I am confused whether I should use KGS or LBS. Does it depend on the airline company? For example if I fly using a US livery, such as United, Delta, American, I will configure the plane to use LBS, and every where else I will use KGS right? Such as EVA, Vietnam Airlines, Thai Airways, Korean Air, Asiana, those boeings will use KGS?

Hi, I was thinking about doing some hurricane hunting over the weekend, but I really don't know what they do on those flights. Do they just fly into the hurricane, get some readings and head home or is there a typical structure to those flights? I know it is a silly question, but I was just curious if anyone has any knowledge about those flights.

I am trying to make my flights a bit more realistic. I fly mostly 777 and 747. But before starting my flight, is there a method you guys use to determine what the most realistic parking gate is for your plane, considering the airline being used at the airports? For example if I'm flying Thai Airways 777-300, and wanted to start at RCTP, how can I find what the right gate to use? I always have problems when trying to choose a gate to start off at because I don't know what the real world uses. Is there a website somewhere that will have all this information compiled for quick reference on which gate to use?

Just walked through the metaphorical door after a 20+ hour or so round Australia trip over the last week. Did it in 9 legs in the Piper Malibu. Worst leg was Cairns to Darwin. I arrived in Darwin on fumes! Scenery not overly good but it was fun. Auto pilot got a workout too. I am so longing for full compatible Orbx Australia. I keep looking at my FSX Orbx stuff but then think .... wait for it .... Do we really want FSX with a better user interface or do we wait and see what goodies Orbx does for us.

So, shame on me for apparently not reading this well and want to let everyone else know before you buy. If you are thinking of buying the new lighting system, Black Marble from Chris Bell which is the base package and vector (their Orbx compatibility patch was just released so it should all work now) you have to pay extra for support. Yes, I spent $130 dollars on 3 products and when I asked to have access to the support forum I was told this, "support section is visible to all members who purchased support plan by default, we need to figure out how to enable this for members who don't have support in their account (3 months access), ill have our online services director …

FSW Event - Friday, August 25th, 2017 9:00 P.m. CST - Nucia To Tulleride! If you want to have FUN, join us! If not, well... you'll have fun anyway I am sure :) I hope I am allowed to do this? Or is this considered a screen shot? Trying to follow the rules but obviously I get confused easily! Me has a sneaky suspicion I did something wrong :( I hope not!

Like, this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rsjr/1439767259/ I am really enjoying the A2A b377 Stratocruiser, an looking forward for the day when PMDG releases their DC-6. One of the things I have wondered is if there are any add-ons that replicate and allow to use a sextant, or simply the observation and sky charts in FSX / LM Prepar3d (?) The night sky, at least in LM Prepar3d when above the clouds allows for great astronomical observation, and most stars / constellations appear to be correctly placed, so I wonder if anyone tried it yet, and what was used for the task?

Their 48% off sale ends today and we can buy nothing as they do not support FSW. I would have spent a heap too!

I must be missing something obvious but I am trying to fly the NDB RWY 33 approach into Fagernes, Norway. This is the chart: https://ais.avinor.no/no/AIP/View/17/aip/ad/enfg/EN_AD_2_ENFG_5-4_en.pdf The chart says DME is required and it shows various DME distances but... what frequency do I enter into the DME device...? It needs a VOR freq but I can't see any on the chart? The chart does show CH42X LL as DME but what the heck should I do with that information?

trueSKY We mentioned in last week’s livestream that we are working to bring you updates to the trueSKY technology we recently implemented in Flight Sim World, to improve your in-sim weather experience. We hoped to add some of these revisions into this week’s release, however they aren’t quite ready to go yet. Our engineers continue to work closely with Simul's team to perfect those updates, and we look forward to sharing them with you in the near future. Just read "Never Call Me A Hero" by Jack "Dusty " Kleiss. At the Battle of Midway he scored hits on Kaga,Hiryu and Mikuma. He tells of puling 6G's out of a bomb dive. I was surprised those old birds could stand that. My thoughts wondered to the guy in the back seat facing rearward. If the aircrafts roll axis went between the front and back seat would the back seat gunner not experience negative G's? If so, seems this would be much harder on your body. Not only would it pull everything in your stomach up, but think of the blood pressure in your head with the strong risk of a stroke. We owe those WW2 guys so much!

