Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. Back on 5 September 2023 I was a passenger in a friend’s Piper PA28-181 Archer II. We departed Harwarden airport in North Wales and flew over the Wirral, crossing over Liverpool before a circuit of both Everton and Liverpool football grounds. The flight continued up the west coast passing Blackpool, the Lake District before landing at Carlisle. The day was cloudless with a light wind from the east. A rare day. Max temp was 28°C (82°F). So a very warm day for these latitudes. There was a large area of high pressure over the country with pressure around 1020hPa (30.05”). Now to my point. Around 1,500ft the turbulence from ground warming was quite significant.…

The performance of the Typhoon is astonishing. None of this flying down the runway to gain speed, oh no, off the ground and then pull straight up into the vertical.

TBH I haven't been using liveATC often if at all. However, I was lately checking out some RL ATC and noticed that all statinons at EHAM (Amsterdam) are down. Does anyone know the reason and if this is permanent or if they will come online one day?

I had a good look at this extraordinary plane, the A350 (the real airplane), inspired by this IniBuilds video, because, coincidentally, I finished today several readings evoking French aviation pioneers (Jean Mermoz, Saint-Exupery, Guillaumet, etc), written by those who worked, flew, met with them, Joseph Kessel among others. Then I paused, and thought: We owe so much to these men who risked - and often lost - their lives for what we take today as a given! How many people know that these pilots flew before 1930 on airplanes made of wood and fabric, with no cockpit, but an open space with no protection from rain, winds and snow, no other instruments than a watch,…

Anybody attempted to watch it. I tried but couldn't stand more than 15 minutes. Junk! Michelle Yeoh, who seems to be a decent actor in other things, totally over does it, way over the top. And what's with the format, are they trying to copy Guy Ritchie, or something? Such a shame. Another lost opportunity. Will Star Trek ever be what it was?

A public service message, just in case Earlier, in another thread, I mentioned that the only place that seemed to have the new 50-series graphics cards was Ebay. Later in the day, a vague memory resurfaced from the days of the 40-series debacle, and I did some quick searching. Did not take me long at all to find multiple examples of what I was looking for: Suspicious things about the offer below: Price too low. Scalpers are asking up to 7K for these cards Seller explicitly does not accept returns. Unobtrusive admonition to read the card description The card description: Read the disclaimer!! CAVEAT EMPTOR!…

Yesterday morning, this is what appeared on my monitor(s): Now I'm certainly not stupid, nor is anything so critical that it needs rescue. I'll simply replace the C hard disk, install a clean copy of Win 11, and begin downloading my radio's software and call it done. Fortunately, Windows Edge was not affected at all. So at least I still have web access to both the internet and my email. As a matter of caution, immediately following this post I'll change passwords for critical sites, beginning with my bank!
