an opportunity to use my flight simulation hobby as that of a family activity. But this question and the responses are interesting. So, why is flight simulation predominantly NOT a family hobby? Your opinions?

Ok lets say you were a billionaire and you had the choice of either a G5 or like type or a Lockheed L1049 or another classic propliner which would you pick? I'd pick the Connie it'd get a lot of attention and plus for the 40 million in price difference I could buy a lot of fuel and R-3350's

Imagine having one of these and designing your own keyboard totally dedicated and marked clearly for a given Sim. No more confusing or hard to remember combo key-presses, just all laid out and ready to go...... If these became common and cheaper, users might even compete to come up with the best overlay design....... Aint technology cool?

Looks like Google wants to build a private airport in San Jose, California at a cost of 82 million. Let's hope they have a interest in aviation and build us a new flight sim for 82 bucks or so. Wondering how big this airport might be (runway size), lead me to look up the aircraft Google owns. It appears they don't own aircraft but operate the aircraft fleet through a LLC (limited liability company) called H211. They fly a 757, 767, two Gulfstreams and one Dornier Alpha fighter jet. So the size maybe significant. A Dornier Alpha fighter jet? Really? RJ
