Saw that Microsoft offers Visual Studio free for independent developers like myself. I am downloading it and trying to think of new add-ons I can create. My big push is for a universal 2-d autopilot gauge, which I can pop up and set V/S, IAS, Alt, and heading easily for P3dV4. I don't like the fancy systems that come bundled with some aircraft which add steps to the process of setting up the A/P. I like having it all there in one universal gauge, haven't found a freeware one for P3dv4. If anyone knows of such a gauge I would be happy to skip the coding and use it outright. John

Not quite as much fun as buying an airplane, but I replaced my Toyota Camry with a used Chevy Malibu today. Car checked out great, the dealer was great, best car buying experience I ever had. I used carfax to hunt down the car, been using it to research over the past several weeks. Now I can drive to Socal, easier than flying, and also visit the new Aquarium they just added here in Phoenix up in Scottsdale. Planning my next vacation as a car vacation, seeing things from ground level will be a good change from my long haul flights to and from London this year. Curious what type of cars simmers prefer? I have always purchased Japanese until today, I've always boug…

Hi everyone, I'd like to create this thread in order to regroup all the ideas this community has to improve FSW so DTG devlopment team can see all our expectations on one page. Having a team listening to the Flight Sim Community for creating the perfect sim is rare so I hope this thread will be useful for all of us. In order to keep this readable, your posts can contain 2 categories: - small improvments that could be implemented rapidly - big and long-term improvments (real world weather etc...) Please dont comment or discuss too much, keep it simple and readable, give your ideas that's all. Let DTG Team judge what is worth it and what can be done or not. …

I used to be able to log in to the official Dovetail forums with a Steam account. Now it doesn't seem like an option. Is there still a way to do it? I would like to continue using my username.

Looks like Princess Juliana got a taste of her own medicine as Hurricane Irma gave her a good blast, from the reports it looks really bad http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4858858/Princess-Juliana-Airport-destroyed-Hurricane-Irma.html I hope it cleans up well and wish them the best

Can anyone comment on the camera and weather system, ease of use etc? I recently purchased ASP4/ASCA, which both have to run alongside the sim. I am now considering Chaseplane....that also has to run alongside the sim. I also have Trackir...running. I am ultimately trying to cut down on the number of programs running alongside the sim (not to mention the Flight1 GTN 750 and FS-FlightControl that I plan to get). So...it seems like OpusFSI can at least kill 3 birds with one stone, but I can't find much (review wise) on the product.

Been a few weeks now since I got my new system. It's been a (pleasurable) struggle to decide which sim to use--P3d or XP11. What I love about XP-11 is the default landclass, autogen and mesh. It looks very real, and now I tend to fly the Columbia due to its speed. I always thought that was a strong point of the sim, and the flight dynamics seem very good now. P3dV4, I love the way I can integrate photoreal scenery with their product, which I know can be done in XP-11, I prefer P3d because it has greater visibility in clear weather. It's a tough call between the sims, tend to like XP11 for GA flying now, and P3d for flights in the flight levels, plus flying my ultral…

It's been a long time since my stint as a mod here (glad those days are over, I only did a fair job and I stressed out too much). I miss Tom greatly but also have to recognize and commend the Avsim staff for keeping the site going in his memory. I weighed in heavily on posts here when deciding to purchase a new system and purchase XP11 and P3dv4. I had to make sure I would get the right system and not be disappointed with performance, which requires a lot of study in order to purchase something at a reasonable cost. But there are members here whose word I take as gospel, if they say it works, I know it will work. The forums serve a great purpose. Interested …

I used to fly the Radian Motorglider. Loved it, I'd release it at 500 feet and could easily thermal it above 1000 feet. The battery would last a half hour or so, and I loved circling it to the astonishment of the kids in the park I flew it in. Quite often the hawks in the area would circle nearby, I used them to guide me to the best thermals. I mounted a camera on it and took a couple of videos of my flights, way before the high def cameras mounted on RC aircraft and drones today. Sadly it was "Shot down" due to radio interference which I believe came out of Luke AFB five miles from where I flew it. The company that made it shipped me a new aircraft with radio free …

Assume NO FMC experience at all. Could you please recommend the very best tutorial for learning this navigation system. I have depended on the default GPS for too long, and I'm missing being able to get some great aircraft that only use the FMC programming. Stan

I'm off to Paris departing from Manchester next week. So, flying from EGCC to LFPB (leBourget) and then coming back from LFPG (Charles deGaulle) to EGCC. I'm curious to know the routing the flights will take. It'll be with Ryannair on the way out and EasyJet on the way back, so presumably a 737 and an A320. Anyone happen to know the routes they are most likely to fly for these two flights?

