Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

I'm curious. How many fellow forum members here are from Poland?. I've been looking around for flight simulator and general aviation forums, and there aren't many which are active. There seems to be some good product recently for Polish simmers, e.g. Drzwiecki design and VFR-Poland, so maybe I'm missing something. Everyone I speak to has no idea even what FSX or X-Plane is. Nie napisałem po polski, bo nie wiem, czy tutaj można

Hey everyone, on monday I have my instrument checkride and I've been studying my butt off trying to get all the neccessary knowledge in my head. My instructor had all his checkrides with the guy I am going with and he said that his oral exam is usually around 45 mins to an hour and then they go up in the plane to do the hold, approaches, unusual attitudes etc. He said that most of his questions are about weather and different scenario based questions. So for example, if you lost communications while in cruise what would you do to land at your intended airport.... Anyway, I was just wondering what common types of questions I might get asked during the oral exam. if th…

New space sim on the Kickstarter: This has to be funded. It's basically hardcore sim in space. Game simulates spacecraft systems (like DCS/BMS), has clickable cockpit, and good potential. And it's a labor of love. Developer learnt programming to make a space sim he wanted to play since he was young. I'm not related to the developer, or the project, but I'd love to see that one funded.

No doubt most of you have heard or seen the classic movie "The Right Stuff"....when I was undergoing my training, a couple of decades ago (at least)...I watched a documentary called "The Wrong Stuff"...and it was absolutely riveting stuff! To my amazement, Daryl Lyons from Vatpac found the documentary on You Tube....this documentary was required viewing in the early days of the concept of CRM and many other studies towards better crew interaction, as well as crew-machine interaction. http://youtu.be/hhn9qu7Y9E4

Anyone see this video before? Either people are idiots shooting at a plane they hear buzzing overhead, or there is just that many people firing off guns into the air on new years eve that allow this thing to happen by "chance".

Hey all, I've been roaming around on flightaware and encountered this: http://flightaware.c.../flight/QFA6025 QFA6025 on a B763 is a flight done every 2 months or so by Qantas to Roswell Airport, New Mexico, United States from Honolulu, Hawaii, United States. Using Qantas' very own search engine, as well as expedia, I was unable to locate this flight for regular civilian travel. Also, I looked for the route in reverse and couldn't find anything. After viewing Roswell airport's information pages I was able to conclude there is nothing there for Qantas (as far as I can see!) I have no reason to believe they are retiring their 767's and placing them in storage there mu…

Remember this news item from last May? http://travel.usatod...-delta/699512/1 The finalization of this transfer of the AirTran 717s from Southwest to Delta is supposed to happen in the next couple months. It also has some significance for FSX AI traffic add-ons. Has there been any news as to on what routes these aircraft are going to be used?

  19. We have updated our menuing software and now are doing some experimenting with its new features. You may see some funcalities but not to worry. We'll announce any permanent changes if we implement them. Otherwise, just have a look, take a deep breath, accuse me of mucking things up AGAIN, and then just ignore them. They will most likely go away. A change that is now in effect... The FORUM tab must be double clicked to get the Forums to refresh, and the same is true with the LIBRARY tab. Double click it and it will take you immediately to the library.

Hard to believe 44 years ago the first Boeing 747 (City of Everett) took it's first flight on February 9th, 1969. My first flight on a Boeing 747 was back in 1980 on a Wardair B742 (Reg C-GXRD or cn 21517/368) en-route to PHNL (Honolulu). My dad asked if we could visit the cockpit and all I remember was walking from a luxurious cushy passenger cabin, into a shiny all steel cockpit with gauges and switches everywhere. I was sold.... When was your first flight on a B747? Have you ever wondered what happened to her? My Memory Today RJ

Guys and gals, my better half wants to get me a tablet as a Valentine's Day present, to which I am not going to object. LOL Our dilemma is... Which tablet to buy? I know this thread will turn into the usual iOS vs Android flame fest, to which I don't mind as long as there are valid arguments behind your choice of OS. Obviously, the tablet is geared toward someone hooked on Aviation and flight simulations, who is also looking at getting his PPL in the near future. He might even be able to work as a pilot for his Department in the near future as well. With this being said, I think I have it narrowed down to the following 2 choices: Apple iPad 3 with Retina Displ…
