Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

So, looks like there's a real situation going on in Dublin at the moment. There's a mad wind blowing tonight, 55knots across the main runway with Wind shear. So, what does everyone do but divert. unfortunately it's now hitting the fan. The typical diversion airports Shannon, Cork and Belfast are now full and can take no more. In addition, the following airports are now full; SNN, ORK, NOC, BFS, BHD, GLA, EDI, PIK, MAN, LPL, BHX, that's every airport within an hour of Dublin and planes don't have that sort of fuel to divert further. The situation has just escalated to an aircraft having to declare a Mayday fuel emergency. For those interested, check out this for an int…

Looks like their reservation system has crashed. No one can check in, no one can board, all AA jets are being held on the ground as no one has access to the passenger and cargo manifests. https://twitter.com/AmericanAir Regards, Ró.

I wasn't sure where the best place to post this was, so I figured this was a safe bet. I run a website and podcast, where we are starting to dig more into flight and flight simulators as a portion of the show (overall theme being tech/computers/science). I'm trying to find at least one if not more people who may want to join in the discussion (bi weekly typically). This would be as a guest spot for now, but if you find it fun and want to contribute regularly and it works out then that's a bonus. I'm hoping to find someone with some real world piloting experience as well as flight sim (emphasis on FSX). It's all volunteer based, for fun as of now. The sit…

Sort of like Police Officers, no one likes them when they show up behind you uninvited with flashing lights but when we need them they are there to maintain order and standards and it is greatly appreciated.

The model Microsoft was trying to adopt with Flight is failing all around (Window 8, Windows Store, Closed platform etc). It's like they've totally lost focus all around not just in our area of simming. Bill Gates did an outstanding job building Microsoft up and Steve slowly but surely is bringing it down. Microsoft's standing was huge which is slowing Steve B's mindless downward spiral. I hope the company wakes up soon before it's too late. Messing with Flight Simulator is one thing but mindless ideas concerning Windows is totally another and like this community the world isn't buying it (literally). Interesting read below: http://www.extremetech.com/computing/14976…

Like most, I have received spam mails from dictators, generals, finance ministers, widows, customs officers-- all promising millions of dollars. Checked my email today and saw something from American Airlines needing my attention or something. It was obviously a scam (I replaced the link with the X's). An airliner into Riverside? LOL Nice try though... American Airlines Customer Notification Your bought ticket is attached to the letter as a scan document. To use your ticket you should XXXXXXX E-ticket Seat Date / Time of Departure Flight Time Arriving …

Actually it's floor length draperies. I've had to live with the previous homeowners hideous Exorcist "green pea soup" colored window treatments in my cockpit / home office since we bought our retirement home three years ago. I have had all sorts of different patterns pitched at me by my wife over the past 18 months, all of which I rejected. I believe she was picking colors and patterns in attempts to eject me from the cockpit. She made the mistake of sending me a link to a fabrics website and challenged me to pick my own. I fell in love with this pattern immediately, much to her chagrin. Got these today and they are splendorous !! I included an insert in the bot…

Some pretty significant GA airports, some of which handle commercial pax traffic. Beloved Oshkosh (KOSH) is on the list! http://www.faa.gov/news/updates/media/Facilities_Could_Be_Closed.pdf In my sim flying I frequent some of these, like my home base of Easton, MD. I have also been flying often out of Bloomington, IN; Lafayette, IN; KOSU in Columbus, OH; Baltimore Martin State, MD; Philadelphia Northeast, PA; Lakeland, Fla (which also hosts a large aviation show each year). Lafayette, IN is the home of the school of aviation at Purdue University, one of the few major universities with a degree program for pilots. Also includes some primary airports at state…

If you open the CHAT system by clicking on the CHAT tab above, you will find the fully open chat system. You can however, open a separate window for chat: If you click on the double pane symbol next to the AVSIM Chat System Title, you will open a second window, which allows you to return to the board and other functions while maintaining an open chat window no matter where else you may be. EDIT: This is not working. Please disregard. We'll be working to fix it. I am currently in chat and will be for the next 10 - 15 minutes if anyone would like to chat.

I do hope the moderators permit me this post as photography and an interest in aviation go hand-in-hand. I want some opinions on what should I expect to pay for a used Canon 70mm-200mm f/2.8L IS USM zoom lens that a photographer is looking to sell so that he can buy the Mk.II version of this particular lens. I know all about the quality of Canon lenses, so it is not advice on those facets I seek, but a valuation of what to pay, from any photographers with Canon DSLRs and lenses expertise. Sterling prices only. Thanks.

I inadvertently deleted some images earlier looking at one variable and deleting based on another. The images were posted in the last week or so, maybe less. So if you find an image that you posted in a message, and it is now gone, please repost it in the original thread. If you posted a single image greater than 400K in size, then the image was deleted deliberately. Once again, we are seeing images far over our 400Kbytes maximum per image upload size. They will get deleted. Keep your image sizes to less than 400K and they will remain.
