AVSIM being the worldwide resource it is I thought I'd see if the buying habits of those in the UK are reflected across the world or not. Simple question - is any of your car (if you have one!) paid for on finance? The UK has definitely seen a large shift from mainly buying cars outright to being more concerned about getting a new car and the monthly cost of that on finance.

We're introducing a new RISK OF CLOSURE tag for problematic threads. This will be a very easy way to put members on notice that a topic is in a 'going south' condition, and that if it continues along that path it will be closed. This should be much clearer and easier to see than an Admin posting a warning in the topic itself (as these can get buried by subsequent posts and many may not see it at all). As an example take a look at the tag to this very topic! This is a very good notification warning for threads going bad and we're hoping it will help in turning them around.

Rainy friday from LPPT, and probably what I have long been looking for in a sim lately - no it's not the level of graphics MS FLIGHT offered, no there is no sophisticated Plane-Maker like in X-Plane10 (although you can have a great time building / modifying aircraft models using some available tools and a simple text editor...), no there are no super-complex PMDG-like aircraft (or maybe there are after all - try the 744 by a team that includes some respected PS1 users....), but!!! - In my new system I can run it with all maxed out and I have a World scenery certainly more interesting even if not so sharp, than the one I got with X-Plane10, and at the level of default …

A screen shot by Ben Cap showing an NGX climb out at SNA reminds me of one rather exciting early nineties flight on a lightly loaded Delta 757 out of there. I was returning home to CYYC from a week long business trip. I don't remember if this flight was direct to the usual SLC hub or not, because it was a substitute for one I was booked to take earlier which was canceled or delayed. I had to pay extra so I wouldn't have to stay over another day. Even though my memory may be a bit sketchy on the particulars, the takeoff itself sure isn't. I had flown out of SNA before and looked forward to the fun required for the local noise abatement procedures. On this particular fl…

My friend was doing some digging on the B200 and found this older post on the pirep.org forums: http://www.pirep.org...1636ea91eca9bfe The basic gist of the story is that both pilots are extremely fortunate, and the airframe of the tried and true King Air is about as resilient as any pilot could ask for (notwithstanding the windshield)!

Hello all, Recently i purchased the ifly 737ng (800/900) I’m usually an 757/767 pilot got lots of hours in the old birds. Anyhow when i come to land and have set my vref speeds etc, it seems to me that the 737 has a relatively high nose pitch up attitude when it’s at its final approach speed (Vref+5kts+cross wind spd) Also i'm finding it a bugger to land especially in the touchdown zone as it always seems to balloon and carry on for several hundreds of metres before smoothly touching down. I'm doing what i usually do in the 757/767's flaring at 20-50ft then knocking the throttles back to idle at 5-15ft. No problem in the 757/767 they seem to just drop down effortle…

Have many of you started flight training, or finished flight training, yet gave up soon after? I'm seriously considering giving up flying :( The cost in Australia is one of the highest in the world. There are cheaper options but safety is compromised sometimes, and even the cheaper options are still expensive. Looking at other life goals that could be achieved with the same large sums of money, I consider the "opportunity cost" of flying. In the end, having a PPL isn't worth much if you can't use it.. I also get stressed when I can't fly due to work, weather or family and don't like not keeping regular lessons. I wonder how people keep current after they…

Hi all- I frequently fly out of KSAN (DeltaVA) and I am mystified by a TEC Route, the SANN4 +MZB293R SLI148R SLI Departing RNWY 27 (HDG 272) and then I....?? do I fly the MZB radial until it intersects with the SLI Radial, then take the SLI radial into Seal Beach? I am confused as to when I do what... Note: The Runway 27 Track does NOT intersect ANY of the Fix Radials given. The above route includes two fixes and two radials. They DO intersect each other. When do I leave the Runway 27 (273 degrees) heading after takeoff? Fix: MZB (Mission Bay) 293 Radial SLI (Seal Beach) 148 Radial Seal Beach Then into LAX ILS for th…

I hope I have not grossly misunderstood proper B737 landing technique or overlooked any details in the following video. It depicts an AeroGal B737-200 landing at Guayaquil (beginning at 1:34). One user commented "he's flaring and still extending flaps? where did this pilot learn to fly?" At 2:31, both audio and video indeed suggest that the flaps are being extended moments before touchdown. 1. Are the flaps really being extended so late? 2. If so, why? 3. Is such usage appropriate? The video seems authentic and the flaps indeed seem to extend during flare. However, aircraft configuration changes at such critical moments seem risky and undesirable. W…

Only came across this by sheer coincidence...tried to look at the reasons behind this incident but nothing really concrete. Would anybody have some details? Fantastic show of control by the crew and controlability at very slow speed by the aircraft! I believe it was repaired and went back into service. http://youtu.be/NprTbTVl1Uk

On occasion we like to post statistics that show just how vibrant and busy a community AVSIM is. Here are some stats from January 1, 2013 to noon on February 17th EDT. First up; the number of people that have registered since January 1st: Next; how many NEW topics were created: Next; how many POSTS were made in the forum topics since January 1st: What were the top 10 forums and how many visits / views of those forums were made since January 1st? I will let you do the math for the total number of views of the top 10 forums. EDIT: One other stat that I thought I should add is that of the number of REGISTRATIONS that we hav…

Shalom and greetings all my pals, I need help from any of you using your memory from years ago to solve this mystery in case anyone of you had been to this airport many times about 35 years ago or so. Can anyone please be kind enough to tell me what gate at KLGA is that in all those enclosed photos where National airline DC-10s were docked at? (to moderators or any reader, the avsim forums are blocking me from enclosing links to photos of National airline DC-10s docking at KLGA gates) Thanks for any help you might provide so that I can recreate it on FSX. Regards, Aharon

New proposals for a floating airport in the Thames Estuary have been unveiled. Proposals for London Britannia Airport, designed by architects Gensler, include four floating runways tethered to the sea bed. The architect said the design allowed for future expansion to accommodate six runways when required. Project director of the latest proposal Ian Mulcahey, said: "This will be a national infrastructure project that can inject new pace and dynamism into our economy. "The airport can be quickly manufactured in the ship yards and steel works across the UK and can be floated by sea and positioned in the Estuary. "This isn't a London airport, it is a global airport…

Hi guys, The title says it all. I came across a lot of videos on youtube that feature slide shows of airliners.net pictures. So just wondering if it's ok? I'm guessing it's ok as long as the watermark/photographer name is shown? Please correct me if I"m wrong. Thanks
