This guy got to see his dying mom in time thanks to United Airlines crews making it happen: http://www.cnn.com/2....html?hpt=hp_c1 Reminds me of when my mom passed away of cancer in 2008. I was called for work to take a train back to my home terminal. My sister called that morning and told me the hospice nurse said it doesn't look like she's going to hold on much longer, you better get home now. In tears, I called up the boss and he sent the engineer home, ordered a crew van to take me directly to my mom's house an hour away where I rushed inside and got to spend the last 45 minutes with her before she passed. I'm forever grateful for that to happen and I'm su…

Captain Cal Flanigan at Delta airlines has just retired after serving with them for 45 years and spending the last 8 years as their most senior pilot. One of the first African American pilots to enter the industry. http://www.ajc.com/news/business/senior-delta-pilot-retires-after-grasping-dream/nWmZn/ Nice story. Regards, Ró.

This is a GREAT vid a friend of mine sent me a link to. Just watch her face .... all the joy she shows and her at times concern and then relaxation. I was looking at washington aeronautical maps this morning and ATIS said wind was "34012." I know that this means compass and 12 knots but does it mean the winds are blowing towards 340 or blowing from 340. Trying to determine what runway to use. Thanks.

Sorry if this may seem like a silly topic, I have no knowledge of remote controlled aircraft and will do a bit research after I post. Just read about an incident with an Alitalia aircraft on approach to JFK reporting an unidentified small aircraft within 200ft. From what I have read it was a remote controlled aircraft being flown in first person view from a remote control aircraft club nearby, the FBI is investigating. When the first video phones came out (a long time ago) as a joke myself and a friend tried attaching them to remote control cars to see if we could drive in first person, obviously the phones where rubbish and clunky & combined with the fact tha…

With the upgrade of our forum and content software over night, we have introduced a new feature which we think will be a great addition to your use of the system. This is the ANSWERED function. What this does is provide the ORIGINAL topic poster (the OP) to decide which of the following answers to his question was the right answer. When that OP gets the right answer, he can annotate it as such for follow on readers to note. Mods and Admins can also designate messages as 'answered' and they can also deselect them as well. The next message following this one is an example of that function.

I recall trying to find the largest aircraft able to land at SION and not being able to find it. Is there purely a rwy length v aircraft type rating in real life? I'm talking min rwy length v say a 737-800. I was sure the airport is required to advertise this. I'm assembling some 'stand it on its nose flights' and want to be able to take each of my aircraft into a minimum rwy length airport. Jon

My name is Joris Versteeg from the Aviation Megastore in The Netherlands. (www.aviationmegastore.com) We are planning a summer event with an exhibition about the history of Flight Simulator. We would like to give a live demo of Flight Simulator 98. We are currently looking for a couple of add-ons for FS98 that we could use for our live demo. One of them would be Proflight 98 by AETI. We are also looking for Europe 1, 2 and 3 by Apollo. We still have Proflight 2000 and we tried to get it working with FS98 but that is not working. We would like to ask for you help. If anybody still have a version of the software please contact me via PM or E-mail: jorisversteeg…

Since last mid of January, the problem hasnt been completely solved. I wonder if there has been cases similar to this involving a big compa'ny and its highly praised reputation. Having determined the problem might avoid fatal occurrences. However, the grounding results complaints, not only from Dreamliner operators but also their blank days pilots. ANA pilots are complaining their not flying that has stimulates financial burdens as it reduces their 20% of overall earnings while JAL has to reduce 20% of their 787 pilots. I personally don't see any major reasons to complain LOL.. 30% WAGE CUT FOR DOING NOTHING ISN'T BAD AT ALL YOU LUCKY NINJAS! But that's my perspect…

This will probably land me in it with the 'bleedin' heart liberals' but I thought this was a great way to deal out justice. An illegal alien, in Polk County , Florida , who got pulled over in a routine traffic stop, ended up "executing" the deputy who stopped him. The deputy was shot eight times, including once behind his right ear at close range. Another deputy was wounded and a police dog killed. A state-wide manhunt ensued. The murderer was found hiding in a wooded area. As soon as he took a shot at the SWAT team, officers opened fire on him. They hit the guy 68 times. Naturally, the liberal media went nuts and asked why they had to shoot the poor, un…

Seeming as this came up in another thread and seemed interesting, I looked for a review from the always amusing nerd. Amusing enough that I thought some others might enjoy a look. Warning: Occasional exclamatory cussing.

It's a nice HD video of a flight on a DR-400, clearly showing prop slipstream, and probably some p-factor as well during initial climb, that are common to many GA prop aircraft, and particularly noticeable on a Robin... It's with dismay that I see just two simulators properly replicating this effects, with some special exceptions of add-on aircraft for FSX that can somehow approach the magnitude of the effect, even if doing it through a p-factor scalar only, which is not the most realistic way of simulating this type of effects, but still gives an acceptable outcome. Most simulators will reproduce only torque effects, and cause rolling tendencies, sometimes ending…

I've been thinking recently about this; about places I frequented once but now, for whatever reason, tend to avoid; and about places I may have lurked at for a while when first entering the community and then fled without ever saying a word after having seen enough. (Poor customer service, local curmudgeons, hostility to customers and a host of others turn offs) I just took a swing through some old hangouts, and the question seemed even more topical, making me wonder about how others feel. So. What about a forum makes you want to settle down for a while and make it a home away from home? What makes you stay; and if you don't stay, what about a particular forum…

In the last few days Nerd has introduced me to sims I never even dreamed existed (and some that maybe shouldn't exist!) It seems there is a whole universe of obscure simulators out there (Which kind of puts the whole flight sim thing into perspective, doesn't it?) and this is one I had almost forgotten was on my drive. I got bored with it initially back in the day, but after seeing this I have started using it again. (I also had the horror of seeing him try a Surgery Simulator..... apparently there are two of them; the one he plays and a more serious one) Surgeon Simulator.... really??? (Yes, really) As usual with Nerd, more hilarity ensues than I woul…

I was browsing my local Office Depot looking for a good flash drive and a new computer carrying bag, when a sudden curiousity to a specially-colored CD-ROM casing took me to the CD section, lo and behold, what do ya know, Office Depot sells FS2002. Thats right, FS2002. And not just that one old CD copy from long ago that no one bought and the employees are just too lazy to get rid of, there were 6 other copies on the other side of the CD area. Absolutely incredible that FS2002 is still commercially available...

Hello all, I have started this thread in Hangar Chat in hopes of receiving quicker responses to accommodate any potential sign-up deadlines (please read context below). I am a high school student interested in attending a youth aviation program in North America this summer. Ideally, this program would be fun and somewhat casual, but challenging and enriching—more immersive than FSX, real-world training materials, and Wikipedia can be, but not on a formal training level. I am more interested in experiencing lots of flight from the cockpit and learning how to operate GA aircraft than I am in learning about aviation careers, commercial operations, engineering and…