Please help me welcome the latest forum in the Freeware Section of AVSIM - PSXseeconTraffic. PSXseeconTraffic is an add-on for the Aerowinx PSX and any user aircraft in Prepar3D and FSX. Flying with live traffic gives you an awesome immersion. You can position your aircraft in the queue for landing or departure at your favourite airport and really see all these familiar airlines and aircraft around you. The traffic information at the TCAS in your aircraft is making the flight experience much more real; see all these heavies around you when crossing the Atlantic! If you are interested in seeing Live Traffic at your airports, visit the PSXseeconTraffic Forum in …

Hello to you all, My first post in this forum and of course, it is about problems. I wonder if anyone can help me with the following. 1. Is there a manual on how to configure controls etc. I spent a considerable amount of time trying to get FGW to recognise my Saitek yoke. Well, it recognised the yoke but not the quadrant attached to it. In the end I had to disconnect the quadrant and reconnect ... still the same so I pulled the USB plug on all my controls and re-inserted ... still the same. I then turned off and rebooted the computer and voila u... up she comes. No problems since. Strange however, in that, it initially recognised the yoke (I was able…

I for one have not gotten a single crash that I can think of. Seems this is pretty stable even in early access with all of this new technology being added.

Does anyone remember their first flight in an aircraft? Mine goes back to 1966, in a PSA Electra from Burbank to San Francisco. I still remember it clearly even though it was 51 years ago. I was glued to the window, listening to the hum of the turbines, watching things get so small. I took several flights that year, some in t-props, some in 727's, since my Dad worked in Northern California but we lived in Burbank, we would fly up to see him until we finally moved to Northern California in 1967. He worked for the Navy and was eventually stationed at Mare Island for one and a half decades, before moving to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission around 1980. I loved going t…

For those of us who love stunt flying, I can't recommend this sim enough. Ole Lange has kept the project going thru the years and has faithfully recreated roller coasters of many styles. The 3d graphics give the feeling of flight as you ride the trains over the landscape. The only downside, there are no passengers with you, you ride the train solo. Not sure why he did it that way. On the flip side the tracks are real to life. Kumba, which I have been on, matches up perfectly to the real thing. Same with Gwazi. There is a lot of third party support for the sim, a coaster builder is included with the program. I prefer the stock coasters, they are wonderfully rendere…

I read some interesting text following an article Simul had with "80 Level" (in blue below). The next major update from Simul Software for trueSKY (4.1 -> 4.2) will introduce multiple 3D layers and do away with the 2D layers. FSW Update 8 added a single 3D layer. I believe FSW update 9 added a 2D high altitude layer (seen in Fair Weather). The current release of trueSKY is limited to 1x3D and 1x2D layer. All of that changes for 4.2 which also brings us closer to real world weather capabilities. I'm expecting 4.2 to be integrated into FSW at some point, the formal release for this product is September 2017. Certainly a lot of what Dovetail want to achieve with FSW …

I recently got BM base plus vector.. given that there are issues (for some temporarily) on seeing posts in certain subforums on the other site, i figured i'd share a few screenshots of the issue i'm having.. in all fairness.. the dev is trying to help me through this, but i'm very curious why noone else has noticed this. Basically, if you have a p3d install WITHOUT ftx involved, particularly ftx global.. everything looks good. As in this shot below of pittsburgh. (here is a saved flight file you could use to try to replicate my issue if you are willing, just run that as is, full screen mode zoomed out).. As you can see above there is tons of road data an…

HI, Following a change of SSD I have had to reload all my flight simulator programs - not the easiest of tasks!! All is going reasonably well; however, when I try to reload my PMDG 737 I keep being asked for the activation code. Any ideas how to get this? Thanks, BJT

It's been a while since I've done this but I can remember flying published approaches using charts with GA. Today I wanted to fly into ENVA Trondheim using this approach: https://ais.avinor.no/no/AIP/View/17/aip/ad/enva/EN_AD_2_ENVA_5-5_en.pdf but I can't for the life of me remember how I used to do this in the past. The thing is: how the heck do I know where for instance the IAF XILDA is...? There is no VOR information so I have no clue how to find that point. Or can you only fly approaches like this with a GNS that can load approaches...? I am trying to do this with VOR only and no GPS. As I said, I did fly approaches in the past, with DME arcs and all, b…

From time to time I run Google Earth's flight sim. Except for being unable to lock my left and right views (there may be a keyboard command but I haven't found it), I enjoy flying over the photoreal scenery and the 3-d rendered buildings. I usually turn off the HUD by pressing the "H" key, makes for a better out the window view. I am stunned by the fps in Google Earth, especially over dense cities. Any other fans? For a casual sim experience it is fun, although the aircraft seem untrimmable. John Edit: I found out in a keyboard guide online that the aircraft can be trimmed by using shift+arrowup or shift+arrowdown. Took a flight and it was much more enjoy…
