Need to change my desktop speakers and was wondering what would be a good pair for P3Dv4. Due to space limits I'm unable to have a Dolby 5.1 type. Thanks in advance.

When Tom was about, Avsim ran fligthsim user surveys which covered a whole host of details regarding flightsim/addon usage and user demographics. It was always interesting to see the results. Will this be done at any point in the future again?

dont know if the tittle delivers the message but here it goes ... I always see some of us talk about how much money we had spent to date trying to get our sims/Pc of choice to run smooth and also see how some refuse to stop and start from scratch again if a new developer comes out with a sim based on a new platform that wont allow backwards compatibility . again i ask how long till this mentality goes away for good and we are all willing to adapt to a new engine ??????????????? eventually i think this will happen .....

Call me weird but part of my morning ritual is to peruse the flight sim websites and forums whilst having brekkie and a java. I work my way from left to right along my Firefox bookmark toolbar reading about all the FS developments and trying to resist separating my credit card from my wallet. In fact I do this even before checking my emails or the local news website (generally too depressing or plain frivolous to start the day with). Escapism maybe? Part of this ritual would be to align the bookmarks so that the best (most newsworthy) were placed last along the toolbar. Pride of place used to be ADX. However since D'Andre has less of a hands on influence (if any now…

Haven't seen any threads here on your first solo flight. Let me start one. The year was 1956 or 57. The years elude me now. The aircraft was a Luscombe 8E on floats. A great aircraft to learn to fly in because it has a stick instead of a yoke and the instructor sat next to you. We had only been doing air work for about 30 minutes when the instructor said, "Take us in." So I entered the pattern, landed, and taxied to the dock. The instructor told me to leave the engine running. Then he got out, grabbed a strut, and pushed me out into the water. He yelled, "Give me three landings!" The knot in my stomach felt like a watermelon, I doubt I could ha…

Howdy Folks, I just came across this clip on Youtube showing a RJ trying to outrun a thunderstorm on approach. Wait and see the aircraft suddenly bank to the right at about 100 feet AGL...I got queezy just looking at it. Do you think that the crew should have aborted the approach earlier? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb-u8j9gX7I

Hello Everyone, I've just bought FSX: Steam Edition as it was on sale on Steam. I have a bit of history with the pre-steam edition version but grew tired of some game breaking issues which pushed me away from the platform for a few years 😕 Just wandering what changes have been made from the previous (non-steam version) and which bugs are still present in the software? Thanks 🙂

Never too early to get thrilled by a full motion simulator. More than a mild butt kicker! This is so cute, but also a bit of an education as to how convincing the imagination is. Kind regards, Stephen

For Christmas last year, my wife got me a voucher for a "fun flight" at our local airport, KCMI, with the Parkland College Institute of Aviation in Champaign, IL. These flights are 30 minutes with a flight instructor, but generally, the client is strictly a passenger. We did the flight last month. I told my wife and my son (my son came along for the ride) that I thought there was a small chance I would be allowed to take the controls briefly, most likely in level flight at altitude. The instructor talked to me for a few minutes as I told him about my sim flying experience (almost 20 years), and asked me what I would be comfortable doing. I told him whatever he was…

I've searched all over the 'net and can't find these if they are available. Is there anyplace you can find an airline's Trip Schedules the pilots bid on? For instance, I want to simulate the 1, 2, 3, or 4-day Trip Schedules a pilot would bid on each month for Southwest airlines. The closest thing I found is a virtual Southwest Airline site that supposedly uses the "current real world trip schedules the pilots bid on each month", but you can't get to them in the VA's Dispatch area unless you join the VA (I don't want to join a VA). Using FlightAware I can track a particular AIRPLANE Southwest uses, and the route(s) it flies over a given day (or 3 or 4 days), but th…

Hello all, sometimes I find myself wondering where I should fly from and fly to while keeping it as real as possible. Although there are options out there (fscaptain, air hauler etc), I don't always like the overhead that these require. I just found a neat feature on flightaware.com where you can select random flight. So, when I'm in the mood to keeping it as real-world as it gets, I click the option until I get a real-world flight with an aircraft I have in my virtual hangar. The option also gives you the flight plan and proposed altitude. (Now if I can find a way to find a random flight from the destination airport...) This actually gets one to explore a whole…

Well, I think it is hehe. The nose gear automatically retracts on this "Lancair Mako." At FL250 one can get 300+ KTAS! Much faster than a cirrus for about half the price. No chute though lancairmako by ryan b, on Flickr

With Korea in the news these days I thought I would post one of the stories from my Marine Corps service collection during the Korean War way back when... The Patrol Note: This was related to me by those who were actually on the patrol but I am writing it in the first person as if I was present and the last paragraph is my take on it. I had been on such patrols but they were mostly just a walk in brushy hillsides without making contact with anyone. The cease fire was on. The talks at Panmunjom were progressing and for some reason unknown to us a two week cease fire was in effect but we still had to go out on patrols. We were a few kilometers from our…

How do YouTubers make these videos with a bunch of addons and make it look super realistic without Out of Memory errors from exceeding the VAS limit? If I were to install those addons and run flights, my VAS would be going haywire!

I do a lot of commercial flying from big airports like KSFO, VHHH, VTBS, RKSI, KLAX, etc. Is there a way to find out what gates are used for which airline company and what airplane size the gate caters to? I want to be able to start my flight from a gate that resembles the real world when I do my initial flight planning. Where do you guys go to get this information?

Anyone using Simbuddy? I tried it a year or so ago and wasn't that impressed. However, I gave it another try and am glad I did. The VA function, although still in beta, is really neat. It is exactly what I have been looking for to add some purpose to flying without being too boring like most VAs. Anyone still wishing for FSPassengers to be released for P3d v4 should give it a try for sure. It takes just minutes to create your own airline and routes. Then you can either fly solo or recruit other pilots. I created a simple airline and am flying solo from a base at LOWI. Simbuddy simulates monthly overhead costs, which are realistic but quite high with me as the sol…
