Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. A few 1950's users might suspect that Asobo supposedly repairing their sim was just a scam. ----- And then later in the game room as the anger builds...

A major milestone for the project this week, as the FAA and BLM are moving forward with a notice of intent to prepare the Environmental Impact Statement for the new airport. For those who don't know, the proposed location is 23 miles south of the Vegas strip along Interstate 15. The airport will have two runways - 18L-36R will be 12,000 ft and 18R-36L will be 15,000 ft. Still a long way away (the airport is estimated to be complete in 2037) but it will be nice to have a new airport to fly into. Looking at the location of the airport below, 36R and 36L should be an easy straight-in shot. For 18L and 18R, there could be some interesting approaches, as they se…

Hello everyone. This is my first post on this forum, after 11 years of learning from you all and having introduced myself in the introductions forum a few minutes ago. I started in flight simulation with Flight Simulator and stayed there for many years. Until I switched to P3D. Now I'm on v5.4. I bought MSFS 2020 from the Microsoft store since it was on sale for €34. Well, to see it. After 15 days, I've already formed an opinion. MSFS is a game, a good game with very good graphics and performance. P3D v5.4 is a FLIGHT SIMULATOR, and I'd add PROFESSIONAL. I'll use MSFS sometime for a short low-altitude flight somewhere interesting. P3D for simulation is the cl…

Earlier films were curiosities that didn't really tell a story, or at least one long enough to get into. This one had a plot and was 10 minutes long. Based on 2 Jules Verne novels. Originally it was in color and so is this. 1902 A.D. https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B0B8QLTD4F

With Biden's diagnosis of prostate cancer, I guess that opens it up to talk about. My PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) which should be around 4 got up to 16, and my urologist put me on Bicalutamide. Basically, I have the same thing Biden does, and I'm being treated the same way he will be, with "hormone therapy." I'm told that this is something you die "with", but not "from." I just ignore it as my PSA is back down under 2. This type of cancer feeds on testosterone. Bicalutamide does not prevent the production of testosterone, but blocks its absorption. This keeps the cancer from growing. It also alters the estrogen/testosterone balance in the body and you can g…

My Facebook feed has numerous videos of airliners taking off from extremely short runways (including aircraft carriers!) and difficult landings. Since most of these seem to be filmed from a chase plane following close behind or aside the aircraft, it seems unlikely in real life. I am wondering if they are from a very realistic flightsim like MSFS2020 or MSFS2024? Any thoughts on this?

Scientists track down mutation that makes orange cats orange Below is a photo of one of my orange boys, Karmellow. I entered this room just to the right of this photo and didn't see him until I turned around. Not expecting to see him there combined with the lighting made it kind of spooky, like he was paying a visit from the spirit world. He jumped up there from a dresser that's out of the frame to the left:

Metal detecting. A cliche for being a nerd hobby. IMDB gives "Detectorists" series a user rating of 8.6 which is very high. Was a 3 year series with 6 half hour episodes per year. On Prime, there is a one week trial of Acorn channel that will let you see them all free. https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B014P61XIW/

For me, going back to the seventies and my all time favorites, I would say Niki Lauda and Ronnie Peterson. I was lucky enough to see Ronnie Peterson drive a couple of different classes at Watkins Glen, the REAL Watkins Glen with the "boot". I remember him driving a BMW in the six hour endurance race and he out drove everyone in the field, he started last due to a backup car. He was up to second place in a few laps if I remember correctly. Unfortunately for him, the Porsche 935 twin turbo was a rocket ship on the straightaways. I would have to say that Ronnie Peterson is probably my ATF road course driver/racer. Anyone else who remembers this era please chime in. …
