Hi guys, Some of you may remember me as zzmikezz, a username that no longer works for me at Avsim, hence xxxmikexxx. (At FlightSim.Com I am -- or rather was -- xxmikexx.) I made a lengthy post to FlightSim late yesterday, the last one I will ever make. It had to do with how I use FS these days. (In a nutshell, I basically fly only my heavily customized version of the Cantu/Fox/Probst 727-200, but I use an enormous amount of payware utilities, gauges, what have you.) Since FSC global moderator Jim Skorna can't stand me, I told them in my post that if it was modifed, or moved, or deleted, or locked, that I would double check with Nels Anderson and his busine…

I came across this documentary, where two ex-boeing employees say that 737NG's are build with ill-fitting parts. they talk about the cords that constitute the airframe skeleton, which are produced by a third company sub-contracted by boeing. these parts are supposed to be produced by computer controlled machines, instead they are made by hand. the problem with this is that they are not as accurate as they should be, which makes the whole airframe not being strong enough and not as safe. previous generations of 737's were build by hand made parts but the NG series were certified to operate at higher weights, speeds and altitudes because these accurate parts can fit tightly…

I've searched the web but found no concise answer. How are small airliners that don't have the range for the atlantic crossing delivered to airlines in Europe? I've seen things such as they are fitted with extra tanks in the cargo bays and high density fuel is used, but surely these additions then modify the certification of the aircraft? I also can't imagine them being semi assembled then shipped on a boat and assembly finished in europe though this could be the case. Anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks to an interesting web blogger (Aviation Mentor, worth checking out) I see that now FAA is producing GPS approaches that use the "RF" leg (in the past these were all RNAV RNP approaches). I guess the idea is that GA will have these approach types available. FSX GPS can't do an RF leg, but I don't know if any addons can (PMDG maybe?) . Example here: scott s. .

Very interesting feature in today's Annapolis Capital newspaper profiling Philip VH Weems, a pioneer in navigation, inventor or co-inventor of many navigation tools and aids still in common use today in aviation and maritime. http://www.capitalgazette.com/news/local/navigation-luminary-weems-featured-in-new-smithsonian-exhibit/article_25ea2046-68de-5ddc-96b6-f41beae0390e.html

I will be flying aboard the 320(BA)/744(BA)/772ER(BA)/744(QF)/A333(QF) in the upcoming 2 weeks. I am not a frequent passenger and this question has been buggin again few years back but that last time I didn't have the courage to ask the flight attendant. So is it possible to do so this time .. or more importantly .. Is there any chance to succeed? Dо you guys ask the stewardess kindly using some magical phrases? It would be great to take a picture of me with the captain or F/o in the T7 cockpit per say..

We all know texting and driving kills as seen in this corvette accident. But now these little convenient additive gadgets are causing problems in the air. When will people stop this non-sense of texting and driving and now texting and flying for goodness sake. CNN Report NTSB Report RJ

We have just brought a new feature online [you]. We thought you might be interested in it [you]. It is this BBCODE: [you] If you put in the above BBCODE to any of your forum messages, and when read by a member, it will show their user name where ever it is located in the message. It brings a personal touch to your message. See the example in the opening sentence above [you]. Now, this has the potential for abuse, as all these things are, so folks that post things like; "[you], your system sucks!", or "[you], your mother dresses you funny.", or, well... you get the idea. Don't abuse it and enjoy!

We shut down the system at 12:20 p.m. today to bring online a number of fixes to our forum core software. There are too many of them to list, but suffice to say that editor issues, rebuild issues, numerous mobile issues, and so on. All are important of course, but most important to us is the improvements in handling the databases. We hope to see a continuing improvement in response times. If you see any bugs (not feature requests), please report them via our tracking system here: Forum and Library Bug Tracking System

I find it hard to believe how slow it takes a 737-800/900 to get to 35,000ft with a full load. I posted this is the FSX forum but it may have come across as trying to get two add-ons to complete. I'm just trying to see if what I'm seeing in FS9 with the 737-800 matches real world performance. I'm at work so I can't give accurate numbers as to passenger/baggage load but last night I was looking at this in comparison to my 757/A320 flying I've been doing as of late. I had a full load of passengers with a 100% fuel in each tank at the ramp/gate. I was 700 pounds overweight so I adjusted my fuel in the three tanks to 50% each. From takeoff at KLAX on my way to KIAH it took 45…

I have recently been travelling on a 734, and I have noticed a peculiarity when landing. On at least two occasions on the aircraft, the gear have dropped early. Very early. The aircraft hadn't even turned onto the base leg one time at KPSP and the familiar thump could be heard before the wind could be heard against the gear. Another time the gear also went down very early, landing at KSFO. Does anyone know why this would be? It wasn't just a one off occurrence. It seems almost like procedure, and surely it's inefficient. On an unrelated note, I was on a Q400 landing on runway 16R some time ago at KSEA and the flaps didn't even start to be lowered until past KBFI, which I'…

I want to buy an F111 for either FSX or XPlane. The only one I can find is the Virtavia F111 which looks good on their site videos but the price of $25.00, will it end up in the pile of cheap add-ons I have previously purchased? Any opinions? Jon

Hi all, Bad news for WoAI. Bad news for AI Traffic fanatics, World of AI will close on end of April 2013. They’ve produced for years hundreds of AI packages, easy and automatic to install, using real airlines schedules and quality AI aircraft produced by other groups like Aardvark. But it seems like personal issues make them switch it off. Even the freeware files will be removed from the FS libraries over the web. http://www.simflight.com/2012/12/25/world-of-ai-is-going-to-stop/

My recent efforts with the usual 'net search methods have proven mostly fruitless, so I thought I'd ask here- When exactly were aircraft anti-collision lights (beyond the red/green wing tip navigation lights and possibly white or red tail light) first used or mandated? If known at all, this could include different answers by civilian/military and country/region also. What I've found so far- In the FAR's: "Aircraft for which type certificate was applied for after April 1, 1957 to August 10, 1971: These anti-collision systems must produce a minimum of 100 effective candela in aviation Red or White, 360 degrees around the aircraft's vertical axis, 30 degrees above a…

Came across an interesting documentary from back in 1971 on the introduction of the Boeing 747-100. Talking to the cabin and flight crew about the advances of the 747 and comparisons to the 707. Such a different era in flying compared to now, quite nostalgic to look back... Worth a watch if anyone has 6 minutes to spare. http://euscreen.eu/p...6545257027FACDA Regards, Ró.
