This site seems to be down as I'm getting a 404 error. I also use http://metar.vatsim.net/metar.php for my weather downloads. That is also returning a 404 error. Have these addresses changed?

Ready to upgrade to bigger screen dedicated to FSX but want to be careful about picture quality. Is a monitor always better than a TV? And does a TV/Monitor need to be 1920x1080? I'm thinkin the max I would want is 32 in. What do you recommend for FSX? TV or monitor. Big TVs are cheaper but how does this effect the FPS, video card, etc.?

Have the approaches been changed at Funchal? I see from updated Navdata for FSX that many of the circling fixes have been removed.

During my ten years of conducting research for my book "From The Ground Up" (an unpublished book detailing the actual history considering "ALL" of the early pioneers of flight), I ran across a number of quotes, some of which I found interesting, some profound, while others simply humorous, so I would like to share with you some of my personal favorites: "There is an art, or rather a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss!" –Douglas Adams (English humorist and novelist) "The optimist invented the airplane, while the pessimist invented the parachute." –George Barnard Shaw (Irish Playwright) "With the earliest a…

Maybe this is a question more appropriate for airliners.net, but since I'm not a member over there, I thought I would pose the question here. On the MD-11 you have the longitudinal stability assist, which also includes an attitude hold feature within some pitch limits. I've noticed that real MD-11 pilots, in discussion of Control Wheel Steering are keen to point out that the MD-11 has optional CWS in the Roll axis ONLY, which some operators have disabled, because they consider it a pain. Yet for all practical purposes, couldn't an airplane that automatically holds a pitch attitude using automated elevator and trim inputs, be considered to have Pitch CWS. You point the…

How do you remember people here on AVSIM? Is it: By their picture? By their username? By their forum signature? Or all of the above? Personally for me it is mostly #1.

I own practically all Captain Sim products. In the past, I have been guilty, by association, of jumping onto the bash-CaptainSim bandwagon. I'm sorry CaptainSim! Ever since I had to do a complete reinstall of FSX and all its addons (took 2 full days, and a couple weeks of "mopping-up" to complete), MY CAPTAINSIM ADDONS ARE WORKING FLAWLESSLY leading me to believe that most of the previous problems I had with CS were due to my own systems faulty setup. The glaring exception to the previous statement is the 777 which still needs updates. The 707,727,737, and 757 have PMDG-like VCs and the most amazing and realistic textures inside and out. There is no one who …

Hey guys! I just joined the Avsim forums about 20 minutes ago, and I hope I am posting in the right section. I have been on the Forums for quite awhile, but never got around to registering.. I was stoked when my username was available, I didn't think it would be, because Bombardier is my favorite airplane company. Anyways, my greatest aspect is I am very knowledgeable about FSX crashes, and errors, and why they happen, and I hope to help people experiencing problems with FSX. I really like solving problems! If you have a question, fell free to ask me, otherwise, I say hello to all!

Over the past couple of years I have indulged in an side project of really getting to grips with helicopters in FS.Well on Thursday I finally completed a thoroughly enjoyable heli flight. And the sim was running great and looking great as I cruised from Heathrow to London City in the Dodosim over FTX England. I even think my passengers false teeth would have remained in place when I touched down. Yay! Then the PC froze..completely. Had to power off. To cut a long story short I'm now doing battle with the Windows clean install freezing problem and working through the wealth of suggestions on the web. Wonder if I'll ever get it working again?...But I did get that one succe…

I was watching the show air disaster's on TV and they were talking about the next gen system and how radar is very unreliable in certain areas. They were showing this display that shows you all the other ac and there call sign, speed, and course. It also shares this info with atc and other ground stations. I realize this is just one small area of NextGen but Is this been implemented wide stream on airliners? Is this TCAS or ADSB? Without showing the contacts info?

Not sure which pilot it was but he had an engine fire in a DC-3, turned back to the airport, clipped some trees before making a belly landing short of the runway. 21 passengers and 3 crew on board and everyone is safe http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/story/2013/08/19/north-yellowknife-air-crash.html

Over in the FSX thread they've been discussing "The Importance of MUSIC in the Sim", and I got to thinking... does the airplane you're flying influence the type of music you listen to in the Sim? For example some listen to 40's music, including SInatra and the like, when they're flying Classic airplanes like the DC-3. Others listen to 60's and 70's Rock, some (like myself) like Jazz or Blues. Anyone listen to Heavy Metal when you're flying your Superbug or Warthog? Or maybe some Easy Listening whilst piloting your Bo' into LAX on a clear, starry night? I was just wondering if any of you use the airplane or flight to influence your musical choices; or perhaps y…

Any thought on adding helicopters in the future? Also, is there a reason autopilot wasn't added to any of the fighter jets with the exception of the A-10? Otherwise, great simulator!

So the Sun let loose a pretty strong CME today, and we are still waiting for the waves of another that let loose a few days ago. If you're not familiar with the Carrington Event, Click Here. It was an event long before the age of flight where a CME struck the earth and our magnetosphere and brought all electrics and telegraph systems down. There are a lot of doomtards on another forum I visit who decided to start the topic of discussing what they think would happen to aircraft flying if we had another Carrington event. I've been laughing for a good few minutes here reading some of their views. The question is "What would happen to the planes in the sky?". "N…

I'm curious if there are any real life captain's here who fly commercial airliners, like for United, Cathay Pacific, etc. How much do they make a year? When I was younger I always wanted to become a pilot. However I am now 37, is it too late for me to become one? I want to fly commercial airliners such as the 777. But I think it's too late for that. :(
