Hangar Chat

Yup! Once again, I randomly clicked, and then ended up mesmerized...... A lot of the technical part I kind of knew, but the details and the history is the kind of edumacational that makes me pull out the popcorn and sit back. And now I'm thinking about the spherical aberration on my Quest 3

Just got back from NZ after a flight on a Qantas A380. As I was an assisted passenger, I remained on board for a little while after landing at Sydnet and was lucky enough to chat to the Captain. I mentioned that I had followed the flight on the on-board TV and noticed that the A380 had not slowed at all until about 5000'. After answering how I knew that "rule", he told me that it was quite normal at Sydney for ATC to instruct the larger planes to maintain their speed until much lower than 10k feet. Tell that to Radar Contact V4 and other simulator programs!

Was bored tonight so took a pic of my current setup and thought I would share. Newest additions are the WinWing MCDU and EFIS. Also added a 10.3" 3rd monitor for MFD and PFD. With the help of the two streamdecks, I'm almost completely independent of the entire virtual cockpit. I like this setup cause I don't really lose my desk - the flight stand slides left when not in use and back over when I'm flying. Would love to see your setup too!

Recently, I was watching a YouTube video following a 757 flight to an airport in Louisiana that I had never heard of for some maintenance or conversion work. I am getting a little bored doing pax or cargo flights to the standard airports like LAX, Sydney, London, etc. So are there any lesser-known airports the 777 might fly into either for cargo ops or for maintenance? I know they are built at Paime field and will go back there for maintenance but I am curious if there are any other places. Thanks

When it rains, it pours... Apparently a Lear 55 has crashed into a Philadelphia neighborhood minutes after departing KPNE (Northeast Philly). Multiple structures on fire.

Well..... The little boy in me, who brutally turned magnifying-glass-focused solar death beams on defenseless ants, worms and etc with zero remorse would be/is fascinated by seeing the complexity and extent of this ant colony. The older, more empathic and thoughtful me is a bit sad at the unnecessary deaths of millions of ants who were simply minding their own business.

Hello fellow pilots, I’m conducting research for my master’s thesis on how different monetization models already established in the broader gaming world, would be perceived and accepted by users if applied to flight simulators. Since the market has traditionally relied on the pay-once model, I’m exploring how users would react if alternative models were introduced. I’m focusing on three potential models: ✈ Subscription Model – Recurring payments for continued access and updates. ✈ Free-to-Play with Microtransactions – Free access with optional paid content. ✈ User-Generated Content (UGC) Model – Paying for community-created add-ons and expansions. …

Kim Kardashian got a bargain ceremony for only 600 million USD. Probably saved 3 or 4 hundred million right off the start of the marriage! If you have the standard Windows 11 search box, the daily icon reminds the anniversary of Pride and Predjudice. Which might mainly be of those interested in classic novels, especially ladies. I was surprised to learn that Anna Chancellor who plays Caroline Bingley in the 1995 BBC version is the closest living relative of Jane Austen and she does look quite a lot like her. But she is a naughty vilaine in the story.
