I love the guys that do this stuff. And yes, probably some ladies too. His design is based on the shape of the JWST.

Anyone know what’s happened to the Mutley’s Hangar flight simulation website and forum? Seems to have disappeared. Cheers.

https://postimg.cc/BXCBzTw1 https://postimg.cc/GHSxrLdc https://postimg.cc/t7Bhtq1h CONSOL (Question 5), there's a Nav Aid from the past! Even in the 70's was a bit dated, although there were ground stations in Norway, Spain, and Ireland. It was cheap for the aircraft - just needed a basic radio, and some charts. By counting dots and dashes you could place yourself along a position line printed on the map, tune in another couple of stations, and you've got a fix, but accuracy measured in miles at long ranges.

Is he right or wrong?, well I kind of agree. Mods feel free to move to the appropriate forum if needed but thought I would share it here first.

Going through my loft recently. came across some exam papers for when I was revising for my Airline Transport Pilots Licence back in the 70's (called ATP, I think in many countries). The UK Civil Aviation Authority would let you buy previous papers, just for practice, no answers suppled, but still useful. Actually, now they seem pretty tough for me, wouldn't have a chance of answering most of the question! They were divided into various sections: NAVIGATION GENERAL NAVIGATION PLOTTING NAVIGATION INSTRUMENTS NAVIGATION RADIO AIDS NAVIGATION FLIGHT PLANNING METEOROLOGY THEORY METEOROLOGY PRACTICAL Will post some examples over the next week…

Amazon said year 3 would be the last. But the ratings were higher than even The Rings of Power. And so we now have Season 4, and Amazon says season 5 next year. So far just episode 1-4 is out. https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B0DV86X5TR/ref=atv_dp_season_select_s4

Kerbal plane program? Looks pretty cool, and for a very cheap price. I wondered once upon a time if anyone would ever make a sim with these types of graphics. I assume the performance is pretty high even on potato computers. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2660460/Aviassembly/

Nice to see the role reversal. The French lady is the DIY expert and the English guy the assistant. 👍

Flight Sim First Officer (FSFO) is introducing an AI Co-Pilot kingm56 — Yesterday at 01:41 @everyone @everyone Friends SFOV6 is advancing at an incredible pace! This week, I successfully implemented RAAS along with a powerful new sound recorder, allowing all users to create their own sound sets. While its primary use is for me to record the famous English 1 sound set (i.e., Matt), the functionality is available to everyone. Both features are performing significantly better than those in V5. For example, RAAS now detects long/deep landings and recognizes when you’re crossing a runway. There’s even a…

Hello everyone. Tomorrow I'm flying to Colombia and Panama for a couple of weeks. For keeping my sanity 😝, I was going to pay for a month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, so that I could run MSFS (either 2020 or 2024) in the cloud, from my tablet while I'm away from home. However, I found Xbox Cloud Gaming is not available in either Colombia or Panama 😭 Any other mobile/cloud flight simulators you recommend? The ones I found in Google Play Store (X-plane, Infinite Flight and Aerofly FS) are not that well rated (anything between 3.5 and 4.0 out of 5). I mostly fly airliners, but sometimes I do a quick trip around in a single piston plane.

What amazing stuff. Wood that's twice as strong as steel. 80% lighter than steel and half the cost! Warning! Expect naughty comments from Charlie. He won't be able to resist.

I guess this one should go first 😃 (Rene Clair made this movie below starring Dick Powell and Linda Darnell: He also made the one below (Veronica Lake's image was painted on many WWII fighter planes) All of these are available on Amazon Prime, but also the whole movies are free on Youtube (with adds).

I’ve just finished watching a documentary about the 2015 Germanwings crash. It opened my eyes to a possible alternative reason the aircraft experienced a controlled descent into terrain. The main investigation into this alternative theory was conducted by Simon Hradecky, he of SubLocic fame. I’m sure many older members will remember that sim and Simon. Anyway, if it’s available in your country try watching it. It is on Sky in the UK but was in German with subtitles so should be available on other platforms. Some interesting observations… 1) The autopilot altitude was changed from 38000 ft to 100ft in just one second. It proved impossible for a pilot to…

So I've resisted the AI bandwagon thing for philosophical reasons, e.g., I still want to think for myself and I'm not jazzed about contributing to Skynet eventually becoming self aware Terminator style. That said, I was dealing with a work issue recently and a colleague of mine said, "let's see what an AI thinks" and honestly, it gave a pretty good answer lol. So here I am. I have asked my AMZN Alexa, "what is the approach speed for [insert plane here]" occasionally. That's about it to date. So I replaced my RTX 5080 with a 5090. Still have the 5080. I also have some decent PC stuff from my old PC, e.g., a very good 360 radiator (hardware labs), various wat…
