Hi all, Would just be very curious to know just how big the worldwide flight sim communtiy is. Are there any rough numbers about how many FSX were sold? Which countries are the "strongest" in this regard? I understand that there are the core simmers (myself included) using it a lot and as a way of life and those who just bought it... Christos

Saw this story today, and it really grated my nerves against law enforcement. http://m.aopa.org/aircraft/articles/2013/130110secret-no-fly-zone.html Basically: - the pilot flew over a small power plant at around 1,500 MSL near a lake looking for a thermal - plant workers claimed he was just a couple hundred feet over the building and called the police - police tried commandeering the nearest airport and mentioned "shooting him down" if the glider didn't land - police didnt properly mirandize (sp?) him and denied him a phone call so other pilot friends didnt wonder why he didnt return to his home field - he stayed locked in a cell overnight with 10+ inmate…

I just stumbled across a new series on The Smithsonian Channel called Might Planes. The past 2 episodes were on the C5M and the LC130. The next one is about the AN124. Here is the URL http://www.smithsonianchannel.com/site/sn/show.do?series=1003002 and if you don't have the channel I believe you can watch online. Blue skies. Kevin -.- . ...- .. -. I didnt see a forum for Virtual airlines, but wanted to share this with the avsim community: ACMI is a system used on the Nellis Ranges during Red Flag and other air exercises. ACMI stands for Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation. The ACMI system involves state of the art sensors on the aircraft that allow the ground controllers of the air war to 'see' a 3-D picture of the simulated air combat, including air-air engagements, air-ground strikes etc. in real time. The data can be recorded and played back in the pilot debriefing for training purposes. The data transmitted from the aircraft is picked up by a network of repeaters on the ground and transmitted back to …

Hey, I just want to say my thanks to the community for all the awesome posts about flight planning, operation etc. The wealth of information on this website is absolutely stunning. Froogle, Jane, PMDG and all those involved with Tony's Fundraiser - Thank You, I had lots of fun with all at the livestream. Personal Thanks goes to Chris Palmer for Angle of Attack Productions - your amazing video on Aviator 90 - Episode 11 (Traffic Pattern) - Saved my life in the air last week. A general aviation aircraft was not following the rules by accident while we were in the Downwind Leg of a untowered airport. You videos made me learn the pattern and its component befor…

Recently I downloaded the Carenado 210T Centurion. A fast aircraft if you climb into the flight levels. My question to real pilots: If you're on a flight that requires oxygen, especially at FL200 and above, are there any physical issues that one experiences due to the low air pressure? Or do things feel normal, albeit with an oxygen mask? Just curious, hope to hear some feedback. Regards, John

Yesterday evening I saw on the news, that Vienna airport has benn closed due to snow. Besides the fact, that this amount of snow is very unusual (something like 30cm/1ft in a few hours) here in Eastern Austria, what cought my special interest, is that the airport was at first limited to "outgoing only" before it was completely closed. Now my question is, what makes landing on a snowy runway more dangerous than taking off? Is it the danger of skidding when you need to make corrections, if you weren't completely aligned with the RWY on touchdown, the danger of overrunning due to braking being less effective or am I missing something compeltely different here? Thanks…

A little earlier today, the Channel 10 news helicopter crashed east of Perth, it appears that the tail-boom has separated from the body of the helicopter. Luckily everyone involved escaped serious injury. The cause of the crash has not yet been established, but the ATSB are headed to the scene for further investigation. More info here

Gang, I am contacting you with some urgency with a request to publicise and help with a plea for help from Tony Radmilovich. As you may know, Tony is a key member of the flight sim community. He has written for the flight sim websites, PC Pilot, Computer Pilot and is an active member of many flight sim groups and clubs He is very very active in the community. Tony has suffered a devastating spinal injury and to make matter worse, fell from his bed during hospital treatment aggravating the injury. If that sounds dreadful, it gets worse, he is also suffering from life threatening infections. He cannot walk and is extremely ill. In addition to being a major light…

I recently got new phone service. When my bill arrived I was over-charged by $6.00. I called the phone company and they stated that since it was a new account, these errors happen and it is "normal". My neighbor bought a new house 2 weeks ago, and one of the walls cracked from top to bottom. The mortgage company said that it's a new house and things like these do happen, and that it is normal. Normal ? This is normal? Some of my friends own several airlines and they bought the Boeing 787; they paid several millions of dollars; several incidents happen recently which if it occurred during flight, it could have very likely contributed t…