Reported today, apparently a routine inspection of one of the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Merlin engines had a problem show up and they've temporarily grounded all the aeroplanes in the flight which have Merlin engines, so that'd be the Lancaster, some Spits and Hurricanes and presumably not their Griffon-engined Spitfires or their DC-3 or other stuff they have such as the Chipmunks they use for training etc. Presumably it's nothing major since it's hard to imagine some new fault being discovered on an engine type which has been around in various forms for about 85 years lol. If I had to guess I'd say it may possibly be something to do with using more m…

On August 21st there will be a complete solar eclipse. From what I've read, I think the longest complete eclipse in the US will be somewhere in South Carolina. I was wondering if on that day and time at that simulated location would P3Dv4 simulate a total solar eclipse if the sim is using real time? As I recall, P3Dv4 is spot on with sun and moon location. Anyone have a definitive answer? If there will be a simulated eclipse, then I'm planning to be at that sim airport to see the show!!!

So I finished loading all my software (FSX and P3D v3 and v4). Super clean system runs flawlessly. Tried to load SPAD.next and what a disaster. It won't load my Saitek controllers (switch, autopilot, radio) when I run the wizard. Test connection failed. SPAD.next does not find the A2A 172 professional trainer either. So frustrated I had had to walk away. All that time to run a clean system and now this. Downloaded simconnect, and nothing. Downloaded fsuipc and nothing. What am I doing wrong? All I want to do is fly my A2A 172 trainer. Nothing else. Any suggestions on getting these silly Saitek panels to function properly? I have instrument panels coming too. If I knew tha…

Hi simmers, Has anyone tried Elite simulation (http://flyelite.com/)? Is it a viable option for today's flight sim? I got the impression that this should be an ultra realistic flight sim and I'm all for realism (flight dynamic, system simulation) rather than eye candy. There are extremely limited info about this sim online. Do you think this sim is worth looking into? Sorry for posting OT on MSFS forum, but I do not know where else to post.

In a few weeks' time I'm planning to run another screenshot exhibition in my column at Rock, Paper, Shotgun. The last one (2014) featured some amazing images... https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/06/27/the-flare-path-summer-exhibition-2014/ If anyone reading this would like to submit screenshots for possible inclusion in the exhibition please send them to me - timfstone at gmail dot com - before Sunday September 3. There are no prizes I'm afraid, but all selected shots will be credited and lovingly described in the accompanying 'catalogue'. Thanks, Tim Stone https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/tag/the-flare-path/

Being that there is no WideView option inside the sim graphics section, and that I have a wide view monitor....I decided to check out the .cfg file. Yep...there is the WideView=0, that I changed to a 1. Also, I see that there was an Affinity Mask=1, but removed that from the .cfg and replaced that with Affinity Mask=84 (for my 4 core HyperThread as on, CPU) If that screws up my next flight...I'll remove that and reinsert the original entry under the JobScheduler section. BTW, for those reading that also have FSX-SE, you can find the same WideView=0 in the .cfg file and replace the 0 with a 1. Press SAVE, and you get back the proper eye-view for your mon…

Horrible pictures coming from Barcelona. In some ways, it's a sad world we're living in. Thoughts and prayers goes to the victims and relatives... (Mods: Please feel free to move/delete this, if it's inappropriate! I didn't really know where to put this).

If anyone from DTG is reading this then the survey seems to be broken in that you can't leave a box unticked in this section which the wording suggests you ought to able to: 5. Which in-sim qualifications have you obtained in FSW? (Tick all that apply) Light Aircraft Pilot's License (LAPL) Private Pilot's License (PPL) Multi-Engine Training Certificate I have not completed any of the qualifications in Flight Sim World (Please tell us why) and just fill in the explanation in the space provided under the last line. If you try that then clicking Next at the bottom of the page sends you back to section 5 with this message: This question requires…

I just recently discovered the SkyHighSim team and their products which used to be payware but were made available as freeware. There seems to be a problem with their website though. Does anyone know anything about this, or maybe an alternative link to get their Tivat X or Belgrade sceneries. The links given on the Freeware scenery website are: http://www.skyhighsim.com/products/Belgrade-X-v2 http://www.skyhighsim.com/products/Tivat_X These links are the same as posted elsewhere on the internet but are giving a warning and even when proceeding the pages return a 404 error. If I try the home page I get a blank page with "Be1thaz0r's Ap…

Well it's probably not a big deal for some of you, but I found a nice curiosity at EGPH the other day. Sukhoi Superjet 100 95B, registration EI-FWE leased from City Jet to Brussels Airlines. Looks exactly like a cross between a regional jet and a small airbus. We have plenty Ryanair registrations here that start EI- ... not that many from other outfits ...
