I have P3D4. I have everything Orbx, Global, Vector, Regions, Airports some 90+, OpenLC and UTX. I am intrigued about Black Marbles suite of products. I will not invest a penny for their products unless I understand the implications, basically answering my questions below. Myself and most folks own combinations of Orbx Global, Vector, Regions, Airports, OpenLC and some like me use UTX (because we think its better than Vector). I have tried to follow the Black Marble release thread and the Black Marble "is this how FTX Vector should be setup" tread by Chris Bell. Right now I am totally and utterly confused as to: 1. What products for Black Marble t…

If anyone is up in the 'Grim North of England' and going to this event, I'll be there. http://avroheritagemuseum.co.uk/avro-air-fair-sunday-6th-august/ Be worth it just to see a couple of rare old bombers go over: the BBMF Avro Lancaster and an Avro Anson too, and of course the museum has an Avro Vulcan which is well worth a poke around as well. The postcode is SK7 1QR if you're coming a long way and using Sat Nav. Be aware that traffic can be bad as there is a load of construction work going on around the borough of Stockport and quite a few roads are closed off, not least because a new motorway bypass is currently under construction right near EGCD's location.…

As the title states, Black Marble Volumetric Lighting. I'm working on size and distance apart. Still need to tweak the saturation and bloom a bit. If you enjoy flying at dawn, dusk and/or at night, this is a program you should give SERIOUS consideration to adding to your collection of addons. As the video shows, its beautiful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVttcH9R8MA My favorite part starts at 2:40 into the video, is it real?.

Note to Flight Sim World devs: I do like the new clouds and think they would look much better if the edge animation was slowed way down. As it is, it is much too fast and causes the creepy look my video portrays. Link to my creepy cloud video thread here at Avsim:

A Discord channel has been started. You are welcome to join. We just ask that people are courteous. Multiplayer, Mission Editor and discussions about FSW. It's been great so far with everyone sharing their thoughts about the Sim. If you don't have Discord, it is an easy download and signup. It's been mentioned in Forbe's magazine as the go to place for game chatting and talking. I believe it has surpassed Teamspeak, which i have a server for. We are going to set up a dedicated server hopefully soon. Hope to see you there. https://discord.gg/2nWM57R 24 people and growing...

This Boeing test flight, a B788, spent the last 14 to 15 hours drawing a massive B788 over the United States. Very nice Boeing https://www.flightradar24.com/BOE004/e54ad6b

I've been involved in flight simulation since about 1984 when I first got Sublogic's flight simulator for my Commodore 64, and I still marvel at how far this hobby has come. Much of the advancement in flight simulation has come from the commercial side of things, i.e. the payware flight simulation software developers, aircraft developers, scenery developers, etc., and we should all be grateful for these folks, otherwise our hobby would have stalled years ago. Having said all that, I think it's about time that we express some gratitude to the many freeware developers out there who devote so much of their time and effort to make our hobby richer and better and never a…

How often have you been upgrading you sim PC? Have you been upgrading a bit at a time or replacing pretty much the whole machine? I've just ordered a new gaming machine. My previous machine was purchased (slightly used) exactly 4 years ago. It was a 3570k machine with a GTX 680. It got a midlife upgrade to a GTX 980 and an extra 8 GB of memory about 18 months ago. I decided yesterday to pop for a new machine with a 7700k and GTX 1080ti. Curious how close the bleeding edge my fellow simmers like to stay. How do your wives handle the PC purchases? :-)

Hello there, Firstly I’d like to apologize in advance, as I’m not entirely sure which forum this should go in. Please move it if need be. On to the topic... There are a few aircraft I’ve repainted to a custom, personal livery, and I’ve been recently interested in 3D printing the models. Does anyone know of a way to export the model and texture files to form some kind of 3D printable file? Mainly I’m looking at the Majestic Dash 8, but also perhaps the PMDG aircraft. I’m using Prepar3D v3 and v4 if that helps. Thanks in in advance for any help. Tyler Choo

JUST THREE SHORT months ago, security researcher Marcus Hutchins entered the pantheon of hacker heroes for stopping the WannaCry ransomware attack that ripped through the internet and paralyzed hundreds of thousands of computers. Now he's been arrested and charged with involvement in another mass hacking scheme—this time on the wrong side. https://www.wired.com/story/wannacry-malwaretech-arrest/

I noticed late yesterday that the prop on the DA40 is turning backwards! To verify: parked, locked spot view looking to the front of the aircraft. Press Ctrl-E and watch props spin backwards. Facing the front, the prop should spin anti-clockwise. Doesn't anyone actually beta test these aircraft?

