Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. We think that posting statistics about the community is interesting to most of our members. The one below is the Library bandwidth consumption over the last year. This is the Library only and does not include the forums or web site. Here you go: EDIT: I will add one more screen shot. This is a summary of the bandwidth used over the lifetime of the server. That dates from June of 2009, when we brought the system back online after the hack and contributions of the community enabled us to purchase new servers.

  5. We were forwarded the following PM sent through our system. This is the second incident of this type in the last three or four days. The first one was from a Nim-Rod from Hong Kong. This guy is from the UK: "Hello XXXXX, Loving your pics & videos. Don't take this the wrong way but if I was to offer you a sum of money how much would it take for you to leak me the beta installer. I will even sign a contract to never divulge where or who I received it off and or post any pictures or videos. If you don't want to then no problems. Cheers Simon Jenkins" This idiot was immediately banned (as was the first one) and will not ever be allowed back on AVSIM. He should be…

I know its a flight sim, and in the real world maybe you wouldn't be listening to music...but is it possible to play music in the background when flying? As soon as I open Infinite Flight, it kills the music I have going, it would be nice if that didn't happen. Using iPad 3 w/iOS 6.

I have recently recieved a PM from Mr. Allensworth informing me that I am expected to issue a public apology to SpiritFlyer for my response to his assumed actions in the thread titled "Beta Testers and....Bribes" http://forum.avsim.net/topic/417378-beta-testers-andbribes/ I strongly criticised SpiritFlyer for "banning" the Original Poster in what I thought was an outrageous over-reaction and misinterpretation of the O.P's tone and intent. As it turns it, the O.P. was neither temporarily "suspended" nor brought up in front of a review board to determine if a permanent "ban" would be placed upon him. I am informed by Mr. Allensworth that since these actions never a…

Am I alone in making up my own missions? I can't just fly Round, so I pick a plane and make a mission. Here are a few: Scheduled Passenger flight from Palm Springs to LA, or Canberra to Sidney. C-17 flying crashed UFO from NASA Crows Landing or EAFB out to the USN base on San Clemente Island. Nightly Royal Mail flight from East Midlands down to Stanstead. Cessna flight, carrying tourists out to fly three times around Alcatraz Flying the Cessna over the border to Tijuana ferrying drugs, and back again. Pretend the Bombadier is a RAF Sentinel, fly from one RAF base to another, on the way practice a sensor overflight of a civil airfield. There are plenty more …

I've had the iPad for about a year and only recently found X Plane and Infinite Flight. And I do love Infinite Flight, many thanks for such a fantastic app! I've been obsessed with aircraft since the age of 10, and my experience of flight sims has been disasterous. Every one I bought failed to successfuly work on my current PC, and I gave up trying fifteen years ago. IF is the flight sim I never thought Id get to play, it has those wonderful details that remind me this is pretty hardcore and not some arcade action game. Alot of people on fb seem to give you lists of things to add, but I know that you cant just add stuff in without a penalty, the iPad is not unlimite…

  12. I visited AirDailyX this morning to see that they have now disabled the comments on all their articles. The reason cited was that the hostile and negative comments aimed at developers were getting out of hand and were taking too much time to moderate. ADX had a very light handed approach to moderating and it's quite sad to see that this was used as a free rein for people to write some pretty nasty and abusive stuff about various developers that went way beyond constructive criticism. Why is it that when placed in front of a keyboard and monitor, under the veil of Internet anonymity so many of us become obnoxious cretins? Are we not shooting ourselves in the foot? …

  14. http://airfactsjournal.com/2013/08/drones-the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly/?utm_source=airfacts&utm_medium=email There’s a lot of talk about drones recently, some of it reasoned but most of it not. In the former category would be a report by the AUVSI (the trade group representing the unmanned systems industry) detailing the major impact drones could have on farming. In the latter category would be the town of Deer Trail, Colorado, which announced plans to legalize the hunting of drones by its citizens. Pilots aren’t much better than the general public, with some declaring drones the saviors of personal air transportation and others declaring them the biggest threat …

The avionics systems and subscription services have limitations and may not show real-time weather and temporary flight restriction information.

  18. I have become a huge fan of Garmin Pilot (for Android and iPad) and ran up against an issue. If you are a subscriber to the annual Garmin Pilot "Full Subscription", you have access to a tremendous amount of charts (stunning amount, actually). These charts and graphs would encompass the 50 United States, and if you elect to download them ALL to your device (Android Phone or Android Tablet), you are talking total data size over 8GB. For most of us, that's a bit crowded if you want to store it all on your handheld device's "ROM" (built in memory), but only a slice of the (up to) 64GB of SD Micro Card storage available if you purchased it for your device. The 'rub' …

Worth a listen for anyone interested. ^_^ Quite liberal though with their use of the phrase "Control the Aircraft"... Regards, Ró.

Hi, there. I'm a newly-minted diving enthusiast and I discovered your game through an article in a diving magazine. I immediately purchased a copy and installed it excitedly, only to have it crash.. and crash.. and crash. The first time I started it, I got as far as signing in and seeing the "Downloading content" bar in the lower right corner. It crashed to desktop upon completion. The next time, I got as far as the "Verifying content" bar in the lower right corner. It, again, crashed upon completion. The third and fourth times, I got to the next screen about "Chuuk Lagoon" only to have it crash to desktop. I'm fairly upset about this and I just want to play t…

  21. A 26 year old pilot rented an aircraft from Markham Airport and decided to buzz his friends house in Richmond hill (Toronto Suburbs). He is now charged with dangerous operation of an aircraft and could face 5 years in prison. neighbours called police who thought he may have had engine problems so they started closing streets so he could land. A police cruiser went to Markham Airport and arrested him when he landed. Here is a youtube video of his stunt, you can see 3 flybys, best footage starts about 30 seconds in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyWxGn1dD4A CBC New Story: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2013/08/27/toronto-richmond-hill-plane-buzzes-ne…

  25. Hello fellow pilots! As it says in the title I am going to start a new channel all about aviation. I will upload the videos taken from my flights in real life, as well as P3D and XPX. I need a little help with a name, since I will keep this channel for a long time and hopefully one day upload videos taken from the cockpit of an airliner. Any help would be appreciated!
