This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. We recently announced that we were bringing a live streaming video aggregation system online. We are pleased to say that it is now up and running. Currently, the system only accepts videos from Twitch.tv, but API's are being added to accept videos from Justin.tv and others in the near future. In its current state, it is pretty straight forward system and easy to use by both viewers and video stream owners. The benefit of the AVSIM Video System is that it provides a focused source for all video streams having to do with flight simulation and the many related subjects within the hobby. We currently have one live stream FS topic running and some demo videos to view. If y…

Glad to see no one was seriously injured. Am I right in saying that this is the first incident with this aircraft where the parachute was deployed successfully? I remember a few months back another incidenet where the parachute failed to open forcing the pilot to make a safe emergency landing. http://news.sky.com/story/1100224/plane-crashes-in-gloucestershire-back-garden Cheers Steve

This will hit you where it counts. To the hospital in my home state that does wonderful things for Children. Try this on for size. FedEx Express is naming a Cessna Caravan plane in honor of a St. Jude Children's Research Hospital patient, the son of a FedEx team member. The dedication event takes place in conjunction with the 2013 FedEx St. Jude Classic golf tournament at TPC Southwind in Memphis, TN. The full story can be read here. FED EX STORY. If your ever in Memphis, go by St Jude and offer a hand or support the hospital however you can. You will not regret it. You will get a lump in your throat that will not clear, and a tear in your eye that will not dry. Nuff S…

Some time ago i have seen the short version of this, it was a intro for spin recovery training. Today, i found full version here, this has made my day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMYGHGNZ47I&noredirect=1 I'm sure that was not so funny for the pilot, but still...

So guys! I've reached my 100th flight hour in my Commercial Pilot training. It's going OK, lots of cross country flights, I'm alternating between a Cessna and a Low Wing aircraft, and that certainly makes things interesting, as they require different techniques, specially during landing. There's one thing that I can't say I have become entirely proficient yet when flying a small aircraft, and that is Cross-Wind Landings. As soon as I have to deal with one of those, things doesn't go smooth. My airfield doesn't experience much of that during the year, so the winds are mostly aligned with the runway. I have dealt with this situation maybe 10 times, maybe less, but I did…

For those of you who haven't heard of google hangouts yet, it's a really great addition to their social services which allows you to have live video chats with up to nine people from all over the world. I've seen many people use this to learn foreign languages, play music together, play games, watch people paint live, it's amazing to say the least. The possibilities are endless. I have even seen people play games and share their screens. With this being said i was thinking maybe we can sort of have a fun get together on the hangouts to talk about our favorite hobby which is flight simming? You an also create communities on there as well. I think it's a pretty cool idea to…

http://abcnews.go.com/Business/kid-entrepreneur-18-sells-flights-vintage-airlines/story?id=19315576#.Ua3zXEDCZ8E A California teenager has figured out a way to do what plenty of adults wish they could -- turn a hobby into a money-making business. Sean Burris, 18, sells flights on vintage jetliners to fellow aviation history buffs. His company, Classic Jet Tours, has sold two flights so far. The first, in 2011, was aboard a British Aircraft Corp. business jet from the late 1960s (a BAC 1-11-400), described by Forbes.com contributor Matthew Stibbe as having a retro, Howard Hughes-style interior. Stibbe, noting that there were only eight such aircraft still flying, des…

Wow certainly a rare sight to see Federer out in straight sets. Although he didnt seem himself, with so many unforced errors. Full credit to Tsonga who played phenomenal and aggressive. Long time Federer fan here but perhaps the era is coming to a close sooner than we think. But Im guessing this was just a bad day and he will bounce back.

Hi folks, I wonder whether pilots learn some tricycle physics in their courses? I have never heard/seen an occasion of pilots turning off the runway too fast... Is the centre of gravity placed in a way that an aircraft rather slips over the nose wheels instead of toppling over? Thanx in advance.

We are pleased to announce that AVSIM will be bringing online live streaming video within the next 30 to 45 days. AVSIM will be providing a “channels” based system that allows any community member to establish a streaming video channel on either Justin.tv or Twitch.tv and then be fed into the AVSIM system’s video line up. Think of it as AVSIM providing the services of a Comcast, Direct TV, Sky TV or the Dish Network as examples. The AVSIM channel system will indicate to the viewer which channels are active and not, chat while watching and more. We will provide the channels and you can pick your favorite while participating in the forums or elsewhere within AVSIM. Unlike …

On Sunday we found this really cool diner and had lunch there, it's a DC-6 which has been converted into a diner & bar, you can walk into the flight deck and have a good look around, very clever idea, if you're ever near Coventry in the UK I'd definitely recommend checking it out. It's at the airport so you can sit in the DC-6 having a meal while watching the planes go by.

Last Friday's BA Airbus A319 emergency was created because maintenance staff carrying out overnight post-engineering checks and aircrew carrying out pre-flight walkaround checks failed to spot that the engine cowling latches had not been secured. As an ex-BA engineering staff, I find this news reportage as per the BBC website and now on BBC's R4, quite alarming, not to say what the potential could have been with a severed fuel pipe. Thank heavens plane and pax landed safely back at EGLL.

Ok boys an girls who here is a fueler or ramper (past or present) for the airlines? I did my time as a fueler at a major US international airport, its hard to describe the job... the only one I've ever had that I loved and hated at the same time. I still think many captains waited, intentionally for us to unhook before calling in the uplift.

I was looking for fun callsigns that weren't just "southwest" or "air Canada" but more like Cactus or Speedbird. Any more historical or current that come to mind?

Hello All, Does anyone have any information as to what happened on board American 957 yesterday night? It would appear to be a normal problem that the crew returned to the airport because of, however the flight path (according to FlightAware) is highly erratic, especially around Miami - I'm not sure whether or not that was right after takeoff or on approach. Last night FlightRadar24 sent a notification saying the crew had squawked 7700, signalling a general emergency. I have attached an image of the flight plan. Any information would be greatly appreciated. -abasa12
