Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  6. Hi everyone. I saw this morning that MegaSceneryEarth had released full coverage of Michigan for FSX. Michigan is my home state, and I have been waiting for some good Michigan scenery for awhile. I would love to get this, but I have always been skeptical of PhhotoReal sceneries. I have never purchased any, but from the screenshots they look unrealistically flat, and I would think that from low altitudes/ground level, the lack of 3D objects would look very bad. Is this the case with photoreal sceneries? Or are they not that bad when you view them within the simulator? I would love a little feedback on photoreal scenery in general, or even better on this particular Michigan…

Sometimes when I'm taking off or landing (usually SFO or LAX) the aircraft I'm using, which is usually a 767 or 340, will swerve off of the runway. The worst part is that I'm not doing anything To make this happen. Sometimes it works just fine and others, it just completely swerves off the runway. Please help. This is getting kind of annoying, especially when I think I've got a perfect landing about to happen.

  10. I have no idea how this could have happened but.... :o http://youtu.be/9kyyLRBnO3A

  11. this is only my second post to the forums here and the first got zero views so im hoping im not off topic putting this here - apologies if so http://www.bing.com/...mod&form=msnrll title is 'low flying plane terrorizes couple" am i correct in wishing it was changed to "idiotic and suicidal runway incursion by morons terrorizes sport pilot coming in to land on runway death only avoided by epic piloting skills"? that IS a runway right? if so the incident must have been reported and someone held acountable? Ural flight SVR3046 was attempting to land at Kazan airport (Russia) during poor weather. Cloud base was 100ft and visibility was about 1/2 mile. After the aircraft broke through the clouds, the crew executed a missed approach because the aircraft was not where it should have been. During the missed approached the tail struck the localizer antenna. After the accident, the ILS for runway 12L/29R was Notamed unserviceable. Wonder if the ILS was broken before or after the accident? RJ

  13. Early January I have unsubscribed twice from PCAviator newsletters and other mail offers but they continue to send me their mails. A couple of months ago I received 5 promotional mails from [email protected]. I asked them why they were advertising so aggressively but they never answered my request. My provider offers an excellent anti-spam protection system, but before reporting pcaviator as a spammer I am wondering if maybe I might be the only one to have that issue? I do not know what goal they are aiming at, by not responding to their customers requests, but they certainly achieved one : they lost me as a customer (and I did buy a lot of addons f…

If you are like me you enjoy flying real world routes, even if they are with defunct airlines. I have a large collection of PDF time tables I have downloaded over the years. Many are available on the various airline sites. What is rare is getting defunct airline PDF time tables. At this link you will find a few I have uploaded... http://www.sendspace.com/file/jzxntv Among them: ATA 2008 Continental 2011 Hamburg International 08/09 NWA 2010 Sky Europe 2007 USA 3000 2009 and a TuiFly from 2007 (they do not post PDF files any longer so I included it). Anyone else have any they would like to share? I was looking for LTU, JetsGo, Aloha, Canada …

  17. Interesting comment made by Palmer Luckey the 20 year old developer of the Oculus Rift on Forbes the other day. The new prototype has caused quite a stir at CES 2013. I still remain a little sceptical, but the press certainly seem to be lavishing praise on the device. Would really like to try it with a flight simulator. http://www.forbes.com/sites/eliseackerman/2013/01/11/will-oculus-rift-be-the-coolest-gadget-ever-an-interview-with-creator-palmer-luckey/ "What games are you most excited to play on the Oculus Rift? Maybe this is something you all have already been aware of for a while, but I found this worth mentioning. Many people say, that sometime in the future, planes are not gonna need pilots anymore. Despite the technology of nowadays, I didn't really believe in this, at least not for this century. Because computers cannot improvise as pilots do. What if something happens the computer wasn't programmed for? But today on a news program in Holland, it was mentioned that testflights are already being done. And guess what? Succesfully. They've done several flights with a Beech 1900C (or D) equipped with advanced computers and no pilots whatsoever. It managed to avoid obstacles (o…

  25. I was following this story for the past few days but didn't post on here. The latest reports are that they didn't survive. New Zealand was heading up the Search and Rescue and when they did find the wreckage of the Twin Otter, it has been found spread out on a mountain side. Reports are saying no hope for survivors after days of waiting and prayer. Lost in the wreckage was pilot Bob Heath, a legend in the aviation industry RIP to the Canadians lost in this tragic event
