Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. I was wondering is there any ownership or management between FlightSim Store and Orbx? I know they have some kind of relationship in terms or sharing product (as I believe a lot of other simulator stores do) but is there any management/owners between the two? Does anyone know of simulator stores that are owned by developers (other than those developers who are selling on their web sites)?

I'm not quite sure what is going on or who is doing what with the VATSIM network and its forums, but something has definitely happened. Right now the forums look like this - http://forums.vatsim.net/ and a link sends you to a Twitter account claiming responsibility ... https://twitter.com/Anon_Juke and other VATSIM users on Twitter have uploaded some strange screenshots ... https://twitter.com/Hozo22/status/357676859481272320/photo/1 Anyone know what's going on?

Just wanted to advertise another new tool for FS9/FSX/XPLANE10 Its called LiveDispatch.org.. Its pretty cool tool too.. You can track each others flights while flying or others flying, It builds you a Dispatch form.. Most of all it has its own like ACARS system on it that you keep track of your in & out times & actual arrival times.. Efrain who built site from scratch, He's always tweaking it to keep it up to date & accurate.. It does not cost anything to view the site or try it out infact the latest update, he made a demo mode for those who want to actually try it out with limited use.. However what I was going to say is does not cost anything …

  8. Hi guys, Just wondering if the default Mozilla Firefox downloader is good enough for downloading large files? I'm going to purchase FTX Global in about a week and I've never had to download anything that big before. I think it's 4 gigs. I have very slow connection so I'll have to leave it overnight to download. My lame download speed is about 1 megabyte per minute. Even slower if other people at home are online on their computers.

You would think with all the different models and such out there it'd be easy to pick one. I know what I want but the 'package' as a whole never comes together. It's either to expensive, has a feature missing I'd like, plan too spendy, carrier doesn't carry the model, poor sound, bad reception, too big......the list goes on. My near 3 year old phone is still working but slowly dying and getting rather war torn. I'm tired of searching and reading online. Guess I'll have to do like I vote for politicians, pick the least of the evil.

I guess this is probably where i should post this... Nothing to do with FS, but just hoping some wizzard here might be able to help... The only ONLY MP3 player I've been able to find to meet specific requirements, is the old Creative 'Zen' range. I have a problem though... My wife listens only to audio books on it, but when I tranfer the books to the player, the tracks or chapters are always out of order. With hundreds of tracks, this is obviously a big issue. Doesn't matter how I change or edit the tag data, it won't put them in the right order. ALL my other MP3 players work perfectly, but the Creative software seems to list them in either a binary type of order, o…

  15. First the Spanish Train crash, then the Italian Bus crash, now a Swiss train crash: http://www.rte.ie/news/2013/0729/465318-switzerland-train-crash/ This has not been a good week... Hope the driver is found okay, but judging by the pic it doesn't seem likely... I've always been amazed at the ability of things like this to happen in groups of three. So often in my line of work in particular. In my entire career, if there've been two incidents within the space of a week in the company, there has always been a third one before the end of the next week. It's amazing really. Regards, Ró.

It's been 30 years since the legendary landing of an Air Canada B762 that ran out of fuel over Manitoba. On 23 July 1983, Air Canada flight 143 was cruising at FL410 (41,000ft), over Red Lake, when this new jet, ran out of fuel. Like any new aircraft, the B767 went through many teething problems as well. The amazing skill of this crew was truly remarkable and I'm sure you'll enjoy listening to Captain Pearson re-live this flight. On January 24th, 2008, the Gimli Glider took its final voyage, AC7067, from Montreal Trudeau to Tucson International Airport before its retirement in the Mojave Desert. We hope to bring her home one day...back to Gimili. RJ

Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum but I need some help on a problem when installing Orbx NZ South Island. I tried their forum but no luck! People on here are always so helpful! The downloaded zip file seems split in to 2 parts. An application file of 1.9 gig and something called a "2 File" of a further 1.2 gig. The install stops halfway and requests the location of Disc 2 or another file. Or it talks of a decompression issue. Any thoughts please friends?

Instead of having petitions to a company that won't do flight simulator, why not launch a fundraiser to hire Aces devs to make a new flight simulator for us? I know there are lots of fundraisers for these efforts (like the Wing Commander series) have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars plus they raise above what is needed. And then we can work out with Microsoft about ensuring the new FS11 would be compatible with FS10 Addons, especially payware aircraft. I don't know the legalities but having access to FS10 for new FS develop might infringe on Microsoft rights and it would be generous of them to get those rights waived. I would suppose the main reason …

  25. A Southwest 737 reported landing gear problems, before landing at LaGuardia, and upon touchdown the nose landing gear collapsed. My question is why on Earth if they knew they had a problem would they go into KLGA, when JFK with it's 14000ft runway is just a few miles South? Luckily the plane didn't end up in the drink, and there are no reported injuries. Edit: Here's a link to the story! Edit: There's some confusion regarding injuries. One report says they are some but they are minor!! http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/07/22/southwest-airlines-nose-gear-fails-laguardia/2576493/
