Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. Started by AOB,

These forums seem to be full of old pharts like me who helped Noah build his ark and have been around since FS was wire frame. How about we have a thread for young players or new players to the hobby? They are the future just as we (well most of we anyway) believe FSW is the future. Should pay more attention to them I reckon. So lets hear it from them. What gear do they use, where do they like to fly etc.

  4. Hi Everyone, What I've been able to accomplish (with the help of Chris). This is amazingly smooth despite the fact that I'm running just about all sliders to the right with Black Marble Night Lighting and roadways.

  5. Alright ready for these mega system stat's running FSW: MacBook Air 2012 i5 4 GB RAM Intel integrated 4100 graphics 128 GB SSD Windows 10 partition! Please, please, no Apple hating :) Yes just like when I first starting flying FSX I had the lowest settings and NO GRAPHIC's for FSX for 4- 5 year's and still had fun! FSX screams now! Flight School never would work, but FSW does. Amazing it even work's at all!

  6. Just wanted to thank the users who reported the person who spammed this forum a few minutes ago. I was actually in the forum when he started and was busy banning him while he was spamming, followed up by cleaning up the mess he created. Thanks for the heads up for the users who took the time to report as it makes our jobs easier when we're not online.

    Started by Guest,

First of all: I post this in Hangar Chat on purpose because the people I am mainly addressing probably don't visit the Aerofly FS 2 subforum and I would only get responses from people who already know all this and like Aerofly FS 2. A few months ago quite a few people were still dismissing Aerofly FS 2 because it wasn't really a sim and whenever more details would be added (scenery, systems) the stellar performance would surely to drop big time and become just like FSX/P3D/XP11. In the meantime Orbx released Innsbruck and Meigs for AFS2. Specially Innsbruck offers an immense amount of detail. Turns out it doesn't hurt performance noticeably. Yes, of course you…

  11. Since I enjoy flying during dusk, dawn and night times because I really love night lighting. One thing that I miss from X-Plane, and now that BlackMarble is here, I'm seriously interested in this product. But the confusion still remains and I can't seem to get a clear answer of how this all works. BlackMarble consists of the Base, and the other 3 (BM Vector, AI traffic, Bridges) are optional. I already have Orbx Global Textures, Orbx Vector, openLC NA, EU, SA, Full Regions, Airports, etc. Now if I purchase BlackMarble, will they play nicely with my current OrbX setup? My understanding is that BlackMarble is a global night lighting replacement for the sim. So does th…

  12. Black marble is indeed most impressive, and it covers the entire world. However, is Vector really needed if a user has a decent mesh installed? By vector, do you mean that the lights follow the roads accurately uphill & down dale as they say? If it does, then would the only benefit for my immersion be the 3D bridges? Don't get me wrong by my use of the word "only" - there is an absolutely huge amount of illuminated road bridges in the world!!

When a B787 was given clearance to take off at our local airport recently, the response was "Clear takeoff 24R and be advised we have to leave our gear down for two minutes". What was the purpose of that? I assume it was some sort of routine test.

  16. Dear Flight Simmers, For the past 11 years, FSX has been our simulator platform of choice. It served us well, and we saw amazing things being done with it by 3rd party developers, offering us very complex airplane simulations, very detailed sceneries, and clever utilities that extended the simulator’s capabilities far beyond what we thought to be possible years ago. Lately we, developers, start feeling more and more restrained by the underlying platform limitations. While 4GB of maximum ram would seem adequate in 2006, when FSX was originally released, and no PC could handle the detail that consumed that amount of memory, in 2017 we have hardware far more capable, b…

  18. Could you please recommend me a flight simulator magazine? I have consulted "PC Pilot". Don't know if there are others printed or on line magazines. In addition, if you search "Computer Pilot" it seems to have stopped publishing numbers since some time ago. It's possible it has been transformed into "Flight" -a German magazine. http://web.computerpilot.com/2013/01/the-first-steps-2/ There are other free magazines as "PC Pilots", published by pcpilotsirelad.com http://www.pcpilotsireland.com/pcflight/index.htm Thanks!

  19. This will give you a general guide to how it should look, if you want to install: PWS Caribean scenery Pilot's FSX2010 Global Custom Mesh Orbx OLC Landclass NA Orbx OLC Landclass Europe You can also install the FSX/P3D A.I. 80 custom ship package, but you do that manually, by following the directions within the .zip folder for this package. Use this as a visual guide..but you will need to edit the drive letter and address of YOUR entries, for where they are situated upon your own system. All of the above software works, and will not crash FSW. [General] Title=@IDS_GENERAL_FS9WORLDSCENERY Description=@IDS_GENERAL_FS9WORLDSCENERYDESCRI…

  21. Hi Everyone, Since New York is one of the heavier hitting areas in Prepar3D I decided to use this as my testing area, if she can perform well here she can perform well anywhere. Up next I'll hit KLAX with the new light settings.

  22. Hi all, read tutorials...wanted to put the following into my FSW: But, when I run FSW, it doesn't crash, but comes up with Scenery Not Found for each of these areas.
