And as good luck would have it, return fire towards Barry Lyndon, wounds the gentleman next to him who in gratitude would become his Patron thereby elevating Barry's position if life. Only of course not luck because Barry had this planned, gambling that the worthy next to him would fall before he did. Risky and rewarding. An Irish lad, without prospects, rises by scheming, up to nobility. An old Victorian, William Makepeace Thackeray, wrote 2 famous books where the main character rises from lowly station up higher. Barry Lyndon (an Irish farm lad) and Vanity Faire (a school girl Becky Sharp). This movie directed by Stanley Kubrik won 4 Oscars.…

There's a nice article about AI in the WSJ from the author of "Sapiens". My three main takeaways from it (almost everything you ever wanted to know about AI but were afraid, scared or too shy to ask) --Harari said: 1. For the first time in tens of thousands of years, humanity has competition. The most important thing to know about AI is that it is not a tool, it is an agent, in the sense that it can make decisions independently of us. It can invent new ideas. It can learn and change by itself. All previous human inventions, whether the printing press or the atom bomb, are tools that empower us. They need us because a printing press cannot w…

Just listened to this podcast about Clair Patterson (who calculated the age of the Earth) and thought it was interesting. Description from Youtube: From the Radiolab podcast: After helping to create the atomic bomb, chemist Clair Patterson embarks on a quest of redemption to stop humanity from quietly poisoning the planet. In this episode we have a story about the sometimes obvious but sometimes sneaky effects of the way that we humans rearrange the elemental stuff around us. Reporter Avir Mitra brings us a story about how Clair Patterson's relentless pursuit of a deep truth about the Earth led to an obsession with lead that really changed the very air we breath…

One guy in the crowd sees the camera and hams it up. Of course it's all fake, staged. It was Charlie's first appearance. But the audience loved the little guy and his career started.

You don't need to install any app nor extension. Windows 10 and 11 already has installed the app with Windows. It's the Snipping Tool which most of you already know about. It saves whatever is happening on your screen, or your designated part of your screen, until you stop the recording by clicking an icon. Of course it can save the sound too (optional). On places like Youtube most browsers have tools to quickly download a Youtube video. (not Chrome because it is owned by Google which also owns Youtube). But Windows Snipping Tool records any video in real time. So if you want to DL an hour video, then the video has to be playing on your screen for that hour. At the e…
