I have this question about United's new routes from SFO-SYD. I know for routes like that, airlines would most likely use the LR variants. For example, Delta and Air Canada. But United is using the 200ER variant. My question is, does the ER have capability and range for that flight? I would've never imagined the ER variant on a long haul over the pacific like that.

Saw this after looking at the Cargo Pilots video posted. Great to see who really started the whole Airline revolution and how pro or con the 747 affected the golden age of airline travel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5w62jHUovM

In regards to another post about Basic Airmanship needing to be enforced on flight simulators I bring you my thoughts on what I think needs to be focused on a bit more... I call it "Simmanship". Simmanship is about helping out fellow simmers, educating them instead of bashing them over the head, acting as a mentor if you would. There are many new people that join the Flight Simulation community every day through Microsoft Flight (yes while not really a simulator it is a gateway and thus is valid), X-Plane, FSX, FS9, and FlightGear (purposely left out P3D as I don't think new people even know what P3D is). It should be our duty as seasoned sim and for some real aviator…

Are there any specific SOPS in the Carribean regarding cruising flight levels? I recently took 2 flights, KFLL-MDPC and MDSD-KFLL. On the former flight, we cruised at FL 350, but about halfway into the flight, we descended to FL 340 (I felt the descent, and also confirmed this on Flightaware). On the return flight, we were at FL 340 for the cruise, and at a certain point, changed our cruise to FL 360 (I felt the climb and confirmed on Flightaware also). I obviously know of step climbs, but what was the reason for the descent? I assumed to avoid some weather that was in the area, but is there a specific procedure I'm missing here for the Caribbean? Also, the change in crui…

Hi folks, sitting on board or on the ground I wonder that aircrafts seemingly cut through clouds without any effect. Despite the fact that they displace air and moisture by their bodies and induce a lot of turbulence by fuselage, wings, and wing tips, almost nothing can be seen from this. Except trail cons produced by the plane itself give us a hint, but you know what I mean. But I remember a photograph I made back in 2005 from the displacement and turbulence behind a Fokker 50 or so. After their take-off in EDDT they passed an apparently very thin cloud layer, and for the first time I could see what is was missing (so desperately 8^)... On the right ha…

Hi everyone, I was just thinking the other day about why I love Flight Simulators. I generally like to play video games with a rich storyline and/or a lot of action (i.e. Mass Effect, Zelda, Skyrim). I currently play FSX and other than the missions, it does not offer any of those. But for some reason I still always go back to it and watch people's flight sim movies on Youtube. I guess I just like the idea of being able to go anywhere in the world and the challenge of getting there safely. So i just wanted to hear what everyone else had to say on this - why do YOU play flight sims? I'd love to hear. Thanks!

Greetings fellow community members, I was just on YouTube and found this great Cargo Pilot Documentary. It is around 10 minutes long and goes over the background of a captain who flies the B747 Cargo. Let me know what you think of it, and enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xf3vqaF_EY

GEX is new for sale on aerosoft.com. To buy the entire world would be over $200.00. I hope anybody who considers buying these will look at FTXG! It is so so so much better! There is no comparison based on price or quality. GEX suddenly became very expensive. I enjoyed GEX. Thank you. But in 2013 I highly recommend FTXG...it will change your FSX globally!

Hey people! How do you figure out where which airline parks at which gate at which airport? For example where do the Thompson mainly park at London Gatwick? Hope this makes sense to you! I've tried researching online but no avail, the only thing I've managed to find is certain YouTube uploaders actually posts which gate there depart from! But that's the rare few that I have found! Cheers! Sam Book

Before the last update from the Play store i had 5-6 planes. After the update i am now just left with the Cessna 172 and have no option for other planes or maps.

Has anyone more ideas about the development in SWISS Longhaul-fleet? They already ordered 6 777W for 2016 - to retire the oldest A343. So 9 other would remain. It would be attractive for SWISS to decide buying the 777X or 787-10 - WHY? The SWISS pilots are separated in an Airbus and one Avro RJ (+ 777 Team from 2016) - the fact is that the Airbus pilots have higher salaries. Would make sense for me, for you too? Let's discuss...

It appears 3 Dreamliners were found to have had the wiring for the engine fire extinguishers cross-wired. ANA is carrying out inspections in all its fleet as well as JAL. Very concerning, in 1989 some 95 Boeing aircraft were reported to the FAA for having wiring incorrectly set up (mostly cross-wiring). The FAA ordered inspections of some 740 Boeing 737s, 747s, 767s and 757s at the time.

Hey guys, This is just purely out of interest, but I have been trying to understand the distinctions and provisions of a CPL licence, versus a ATPL (or fATPL if it's pre-career hours). For the purpose of this, I'm talking about a CPL licence with "all the baggage" eg IR, Night, MEL, etc. So if I'm right, a CPL holder (with appropriate endorsements) could fly an 'air taxi service' let's say a Cessna 206, that is operated commercially, eg for money. A CPL holder could also fly a DHC6 Twin Otter that was again used as part of a charter operation..... is that right? ......... But they would need a ATPL licence to fly the same DHC6 aircraft but for an 'airline'…

If you think about it they could just expand gatwick, give it anothor runway and let heathrow be. They also could have shortened their old third runway so the only thing crossing will be approach, ATC can handle that. They also could expand stanstead. BTW gatwick al reddy has to runways right?
