Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Hi there, I love this app and have always been an avid flight sim player since I was a child. Unfortunately I am only able to play this on my iPhone 4S so, landing is very very difficult. Is there any consideration being given to having a autolanding option (as in the autopilot will land the plane?) Also, when cruising in one of the airliners on the game at for example 32,000ft when the autopilot is engaged to maintain an altitude the plane for some reason starts bouncing uncontrolably. When this happens I have to disengage the autopilot and manually return to the desired flight. As soon as the AP is re-engaged the nose of the plane starts bouncing again. …

I'm curious to know if there are any good ATC simulators out there, either for Mac OS X or Windows. Just want to see what its like being an ATC.

B17 is in saint Louis and they are charging 475 dollars for a thirty minute flight, or 20 dollars for the tour. I am so tempted to pay the 475 but my wife would probably kill me. I will probably take the tour. I don't know if I will get another chance to actually fly in This plane. If anybody else is interested, they will be in saint Louis through this weekend.

There was an upgrade a few days ago - ever since, this forum has slowed to a crawl. It takes anything up to 30 seconds loading time when I try to access it. Is this just me? (Library access seems OK, just the forums)

US Airways spokesman Todd Lehmacher said the airline now knows that its Boeings can fly at up to 126 degrees, and its Airbus fleet can operate at up to 127. Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/weather/2013/06/29/phoenix-las-vegas-bake-in-scorching-heat/?test=latestnews#ixzz2XdDNtQis

It is that time again; Spring Cleaning (okay, a little late, but hey, we get there eventually). We're going to commence pruning (read delete) of unused or underused forums. These will not be archived, but deleted. So, if one day you come into the forums and notice some absences, you will know what happened. While we are at it we may well be combining some forums as well. Jury is still out on that but if we see combinations that make sense, we'll see what we can do.

What really is the issue here? Do mobiles cause a risk to aircraft systems? Or is it just a ( very welcome) cunning plot to give us some space away from people shouting on their 'yell phones'? I'm genuinely interested in finding out the real reasons. Please don't turn this post into a war. If you disagree with what someone says, please do so in a civilised way. The reason I'm asking this is that I don't know and would like to know. Thanks for any answers.

I am about to reveal some information about what has transpired recently, that we have not previously exposed and use that as a basis to kick off this discussion. Over the last six to eight months, AVSIM has been exposed to numerous spam and DDOS attacks against our forum server. In more than one instance we have been able to identify the users from which these attacks are emanating from and almost to a man, were users who we had banned. As recently as Thursday the 27th of June, we suffered an attack from the same IP's that a well known and now banned user logged in to the forums from. That was stupid! All those previous issues with slow load times, outages, "we're up…

Came across this on another site, really hits home watching it how things have changed in the past 22 years in Aviation. It's amazing, to compare the A330 I currently fly to the 747-100 in the video. Old school doesn't come close to describing how it was done in this video... ^_^ Also funny how some things never change... Really worth the watch if you have 20 minutes: http://www.neelb.tv/archives/aer-lingus-training/ Interesting also to see how the quality of television images has changed since then. Regards, Ró.

I just got the ipad app for Father's Day and can't stress how much I love it and how it has streamlined my FS experience. Thanks! My question is this: With the new update for the charts today, I can no longer access the AFDs for airports. They show up in the "other" chart list, but they won't download. I can still download all the other charts (IAPs, SIDs, STARs, etc). Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Hey everyone. I came across a great resource for finding aerodrome charts today while planning a flight. Seems complete for Europe, Australia and the US. It didn't seem to have Canadian charts though, and I have yet to do a search for other continents. http://charts.aero/ I know I will be a frequent visitor, and just had to share it with you all.

Overheard on the Detroit Clearance channel. I didn't see this one in the FAA Handbook: Bonanza 123: "Bonanza 123. Give me the word. I want to make like a bird." Detroit Tower: "You got the nod. Leave the sod!"

I can't think of anyone who likes KLAX but this is at least a start in the right direction. People from Australia/New Zealand/Asia have been avoiding KLAX like the plague for well over 10 years when travelling to North America or Europe, this was once a big revenue generator for KLAX and this business has now gone to other regions and airlines. Not sure if they will draw people back but it is at least a start: http://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/8838071/Renovated-terminal-to-be-unveiled-at-LA-airport

X-Plane10 and DCS World are, IMO, the sims of the year. Both have been receiving from their devs a lot of attention and hard work in the background to make them as popular as possible, now that most (wrongly, I believe) feel FSX is perishing.... LM P3D is here too, and version 1.4 is as stable and good as I can ask. I actually use only P3D for the ESP platform, there being no advantage for me in keeping FSX Gold installed ( I have justa a few add-ons...) I look forward for what X-Plane10 will still bring since there are a few aspects really requiring more attention from LR (visibility, seasonal textures, ATC and AI traffic,...), but at the same time I look forward for …

United Airlines Forgets Toilet Paper On 10-Hour Flight From San Francisco To London By Robin Wilkey http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/21/united-airlines-forgets-toilet-paper_n_3479937.html United Airlines skipped an important detail on a recent flight, and it wasn't ensuring tray tables were in the upright and locked position. Before embarking on a 10-hour international trip from San Francisco to London, the crew for United Flight 931 failed to stock the plane with toilet paper, forcing flight attendants--and passengers--to improvise. The flight reportedly ran out en route, and flight attendants stocked the bathrooms with cocktail napkins instead. Passen…