I don't know if any of you know of or follow any Quora posts, but the question in the title came to my attention in this morning's email. To be honest, it is not anything I'd even thought of before, but the answers that some active and retired fighter jocks was definitely an eye opener! https://www.quora.com/What-is-it-like-to-have-diarrhea-in-the-cockpit-as-a-fighter-pilot Here is an excerpt from one of the answers given, but expand the comments for even funnier stories!

This is how it looks when lawyers control the world - they even get to rewrite history. A new product is available via the Steam Store for FSX-SE. It is the famous, venerable, timeless McDonnell-Douglas (tm) DC3. Really? I'm surprised they didn't call it a Boeing (tm) DC3 --- a bit like the Boeing 717 perhaps??? (From the Douglas DC-9 evolved the MD80-90 series, the last iteration of which became the Boeing 717. Who knows, one day we may even read about the new 797 from Amazon-Boeing?) BTW, it doesn't begin to compare with the superb, freeware DOUGLAS C47 of Manfred Jahn and team - available right here on AVSIM

Ohhh, I'm a happy man. Found her on an old harddrive a month ago. Thought she was lost. Tried to install her in Prepar3d v3.4 - despite license issues, as reported from many to be possible. Outcome was extreme bad fps despite a lot of tweaking. Not flyable. Then I installed FSX again on a SSHD I had in spare, installed the PMDG MD11 and since then I have been in the skies with this bird. Nothing else than scenaries on this harddrive. On ground at EKCH (scenary from FlyTampa) with ORBX (not vector) and Mytraffic running and fps around 45-50. In midair I'm wropping around 100 fps. What an experience. I'm a happy man. I am a fiddler. When FSW and AF2 came out they both went on my PC very quickly. I offloaded AF2 pretty quickly too not so much because I didnt like it but more because of the huge file and update download sizes that ate into my monthly download limits. FSW now has pride of place so what about my old FSX stuff? 1. My FS Global Ultimate installed manually. 2. All Newport, Bluesky and Taburet photo real sceneries installed to the FSW add ons and working after fiddling with scenery.cfg. 3. Orbyx FTX sceneries installed and working (till I uninstalled FSX and FTX Central went nuts. Orbyx stuff now uninstalled). 4. A few planes added but error messages com…

Just seen this on the news. Apparently a flying lesson with presumably an engine failure, both occupants survived but unfortunately the aircraft hit two people fatally. As ever, it's garnering some stupid comments from people on social media about what the pilots should have done in what is in reality a tragic accident. Rather strange damage to the aircraft too, presumably it hit a wing on the beach and broke a spar... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-40806376

Stuck this here in Hangar Chat because it's for P3D and FSX. Apparently they are gonna make it P3D V4 compatible at some point, but in the meantime, here's a list of the things which are fixed in the P3D V1-3/FSX version. Quite a lot of fixes and some new stuff too: New features: Autopilot re-coded for improved usability Fuel system re-coded for improved usability (refer to manual for more information) Manual PDF updated to reflect changes to software since release New ADI/HSI added Air start interlock simulated. Engines are started with external power or with cross-bleed if at least one engine is already started. Fixes: Hydraulic b…

So I was having an online conversation that drifted to this topic, and after getting a few names thrown around, it occurred to me that tastes differ quite a lot on this subject. Seemed like an interesting idea to see what you guys thought, and I will start with my top pick, Hainan Airlines with Eithad as a close second. Eithad!
