First some background: As a software engineer I started my youth working in the world of Digital Research CP/M (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CP/M-86) - pre-DOS days. I've watched Microsoft evolve from the very beginning -- they were always the "less expensive" option and being a starving student of the day and working my way thru university (no free-pass parental handouts here) it was my only real option. However, prior to getting on board (in terms of platform) with Microsoft/Intel I was working the TRS-80 color computer (circa 1981 - again, pretty much took every penny I had that wasn't used for education and basic living expenses) -- I was seriously hooked -- wou…

Can anyone recommend a good flight school in the Bremerton/Seattle area? We're moving there in about a month, and I smell a career change on the way. Thanks! Matt

It just happened less than an hour ago, no casualties has been reported, it seems all on board survived. It took off from Bandung an ended in the sea after the planes unsuccessfully stopped properly. Could it be aquaplaning? I just passed my CFI add on here in the states! I am now a CFI and CFII. It took me 5 years to get all of my certs and ratings. I know this is a pmdg forum so that being said, I am so pumped that I am playing NGX right now from KTPA to KMDW. I still can't get over how awesome this software is and that I am one step closer to flying the real thing.....within the next 15 years or so.

Well I did it. I swore I wouldn't but 64 bit processing was to much for me to resist. I had to see it on my 2 GTX 580 in SLI and the Price! I got it on Ebay for $41. I feel like I have betrayed FSX. I feel like the Fuhrer in the movie. "The Fuhrer is informed about Microsoft Flight." Yes I Bought X-plane 10  I am Ashamed!

Consider this post a placeholder. Even as we discuss possible successors to FSX and the advancements in simulation graphics, Outerra is still out there; slowly, patiently and in my eyes brilliantly plugging away. Lest we forget! The Greeble City on Cliffs of Outerra This is the authors second version of Greeble buildings. He made these structures to show off the potential scale of models in Outerra. In his words: "These have baked in ambient occlusion. The engine does a nice job of lighting the rest of the models. The total polygon count on the models (combined) is about ~400,000 (triangles). He runs this at about 60 fps at 1920x1080 on a GTX 660 ti 3GB. Ou…

I purchased Aerosoft My Traffic 2010 back in 2010 through Simpilot store and my external hard drive crashed and I lost my download. I went back to my email with all my purchase info and tried to send a email to them for support and got it back. I have only been able to link Avsim to Simpilot so that is why I'm looking for help here. Please let me know where I need to go to get support from a product I purchased from them. Thank you John

Maybe it is a stupid question (probably is), but I really don't get it why prop engines (single, twin or turbo) are so bloody loud and they have really high fuel consumption. The best example is C172 with 160hp engine (like a car). So, 160hp very noisy engine, and it will drain 7 gallons/hour, or will do 15 miles per gallon, which is 4.5 liters on 25km or 18 liters/100km. Why? Is the loudness connected to exhaust system, or...? Why is consumption way higher than the car with the same hp engine?

This story has been in the news the last few days around Boston: http://www.boston.com/yourtown/news/quincy/2013/05/photos_prove_suspicious_aircra.html There is an aircraft, or perhaps 2 aircraft, that have been circling the city of Quincy and surrounding towns for a while now. The FAA, when contacted by the local police, will confirm only that it's a "sanctioned flight." The plane appears to be doing some sort of surveillance, day and night. It's low enough that it annoys people trying to sleep. A photo taken by a resident gives the tail number as N406TM, which is registered to a non-descript corporate entity with a PO Box in Virginia. It's a Cessna 182. …

Went overnight to Tucson to visit the Pima Air and Space Museum. I enjoyed it--it's the largest such museum I have visited, although I've been to the Air and Space Museum in DC, which has a bigger indoor area. The tram tour was well done and the museum hosts were always there to help answer questions. Since members don't often drop by the Real Aviation photos forum, I've posted over 70 pictures from my visit there. Below are the links to those posts (separated into four groups so I could stay within the screenshot forum rules).
