Hear me out … the concept I proposed many years ago to the “big 3” flight simulation entities (Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, Laminar). Come up with a unified SDK that would allow aircraft, scenery, and airports to be produced ONCE (by a developer/modeler) but able to distribute their product to ALL platforms supporting the unified SDK. This has many positives: 1. Developer/Modeler only has to perform their scenery/aircraft/airports creation task once and only once 2. Sales volume increases for the developer/modeler 3. User’s preferred platform of choice will have the same proliferation of content as any other participating FS platform 4. More c…

As a science fiction fan I remember reading stories about Smart Homes and digital assistants that kept track of things for you and spoke to you as if they were a sort of computer Butler Somehow I forgot about that type of story, since I haven't seen anything like that for several years, but now that I think about it it seems that real life has caught up to science fiction without me even noticing I have Alexa in the house, but it doesn't really have a personality, it's more like a vacuum cleaner or something. This, on the other hand.... Why am I feeling mildly uncomfortable? And where is this going?

1873. The Civil War has only ended 8 years ago. To get to Lorreto, New Mexico, it takes a long trip on the Sante Fe trail by covered wagon, the railroads have not arrived in New Mexico yet. An archbishop in Lorreto hires an architect firm from France to come and build a planned cathedral for a girls school way out there. The cathedral is finished in a few short years but an access to the high loft is not started as the architect has died. As nuns will do, they pray to a saint and of course chose the one who they know was a carpenter, Saint Joseph, the husband of Mary. Now according to the old newspapers, in a few short weeks a spiral staircase is built by a stra…

They're rolling out this new Amazon division in Los Angeles, California. Then will expand nationwide. Will it go internationally? (At 6:34 time mark in this video): I would love to see Jeff Bezos wearing a cowboy hat selling used cars on TV commercials during football games. Jeff and his dog Spot !

Imagine going to a Church Sunday night concert in the late 1700's in Weimar and hearing this! The parishioners would be thinking (was Johann drunk when he composed this)!?

Hello. I'm upgrading building a new PC, nothing fancy, just a humble PC spec. There are so many reviews and benchmark sites out there. So when you guys are looking at new CPUs or GPUs, where do you usually go for reliable info? Actually, MSFS 2020/2024 can be a powerful benchmarking platform due to its AAA nature. And does anyone use Intel Arc GPU?

Modern stuff I'm sure is lit somewhere, but so often in older sim planes, none of the interior lights work until the battery switch is turned on. On a dark night, I envision pilots stumbling and feeling around the cockpit as they enter it. Did the pilots all carry and use a flashlight when entering a cold and dark airliner cockpit that is parked way out from any airport hookups?

Just something that randomly occurred to me, and in the age of the internet was pretty easy to get some (hopefully fairly accurate) numbers... For years I've seen fellow Avsim forum members mention, usually with pride, that they don't play videogames; or that their computers are completely devoted to flightsims, which many have vociferously (and even angrily) denied are games, despite any contrary evidence. Many adults I've known especially females also claim not to be that interested in videogames, at least not on computers, though contrarily, almost all have an Xbox or Playstation connected somewhere in the house, and are quite handy with those controllers whe…

You know, there are a lot of things in the Universe to make one feel small, but somehow, knowing that this thing would appear so huge from freaking 4 lightyears away, incidentally frying the Earth like a strip of bacon from that distance is...... chilling. Yeesh!!

So I turned on the TV and randomly searched for something to watch and landed at ESPN and saw this: (video is from a previous race six years ago) As Yakov Smirnoff used to say, “What a country!”
