Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. Hi all – I’ve been flight simming for a little bit now and always found myself juggling tools during flights: finding checklists, using different converters, and logging flights all over the place. So I built a little side project: a mobile app that brings it all into one place – flight logs, interactive checklists, and unit converters. Just trying to simplify the process and keep everything in one spot while flying. It’s called FlyRight, and it’s totally free (iOS & Android). I’d love to hear if anyone else here would find something like this useful – and what features you'd want in a flight sim companion. App Store (iOS): https://apps.apple.com/us/a…

  3. Jeez... I can't figure out if I'm just more alert to this type of thing right now, or if we really are having a string of bad luck.... Condolences to the family and friends.

Hi All, So I noticed on Flightradar24 that a 737 landed with pretty much a direct 11kt tailwind. Why would it do that as opposed to landing the opposite direction into the wind? Just peaked my curiosity. No obstacles from the other direction. Not to mention that the runway is less than 5,200’ long! ??? Landed RWY 33L winds were 15011G23 Thanks, MM

Check out the negative G at 3:02. That must have been uncomfortable.

At first, I thought this was cool, then I sorta frowned and thought a lot of it looked kinda crowded, then I decided it was an unsafe death trap..... Especially when I saw the companies build their own buses by hand from scratch. https://youtu.be/3op_YotGHG8?si=NkMb5TixQixOyJwB

You know you have been playing too long when you see the things like the nondescript colorless rectangle buildings from the air and think "Looks like MSFS".

  16. Have a look at this shot showing the position of the jet stream at 18:00Z today. It’s referred to as an omega block due to its similarity to the Greek letter Omega. This, plus the large high centred over Scandinavia and later, the British Isles, has resulted in cloudless skies over the majority of the country. I cannot recall such an extended period of cloudless skies in one of the cloudiest areas of Europe. What a contrast to the overcast skies last November and again in February. My solar panels think Christmas has arrived! 😁🌞

  21. It's not just you. It's Hollywood, baby! A couple hundred messages responded to his video agreeing that if watching at home, then when you turn up volume to hear the spoken words, then the background music and sound effects blow out the speakers. It is not your hearing that is at fault. EDIT: And this does not happen with older movies.

  22. Now? Bickerfest after bickerfest over MSFS2020 vs MSFS2024. Always negative, seldom enlightening. I’ve been a site member in one screen name or another for well over 20 years. This ain’t the Avsim I fondly remember. My 2 cents. -B
